I know I mispelled the title but it made me laugh....
RIght I've bought PES3 and hit and run and a few other bits for people for xmas, which I'll essentially borrow.
Has anyone played/know anything about the starwars or world war 2 online mmmopporog things? are they good? are they as sad as I percieve camelot and everquest to be?
I'm playing Star Wars at the mo - initially I was totally baffled by the game which put me off, but after a couple of nights shooting bunnies and wandering the streets of one city I'm really getting into it now.
After various conversations with Smilodon about games like Everquest (which I haven't played but he did) I think this has certainly got legs to it and will build a community very quickly. The options for careers and lifestyles are potentially enormous.
Warning though - the galaxy is fairly small at the mo (but growing) and there is no player-controlled space flight (to come in a later expansion - did someone scream *CASH COW* !). This, like Eve Online, ain't for the faint-hearted but if you get into it you may have to say goodbye to girlfirends, a social life, sunlight......
Steer well clear of MMORPG's. They are more or less all crap.

Cheers Smilo, I keep thinking there must be something good about them, but I can't bring myself to buy them.
B0llocks then, I'll stick to me PS2 and me 'Sadako Collection' from the LAN
Smilo's right - this is not the genre for everyone. Especially if you like your FPS. I would only buy if you're into things like Baldurs Gate, NWN, maybe Deus Ex.

quite enjoyed Dx but don't like things like dungeon seige or master or whatever it was, that isometric cr4p. just like the idea of completely interactive stuff. Guess I don't have the patience.
fancy a realtime huge battlefield 1942 across whole euro theater....oh well
Against all my better judgement and with NO NO NO screaming in my ears I have bought Galaxies.
I intent to be a young female stunningly beautiful Bio Engineer or a fat aging drunk droid repairer. I have yet to decide ?
Stay true to life Smilo... :P ;)
Oo oo oo - smilo is joining me :) Together we can go adventuring on the moons of Yavin 4, blasting rebel fools and Smilo can specialise in dancing and cooking to sooth my battle scars when I return to camp at night. I can also have a sideline in dress-making - no reason I just fancy it, ok
The fun we're gonna have matey - I'm overcome with joy :) :) :)
Dear Forum Viewer - Please stay tuned for our first big fall-out. It can't be far away.....
So this game is a real time online world?
I did the old bald fat engineer but all anyone wanted me to do was hunt for Ore with my Ore Hunting tool.
So I became a young female, red head green eyes and a dancer. I got a job dancing for a bloke that was promoting a new clothing range.
Sadly I couldn't seem to complete the mission. Then some bloke came up and said I had a nice TANGO
Actually it's hysterical being a novice dancer as I keep falling over all the time.
Seriously I'm going to combine entertainment with scouting and machanics. I'll be able to join a gang and build camps, fix their equipment and sing jolly songs round the campfire...

In a strange, dutch sort of way, we know exactly what you mean Duvel :)
TL.
There is a certain basic quality to the early missions smilo - I myself am only just powerful enough now to start hunting weak monster lairs on my own. Before this I had to group up with other peeps. Then again this is probably fair - you're supposed to be a bit of a noob when you enter the world and simply can't take on more dangerous / complex stuff. I've been playing for probably 15-20 hours now and am starting to get to grips with things. I made my first fishing rod last night and caught a stripy fish, but you should have seen the size of the one that got away!!! Then I tried to fix my blaster, but I didn't have enough talent to put it back together (Doh) so it fell to pieces :(
Scout is def a way to go - ignore brawler professions and get a bit of marksman training. You will need to use a blaster at some point. Also mastery of dancing and crafting will take you a long way and make you useful to gangs of more battle-orientated players as you will compliment them nicely. Dancers and musicians heal wounds and reduce fatigue.
The server I'm on seems to be pretty busy all the time, and it has a population marked as low (other have med and high pops) so it's fair to believe the reports from the US which state this is the most popular MMORPG ever created! I for one am loving it :dribble:
I'm playing an 'MMPOFPS' atm :)
Planetside: http://planetside.station.sony.com/ (http://planetside.station.sony.com/)
Think Tribes 2, minus the silly jetpacks, but about 100 times bigger :)
I was assaulting an enemy stronghold with about 200 people last night. Tracer fire everywhere, best multiplayer experience I've ever had :)
Theres a 7 day free trial atm, I strongly suggest you give it a go :)
I had a most shocking experience last night.
My new sexy female avatar was off surveying for metal ore deep in the countryside. I had a mission to find an ore deposit so this bloke I know could build a load of cheap trash compactors. Anyway there I was deep in the countryside rummaging about in a gully for a big enough ore deposit and suddenly this strange black man approached from the direction of the nearest city. Well over six feet tall, apart from a pair of white boxers he was totally naked. He started dancing about and trying to kiss me!
It was either a swift boot in the happy sacks or take his face off with a blaster. Luckily I chose the former and as he writhed around clutching his groin I realised it was none other than Chimpy
There are way too many pervos on Star Wars Galaxies. So I've binned my lady avatar and am now one of those blokes with horns on his head like Darth Maul.
Are you sure this was in the game and not some sordid fantasy you have dreamed up?
Hehe - I do like to display certain exhibitionist qualities that you would never catch me doing in Piccadilly Circus (apart from that one time on the absynthe, but the Met have filed that away now.....)
Following on from the planet side comment above, I have played this on trial and would highly recommend it. Galaxies has elements of grouping up to take on large tasks - I once found myself as a noob in a group of 10/15 imp marksmen taking on a rebel hideout. But nothing like the 200 peeps being talked about before, that just won't happen. Galaxies is more geared to small groups adventuring than full-scale combat.
Good to see you on there smilo - I personally get pretty bored with the whole surveying malarkey so it was refreshing to see someone persevering with it. I bet you were grateful to see me when I saved you from that giant gubbur
You need to get in the spirit - I was naked and dancing, you should have done likewise. Thats when we get it on by typing the "/bonk" command :D You gotta stop choosing these hot little fillies as your avatar - me gets a tad hot under the collar :dribble:

More like my worst nightmare
It's an extraordinary world though. I wandered into a cantina last night and expected to see the standard RPG three or four NPC's standing about doing nothing. However as I approached I saw about a dozen strange horse like animals standing about outside. They all had saddles and when I entered the cantina I found their riders.
There must have been at least twenty people inside, but the best of it was that they were all watching a band of about eight musicians playing away like a good'un. In front of the musicians were ten to fifteen dancers all cavorting about. The odd thing was that every one of them was a real player. They had formed into a troup of musicians and dancers and it seems they travel round the galaxy putting on shows
Both a scary and a facinating experience.
What is an NPC? I've read the reviews and everytime I get tempted, they say it is boring and repetetive.
Non playing character
I have no idea if it will have any legs on it as a game. I may get bored with it in a week or two. It's not a solo game though. The whole idea is to band together into groups and to play colaboratively.
Chimpy is right that it seems a bit of a lonely overwhelming experience to start but I'm beginning to see the idea behind it.
A fast paces shooter it is not. There are battles, some of them huge 200+ events but most of it is about careers and advancement. I may one day get to be an architect and to build houses. In fact if I stick at it I might be able to build my own city !
This might sound really obvious, but essentially living another role with all the trappings that go with it? hence RPG I s'pose. If it involves a lot of mincing about and killing time then I'll stick to me CS I think (albeit offline).
Cheers Smilo.
It is an RPG but not like Dungeons and Dragons - you need never enter combat if you dont want to. Perhaps you could be a spineless politician who hires bounty hunters to kill politicial opponents, but couldn't fire a blaster to save his life. Or you could just potter about finding materials and buildings droids - you can customise your designs when you reach a high enough level for the creative souls out there.
I see your point about the whole boring thing and RPGs, but this may have legs. You can create another character if you like to play a different life on another server, or you could just surrender your talents in one discipline to move your character into a different direction. I met a guy who did the whole combat bounty hunter thing, but got bored so became a master architect and now has an outpost mining materials which he crafts in his shop for adventurers like me. Getting bored of that - then just surrender the skills and start anew.
This is not an FPS like Dark Forces / Jedi Knight - this is you living an existence in the star wars universe, dipping in and choosing different ways to live out a character. If it replaces CS then you have a funny way of comparing games - the two share nothing apart from your time

Children playing online games lose 5 IQ pts a month, study says
A study by doctors in the small European nation of Tsrif Lirpa (?????) last week is conclusive evidence that online games such as Star Wars Galaxies, Everquest, and Asheron's Call cause an immediate and extreme loss of intelligence, grace, and good looks. Beware! If your child is stupid, clumsy, or ugly, he or she may already be playing Online Games!
QuoteA study by doctors in the small European nation of Tsrif Lirpa (?????)
Read it backwards ;)
I'm guessing the date has the same significance in Holland, as it does in Blighty...
Does this cost at all to play online? Give us some details ladies.

You buy the game for about £30.00 and it's about £8 a month after the first free month.
To describe the game would take hours though and you'd all gte bored stiff ;)
Hmm... if i cancelled the playboy subscription then i might be able to afford it.. 8)
Only if you were utterly insane ;)
Sooo... give us some tips then. ;)
Where would i find these naked people dancing and touching? (Smite's house doesnt count !)
Smite has naked people in his house?????
Some sort of tupperware party thats got out of control??
Can't think of any other reason for it?
