Battlefield 3 lead platform was on consoles after all
Throughout the marketing and promotion of Battlefield 3, developer DICE insisted that the PC was the lead platform for Battlefield 3 development, but now that the game is out, we’ve gotten the truth: according to DICE’s Karl-Magnus Troedsson in a new interview, the lead platform for Battlefield 3 was switched to consoles in “mid developmentâ€, in order to meet the release date.
“We said originally that the PC was the lead SKU of the game, but in mid-production we switched to console as lead platform to make sure we could get all the versions done for release,â€
This explains many of the odd design decisions in the PC version, for example, the game menu and load-out layout is identical to consoles but looks too compressed and unintuitive on the PC â€" a result of it being developed for consoles and ported to the PC.
Despite what the “lead platform†was, Battlefield 3 was released on time and was well received from critics, gathering positive reviews from most publications.
Explains some of the issues we have been having with the game, EA screwed us again
Explains a lot, and why many menu functions don't work properly on the PC. I don't understand why anyone would want to play a FPS game on a console though. At least it's not a crappy port from console to PC, and has a proper gfx engine. Good old EA, never misses a chance to disappoint. Still not as bad as when M$ bought up Bungie and took Halo from a Mac exclusive to XBOX exclusive though.
The only FPS I would consider on a console is Dust514, as it is PS3 exclusive, and probably the most promising FPS concept I've seen after BF3. MW3 really needs to step up and perform some magic to compete I would say ^^
tbh im never surprised with EA these games just hope its sorted on a patch update (or not) how can a Multiplayer based fsp have no ping feature? surely thats a basic thing to have.
tbh guys all games now are port overs from consoles, consoles are where the money is
add ps3,xbox console sales vs pc sales and u will get your answer.
Consoles are always going to be the lead platform for this sort of game, that's where the money is for publishers - don't be so naive.
What is inexcusable, however, is the bug ridden mess that we keep getting landed with. Even if it's being aimed at consoles primarily, it's still developed on a PC first so it can only be corner cutting in order to meet publisher release dates that cause these problems.
It's no coincidence that the companies who effectively publish their own titles (Valve, Blizzard etc) consistently produce more stable games.
Rule of thumb #1: Always wait a few weeks, or until most of the major bugs have been fixed before buying. Let the keen early adopters do all the beta testing for you :)
I've been following the German site about this. I reckon this might have to do while people crash alot while ingame. If this is running in the background...No wonder why...
Especially with the background scans!!!!
