Title: Anti cheat team
Post by: KKND on November 18, 2011, 03:48:57 PM
Why dont have whe a Anti cheat team inside the Community?
With games like BF3 whe are getting new people that wanna join the Community and play BF3.
Maybe scan these peeps first before they can join.
It´s for a good case,as whe dont want that dMw name gets infect.

We use a similar system for forum access to catch spammers and bots before they do any damage. However it's quite straight forward as we have a 'go-to' resource on the web. Is there something similar for games i.e. a searchable database of player names, emails and IP addresses we can check against?

You can scan people if they have Steamid.
It scans for Ban(s),cheats, hacks ect etc.

I know not every BF3 player have a Steam account, but it wont hurt to do some research first before accepting people...
If you look at the BP bans BF3,then i think it's good to do some about it.

Is it really worth the effort?

If someone's ID is banned for cheating, then they won't be able to join any of our servers anyway (I assume we enable VAC/Punkbuster/Whatever on all our game servers) - so why would they be looking to join?

Plus we have no way of determining if they were previously banned under a different name/ID.

I'm inclined to agree with Tutonic.   Cheaters are far less likely to want to register here and become part fo the community, they will jump from server to server anonymously having their illicit fun.  I would conclude it is not worth any effort due to the number of routes available to avoid any checks we do here in dMw.   Registering on the forums does not give them our wings, so our name is not being muddied.

There is, in ProCon, a plug-in called "Meta bans" which checks players against a global banned player list. People are added to this list when banned on other servers subscribing to the service.

Maybe we could look into this?

That's a question to raise in the BF3 GA section Arithon as it relates solely to BF3 rather than the whole of dMw.

Surely it would be easy enough to check peoples stats before they are accepted i know with bc2, bf2 and bf3 there was stats websites which where it was pretty easy to tell if someone was cheating

Accepted to what?  I think we're missing the point here?

1. Someone registers on the forum - no problem whomever they are (unless we ban them for spamming) and we have no other info to go on and they wear no wings

2. The GL awards someone their wings within the game - they are already known to the community and have a record on our server, forums and TS.

The former has no use for additional checks due to what Tutonic has already said.
The latter is a BF3-specific issue and not a system that can be applied across dMw, so should be in the BF3 GA section not in this forum topic and is probably, for the same reasons, of limited use.
