Will sort something out on this note and plan to be testing all areas of the game and not just pushing it to as high a level as possible etc. Note pad on stand by next to comp etc.

Well here are my first views of the game:

Joining a server: The list is nice and easy sort of the same as the wow people are used to. Only downfall was the que time. Later on in the evening the wait time wasn't that long but still long enough to let me decide to play bf3 instead.

Information: This is one thing i really liked about the game, everything got explained with nice and good info. The ingame tips came in a little box on the right while big info in a half-sized window in the middle. The information given was good and helpfull. On the other hand i missed some info in the quests that you get. The info you get with those are very short and it felt like a sort of attack order instead of a quest. (i did a few q's so don't know if it is still the same later on)

strating your toon: This went a bit weird but maybe i was a bit hasty setting mine up but it wasn't very logical, but all the information that you needed was there although some stuff not at the correct time for my feeling...

Quests: Questing and killing was pretty sweet. The things i didn't like or where they lost me was how the quests etc. where given...  It was all chit chat all the time "yeah that is nice but not really good for an mmo" thanks to that chit chat i got lost quickly about what i had to do or missing the tips for the quest. When the npc stopped talking you got the text comming up, but that was gone in seconds or clicked away as you want to get going...  They need to improve on the "quest giving".

Vendors: Well there where loads of vendors so enough places to sell the crap you picked up during your killing. In the settings you can select an option to show all vendors/trainers etc. on your mini map.

Trainer: I found my first class trainer no problem, but i got lost finding my second one and also other people where having problems finding their trainers...  Even with a quest to go to your trainer didn't help me as the arrow on the mini map stopped at a wall...  I found the trainer a bit later but that was because i was lost and ran into it...

World: For the little bit that i have seen it was pretty good.

Someone said that they nerfed the graphics for the beta, i hope that it is true and if so then the real game would look very nice.
For the moment because this is still the beta that they did a good thing. Hoping to get some more hours tomorrow to see some more action.

Well, I for one thought that the graphics were pretty spectacular! I can almost run everything at max settings after I turned nvidia setting from full quality to full performance.
Why did you think the graphics were bad?

This is easily the best looking MMO I've seen.

My quick description for people is if Star Wars Galaxies and World of Warcraft had a baby it would look and play like this.

Loving the voice acting and quests but then I want to skip through it to the meat of the quests too.

With zero Anti aliasing, a lot of games look pretty blocky, and SW:TOR is no different, luckily anti aliasing is only disabled for the beta and will look much smoother than it does.

That depends on what resolution you run at. Running @ 1920x1080 there is no need to enable AA imo.

played the inquisitor till lvl 10 yesterday and throughly enjoyed it, gonna try out the other sith classes today, but from what i've seen it's a enjoyable and engaging mmo.
many ppl will say things like wow clone etc, but i think it has more engaging story lines and just feels good.
if they sort out the server probs (i.e. wait times) for launch i can see wow's subs dropping a fair bit, dont think it's a wow killer but in a fight it would give it a fair few knocks and bruises.lol

I am surprised by the game in a positive way. I like the story lines and the dialogue stuff. Game feels totally different than Wow, so whoever claims that would be a clone of wow had maybe a beer too much.
Saw many guys philosophing about that on "general"!
I did not have much time but the graphics, the game play, the story everything was nice and for a Star Wars fan, this game is a must.
Haven't ordered it yet but will now.

I was going to be a Sith warrior but after playing the bounty hunter a bit, hey, that char has a lot of charme too! I am better on "one-button" chars though.

Right I've played for most of the weekend but I've had to remain off teamspeak, sorry about that but I've had a friend visiting that also played the beta and it's hard answering his questions while talking on TS...

Now so far I've gotten 2 characters to level 13, a sith juggernaut and a sith assassin and a few characters that I've just been trying out.

Now the game it self is as I expected, made from bioware it's a story based and it's a very good story at that. Both inquisitor's and the warrior's story lines are interesting and full of evil choices :) I won't spoil them as I myself hate people who don't know when to shut it.

There are some things that annoy me about the game, the main thing is that I get different companion voices talking to me all the time, even though I'm alone in the area I'm in. Also the lag I've been experiencing is horrible but thats what to expect I guess.

Yoyo!

So for my feedback :)

I was abit sceptic because of the Space theme and the whole starwars thing wich i dont really like tbh.
So i came in the game with a few doubts.

I started a bounty hunter because.. well elts be honest .. Rockets > little lightsabers.
At first i dident really understand mutch and dident know how the quest givers looked like so i grinded a few lvls.. ( LOL ) but at like lvl 6 i found out what the quest givers were and started doing quests.
I liked the way the quests worked and the interactive dialog with the npc's alot.
I ofcourse choose to be a badass and kill everything and everyone :D while flirting with my companion.
After lvl 10 the game became beter and beter and beter and just could not stop playing, played till like 4 in the morning on saturday / sunday and was sad i had to go raid on sunday evening :P ( but i did ofcourse.. )

Im really looking forward to this game, im even gonna buy a new computer for it because on the piece of **** i got now i hardly able to run it at lowest settings.

I will be preordering the game and taking a few days off around the 20th of december to really get into it :)

I'm with you on the TS thing. It's quite hard to follow the dialog in game AND the chatter on TS as well. I think while leveling I will use TS for questing with others and flash points. Might be a good thing to have a TS channel where you can sit if you are questing, where there is no talking, but lets people jump in and give you a yell if they need you for someting. At least while leveling, when you do a fair bit of questing.

I also had the companion voice bug thing. I kept getting comments on voice AND in chat from companions I don't even have! Even when I was completely alone in an area!

I start my vacation from the 19th out the year ;)

And now for my judgement!

I started off with the Sith Inquisitor and chose Assassin spec. So far I've gotten to lvl 20 and worked a bit on my crew skills. I made a seperate thread for crew skills.

PvE: I knew the game would be story focused, but still it blew me away. The way every quest has it's own dialogue and different outcomes it makes the game come to life and makes for a much more interactive experience. No more get wall of text from random person, kill 1000 of x creature, click questgiver, next! WoW is now officially obsolete.

The quests themselves I found a bit too easy most of the time, but every now and then you did get one that made you think a bit before charging in. The heroic quests are also a nice touch, as they provide a challange for you and your friends. Being a big fan of group questing and instancing, I loved these. The quest dialogs also come more to life when questing in a group, as you have the group members all paritcipating in it. A nice touch I thought.

As for how the Assassin plays in PvE, I would say it is one of the stronger solo classes, but far from the strongest. You have the advantage of moving around freely with stealth and picking your targets. As with many of the other classes it is weak without it's companion and solo against groups of mobs.

PvP: I didn't get the chance to play this as much, but I got a general feel for it. Coming from WoW I found the scenarios familiar, and likewise the combat. If you were one of those that didn't like meeting a rogue in WoW pvp, you will really not like running into an Assassin ;) I get to defend objectives while hidden and choose my battles. I know it is still early, so I will assume some of the reason I was able to take down others with little difficulty 1on1 was lack of experience. My only concern is that the assassin has difficulty catching up to the ranged classes if they first manage to get some range on you. Still a bit early to tell how it will develop in later levels.

All in all, the game was a pleasant surprise. I just can't wait for this to go live!

Well here is what i liked and didn't like about the beta...

Most people i have to agree with as it is a very nice game and although we compare it with wow as we know that it is better then wow, only can't say it about raiding etc. as i havn't seen/done that. I think i was also one of the very few that didn't wanted to do a flashpoint at all in the beta to save those for the real game.

The quest chains are loads of fun and put very well together, only downside that i had was the talking that you missed the little hints etc as with ts and all other stuff you couldn't hear it all. For the rest also the light and dark side options where loads of fun.
Also a nice thing was the nice bonus quests you get in the area's it is a nice extra thing to help you lvl and have some fun to do atleast for the dps classes ;)

The worlds also looked very nice and even big with loads and loads of stuff to do for someone.

My toon:  I started up a Sith Inquisitor Assasin as i said i would. I had loads of fun playing that class (lvl 17) it is the feral druid / rogue from wow. Only thing was when you pulled around 3 mobs that it was a bit hard to get them down. Also with the pet you had it was hard as you would take agro from it quickly.
But solo mob dps was pretty cool.

Crew skills: i took 2 gathering skills and 1 crafting, but i just took 3 and will choose better next time ;)  I had arch. with crafting so i could upgrade my weapons and had scaveging which wasn't really helpfull but it gave me some insight on how it works... Also with your second companion doing your proffs went nice and easy by just sending them both on missions.

Ship and Space:  I havn't really got into it as i just got my ship. But the space battle's are awesome, i know i will be spending loads of time doing those.

In short: I liked the game and although we found some bugs it was still very very good, and it was the beta afterall so i hope they fix some things (i hope also the companions bug, that you hear other people their companions even when you are alone in a zone..)

I liked it and will spend loads of time when the game goes live :D

Well, I played the game intermittently over the weekend as my internet connection allowed. This led to my biggest bug with the game. If your network connection goes down, my whole PC seems to lock up and I can't tab out. Although this could be because I was running in full screen and not windowed mode.

Anyway, my goal for the weekend was to play Juggernaut and Assassin and work out which I liked the best. I started off with the Jugg and found myself powering through the content without any major hickups or problem. The playstyle was fine and I found that provided the jugg keeps moving at steady pace there are no rage issues. However, if rage does drop off, the damage you do is quite lackluster. I tanked throughout BT and had constant agro problems against the DPS who just hit random targets. Pugs eh?

Onto the Assassin. Constant stop, start for me and many deaths. I found that because I knew the missions in the starting zone and the game more, I powered through a lot faster. But then I hit two massive walls. Blood Legacy and The Map quests, both very hard compared to the jugg. Probably a light vs medium armor thing, but I finally got through them with the help of stim packs and med kits. I also tanked throughout BT and had little agro problems, aside from when the marauder just charged blindly in as I have no charge move. The other issue that I had is that although I was Assassin tank, I kept wanting to do force lightning omg cool effect moves.

Which class will I play at launch? Well, probably the Jug as he fits in with my playstyle better I think. Although the Assassin stealth is kinda cool and I will probably level one as an alt.

Oh yeah, anyone running Intel IGP graphics needs the 11 oct driver or later. There's still a few issues, but at least the game is now playable en solo for the bit I'm doing now on my lenovo T500 work laptop. Not going to run flashpoints on it though. I even installed Windows7 in on my gaming rig just for this test where it works great. So one decision I also need to make is can I justify the cost of a Windows license as well as the game?

For me, i love this game! and yes it will replace wow for me come the new year when my game time runs out:D

Been playing a Sith warrior  - level 20 atm, and loving it. i have gone for Marauder, its fun and being able to dual wield 2 lightsabers is just pure heaven, as for crew skills i took biochem and bioanylsits, pretty much the swtor version of herbing and alc:D i love the fact that you can send your companion off to make stuff for you and you can go off questing while they are doing it.

I hope they do fix the companion bug as its really annoying running around my ship and hearing someone else's companion its making me paranoid....

but over loving the game, finding making money really easy sofar, not as bad as i thought it would be:D

on another note i like the "hearthstone" like ability but being able ti choose what point on the map you go to, and the taxi service is really handy to have.

Also tried a Sith assassin and really liking that not tried a tank or healer, and tbh dont think i will at this present time. i wonder if they are going to allow mods in game for your ui. with the UI i wish i could find a way to make it smaller than it is as i find it takes up to much of the screen. My apologys for not being on TS much but i could not hear the talk during quests.

But overall a firm 9/10 for me i am loving it and cannot wait for it to go live, thinking of cancelling my preoder and just going and picking up a copy from game/tesco etc on release as i aalready have the early access code activated on my account, but we shall see.

cheers Bell

My personal Review, well for starters Lag was NOT an issue for myself, this may be due to different service providers or the server i chose which had either instant log in or a 5 minute que, regardless aside from one large lag spike during a dungeon that sent me through the floor of the world there were no connection or desktop issues on my end.

I started out playing a bounty hunter at around 7PM on saturday evening for about 4 hours and although initially disapointed by lack of abilities (due to my own not figuring out how to access codex add icons to map etc :P ), however once aquiring gadgets and abilties such as flamethrower, Rocket darts etc the Bounty hunter became a barrel of fun, stunning one inidividual attaching a dart to him and destroying entire groups of NONE elites was a wonderful experience :D

At ten i had a crack at the Mercenary class (DPS/healer allowed) eventually settling upon DPS (although judging by the healing abilties i aquired for myself healing as a bounty hunter would be fun due to being able to DPS during to improve some abilities :D :D :D ) With two blasters your DPS output is really increase (and the animations are damned awsome :D) so for alot of fun Bounty Hunter I do definatly declare.

I attempted a sith warrior briefly however its obvious similarity to Vladic (I STAB YOU!!!) my warrior was slightly off putting due to having played melee roles exclusivly for around 5 years, however i got to around level 8 and still found them to be exceptional fun so for melee lovers, warriors are up your street.

Mission wise (these arnt quests :P ) I found them to be exceptionally enjoyable especially the class specific story that is told around you, the fact that your choices affect your future although im assuming this doesnt kick in till later, made me actually think of my choices plus the voice acting added to the immersion and depth you actually felt, as lets face it in WoW you just didnt care what you killed, where as having a child beg you not to kill his father in his own voice with tears was amazing (I still shot him :D )

Star wars wise, the game covers all the bases, epic dialogue, star wars feel, weaponry and tactics are believable for the universe and as a previous SWG player who saw his game get raped by the corporate butchers known as SOE, this is definatly a far cry from the horror that game became and is an excellent addition to the KOTOR universe :)

Loved it, it has more of an actual rpg feel than an mmo.  Loved KOTOR, loved this one more.  Was reading that a single game chapter (total of 8) has more content that a KOTOR game.

Add the modern gfx, and grouping and you have TOR.

WoW is going to be taking a massive hit to it's subscriber amounts, and it's pretty obvious since they are releasing pandas now.

Like a lot of fellow DMW members I pre-installed and logged in on Friday with a massive expectation to have my little world set alight by the wonders of Mr Lucas world. I then was disappointed within the first 5 minutes of logging in and finding only one English server and my place in the cue over 7000 and people on comms around 1500, found myself saying see this is what happens when you let EA try to do anything with a good game. Someone on comms then piped up and mentioned there were 3 other English servers available (better late than never I guess) and that he was in the cue but with a very low number, so I decided to jump ship and go try another server and my number changed from 7000+ to about 600. Needless to say ended up logging in before most of the others on TS and thought I would open up the press to talk button and treat them all to the Starwars entry music and what they would soon be enjoying. Strangely this was not taken very well and was received with much cursing and will cut you with my saber attitude.

Once in was treated the delights of picking the character that I would play first in the game and was interested to see that of the 4 races available for each class had different attributes and something that would be worth looking into in detail later. I went for a blue skinned bounty hunter (class chosen about 6 months ago) and went into the starting video which I was highly impressed with.

I ended up playing 6 classes (yes that did include 3 Jedi toons) and got all to level 5 with my highest to level 13 (I think) which was rolled on the server with everyone else following the day out Sat with the rugby. But rather go into too much detail and spoil it for everyone not part of the beta will keep my review to good and bad points of the game.

Good Points.
-   Main character quest line is different with all classes and really makes you feel part of the story but also independent to your class.
-   Character interaction was perfect and much better than wow
-   Dark/Light side at first confused me and is not always easy to work out but really is good for helping role the toon you want it to be.
-   Crew skills, lots to choose from and more in-depth than the wow professions.
-   Video quest lines are much more fun and enjoyable than having to read page after page of quests.
-   Voice over’s really helped set the ambiance of the game.
-   Music first rate and found myself humming along while doing a quest.
-   No auto attacking a target meaning you have to actually tell your character to fight and how to fight enhances the experience.
-   Lock button on the action bars and no hunting through setup for the unlock option each time.
-   Ability to enhance your weapons, armour and equipment. Personalise and change stuff so not every toon running around look the same.
-   Companion for all classes not just hunters.
-   Sending companions off to get resources rather than just follow you around all the time.
-   Companion interaction and influence. The admiration bar and how much they like you, adds to the experience of character personalisation.
-   Worlds looked very cool and in some cases beautiful. Attention to detail was excellent.
-   The Hearth Stone being set to all locations visited rather than just one helps save time.
-   Depth of information through the logs about everything you come across is vast and if can be bothered to read it all adds more information and insite to the characters, areas and point of the game.
-   Respawning when dead not from a spirit healer on the other side of the map, was able to resurrect back on the spot I died.
-   Size of the cites and cool touches to detail.
-   Lightsabers are very. very cool. But so is duel blasters.

Bad Points.

-   Map very confusing
-   Map only showing one vendor type at a time.
-   Graphics not that sharp (I am aware this was beta).
-   Line of Site had a mind on it’s own with me not being able to target and shoot something but there blaster shots going through the wall.
-   Groups & Flashpoint quest video section confusing and ended up just following others with no real idea what was going on or what I needed to do.
-   PVP not level capped into groups (getting owned by level 34 players when am level 11).
-   When taking a shuttle ride from planet to planet not being able to quite the cut seen of ship taking off. (cool the first 2 times but really annoying after this
-   After first play through can see some of the video cut scenes becoming boring.
-   While on comms had to keep taking headset off to listen and watch the video scenes. More than once did not hear what the person told me and ended up losing admiration points with my companion.
-   Flashpoints reminded me of dungeon runs in Dungeons and Dragons MMO which EA did and was a failure of a game.
-   Limit of choice in stature of creating character and on each class only being able to be limited race (might change in full game)

Overview.

On the whole I loved the game and can see it taking over from wow as the MMO I play (not running 2 monthly subscriptions at same time). The main thing I really liked was the effort put into character interaction and how you can model it to exactly how you want them to be. I always found that wow never really let you play it how you wanted to and were held back by blizzard. The only other MMO that came close to this was Lord of the Rings where it’s one massive selling point other than the fame of  the story was how you could really interact with your character and make it different to others around you. I also loved how things you did changed the out come of other things around you for the good or bad. For example how it affects you companion which can have a big effect on the gathering of materials and helpfulness they are to you when fighting an enemy.

I know some people did not get on with the video cut scenes and how long it was taking to go through the story line but I for one very much enjoyed it and made for a nice change of having to go off all the time to kill 10 of these or 20 of this and actually interact with the game. And when I did have to do a quest like that it gave me the story as to why I should do it which made the grind more bearable. I always end up levelling slower to others as like really getting everything out of the game the first time round and getting involved rather than racing to be first to the top and then going back and seeing it again and I think missing part of the fun. This I know is a personal thing and not everyone’s choice but I am so pleased that the game seems to give the same thoughts as that and encourages me to be part of it and my toon.

This is an excellent game and would recommend it to anyone and can not wait till the release date.

May the force be with you…………

Well i had not much time to play SW this weekend but i managed to get some playing time today and started up a Jedi knight and really loved it. One thing i really have to add is that i liked the republic story way more then the sith one.
I had fun on Sith side that was for sure but i got a bit amased on how the story is on the Republic is.

The only downside i found today about this beta was that the respawntimers where insane, a few times i had to wait around 5 min for a mob to respawn.....
That was the only thing i didn't like apart from the loads of server restarts etc.

They fixed alot of bugs since last beta weekend.

Quote from: Ice Hawk;339220Well i had not much time to play SW this weekend but i managed to get some playing time today and started up a Jedi knight and really loved it. One thing i really have to add is that i liked the republic story way more then the sith one.
I had fun on Sith side that was for sure but i got a bit amased on how the story is on the Republic is.

I totally agree and am still thinking about levelling on the republic side first.

I've been a huge Star Wars fan since I first watched Episode 4 and I have watched the original trilogy more times than anything else I have (back to back on a number of occasions before the kids came along).  I connect more with the story of the Jedi and can relate more to it.  I've tried to compensate by playing a light side Sith and making the choices you would expect a Jedi to make and it's just about working.

As I don't see the end game content holding me the way WoW does (no combat logs...what's that all about?!), I'm going to take my time levelling and see how it goes.
