ouch I thought my 5 hour delay going to Germany was bad
Ouch.
I hope they satisfied the demands of EC Regulation 261/2004 - "Denied Boarding Regulations".
Free food etc .
Also, keep a note of it. When the courts have thrown out the challenge made by the airlines on compensation, you could be in line to get a few hundred quid back. Scant comfort I know when you're tired and knacked out, but may be worth it for a free w/e away somewhere.
.....and as all good toasters know, compensation buys cubits!

After using RyanAir for the first (and last) time last year, I booked flights with Thomson. They were superb. We were informed of the issue (wildcat strike in Cyprus left their planes out of place), bussed to a local hotel where we were fed and watered all day. Excellent customer service.
Good to hear!
At least you weren't asked to buy some more fuel (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-15762127) lol.
Ryanair hold the current record for my longest ever flight delay: 18 hours.
Something literally
fell off the plane while it was being readied, so they have to drive a spare part up from somewhere. Unfortunately, they brought the wrong part with them. So the poor van driver has to go all the way back, grab the correct part this time, then drive back
again. Cue several more hours of fitting said part, and checking it works. It's a miracle we took off at all.
They did put us up in a hotel for the night, but the customer service is shocking. After being informed there would be a delay, all the RyanAir staff promptly f**ked off home and we were left asking the beleaguered airport staff why the heck our plane wasn't taking off....
Needless to say, I haven't flown with them since.
