Ridley Scott returns to Sci-Fi:
http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/fox/prometheus/
T (http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/fox/prometheus/)hat sample from the original 'Alien' trailer still sends a shiver up my spine.
Couldn't be bothered to put quick time on and it doesn't appear to have made any more sensible formats yet :(
Same boat I'm afraid. No Quicktime here.
I've embedded a Youtube version for those of you too lazy to install Quicktime :D
Ahah, something that works and is not Apple, I'll go watch it then. Jobs should be shot, oh wait, he's already dead. Ignore me. :getmecoat:
Actually I take that Jobs comment back. It's Tut that needs shooting, that sample of the unofficial official sort of trailer is awful.

I saw that one and I thought that was a teaser trailer for the one that's on apple's site. I'm a little disappointed that it's not a real trailer.
The official trailer's been released, I've embedded it in my original post above.
It's well worth a watch....
Interesting, but whoever thought it was a good idea to put text over the screen the whole time the trailer plays should be shot. If the film has the same I'd demand my money back, so why ruin the trailer?
Whoever said it looks alright should be shot. Whoever came up with the name 'Ridley' should also be shot.
This might be worth a cinema trip, which to put in perspective is rare. The last 'adult only' cinema trip I had was Godzilla.

Which proabably explains why it was such along time ago! I've a lot of time for Mr Scott, who by my count has made only two truly dreadful films from twenty. I'll probably wait for the Blu-ray though. Not because the film isn't good enough but because cinema audiences are generally scum of the earth.

Stay away from the big chains and go for an indie cinema - I guarantee you'll have a much nicer experience.

Already? Must admit this looks damn awesome!
I've got my tickets booked for Friday the 1st at the Arthouse in Cambridge. Looking forward to this immensely.
Quote from: smilodon;340715... but because cinema audiences are generally scum of the earth.
Me and Marduk can be found there almost every week.
So thank you Smilo o.O got anymore feelings that you want to share with us? :P
Anyhow, Prometheus cinema trailer looked intriguing enough to go and see, so I'll probably will :)
I did say 'mostly scum' specifically so it would not include such decent and fine fellows as yourself and Marduk. Oh and those two girls from then last time I went to the cinema who kept dropping popcorn down their spectacular cleavages and giggling. Ahh fond memories. But apart from that definitely all scum of the earth!
Did you get there numbers by any chance? i'm interested, even if they only wanna go to twilight-ish movies :P
So I went to see Prometheus last Friday, and it's a superb movie. I don't think anyone in the world makes movies which look as good as Ridley Scott's.
Looking forward to the inevitable sequel :)
Saw it yesterday. Not an Alien prequel, more a clever story at an earlier point in Alien universe timeline.
Recommended. Top cinema. See it in 2D if you can - colour adds so much and I hate watching films in monochrome.
I was actually quite disappointed watching it. Yeah it's a good film in its own right but so many questions left unanswered.
I can't make up my mind whether I liked it or not. I think it could've been alot better & it would've been alot better if it had nothing to do with the Alien universe, the story just seemed like 3 or 4 ideas smashed together & whatever was left standing was the plot.
Looked pretty though.

I think the idea was to leave you questioning.
Why were you disappointed?
** SPOILER film plotline - don't read unless you've seen the filmShaw and David's departure in the other ship leaves the film ended, but open enough for a follow on story. The cow-sized face-hugger's hatchling from the the engineer/space jockey was most likely the 1st generation alien queen. This took place on LV226, so most likely a engineer ship visiting later was overrun and crashed on the nearby LV426 to be discovered centuries later by the Ripley & the Nostromo crew.
Why didn't earth send another ship? The destination of the fated Prometheus was "undisclosed" and Weyland was officially dead. Nobody was looking for them.

You might want to snip those spoilers out Arithon - they show up on the homepage despite the spoiler tags....
QuoteYeah it's a good film in its own right but so many questions left unanswered.
Isn't that the point? If it was a film that didn't leave anything open, it wouldn't be half as interesting in my view.
One of the greatest qualities the original 'Alien' had, is that the film didn't give you much background. It's never explained what the Alien actually
is or where it comes from. It's left up to your imagination to try and fill in the blanks, which makes it an altogether scarier creature.
Prometheus (sort of) answers some of Alien's mysteries, but it also throws a few more out there for you to think about. That's what intelligent sci-fi should be all about in my opinion, making you think :)
Must admit having seen the trailer in the cinema i'm looking forward to go and see this at some point.
Won't post on here as don't want to ruin the film for others but they said the film didn't need anyone to see the alien films. So looking it from that view "as a standalone film" - there were many things that didn't add up in my eyes during the course of the film.
I totally agree that some things should e left to the imagination but there were too many imho - maybe being pernickety and maybe was expecting too much from the film.
Overall as I said it was a good film though and worth going to see.

Great effects, great cast but disappointing story. It was definately worth seeing but i expected so much that the movie couldnt live up to, next up is Dark Knight Rising ;)

I tried spoiler tags, but the button they produced failed to work :(
This is a very, very poor movie. Seriously, do not spend any cash on seeing this. Wait until it's on free-to-view in a couple of years then congratulate yourself and saving a few quid. Personally, I feel cheated out of the movie I was expecting. No, I didn't set my expectations too high. It's Ridley Scott, it's Aliens, it's Sci-Fi. What could possibly go wrong? Well, how about the worst script/screenplay ever to make its way past a director. What was Ridley thinking as he was working with this nonsense? Why the hell didn't he stop and question the crap being played out in front of the lens?
Anyone who thinks this is a great film is an unquestioning moron. They probably read the Daily Mail and accept that everything in front of them is well-balanced, logical and factual journalism. What we are asked to believe in Prometheus is complete nonsense delivered by completely unbelievable characters. I guarantee that if you ignore my advice and pay good money to see this tripe you will, on multiple occasions, say to yourself 'that just wouldn't happen like that'.
I really don't understand the high marking on IMDB. Reading some of the reviews on there this evening has shown me that I'm not alone in my view. Here's a couple of snippets that rang my bell ...
QuotePrometheus is the story of a trillion-dollar mission to discover the origins of human life on a distant planet. Basically, this is supposed to be the greatest exploration undertaken in the history of mankind. So who do they send? A gaggle of fractious goons whose collective scientific nous is rivalled only by that of the Three Stooges.
The WHOLE MOVIE is a litany of ludicrous so-called science, schoolboy errors, and pseudo-profundity about the origin of species. Ironic really, when none of the crew would have a chance in hell in any sort of contest governed by Darwinian rules.
If you've already seen the film or are not bothered by spoilers then glance through the reviews - it's a lot more entertaining than the movie.
It's just been confirmed that there will be an extended version released on Blu-ray with an extra 20 minutes of footage, maybe an extra 2 hours & get rid of the original mishmash of a story might've been a better idea.

The reverse could be said to be true, but that would be thoughtless, opinionated, rude and insulting wouldn't it?
Quote from: OldBloke;352649I really don't understand the high marking on IMDB.
Because your opinion is just that, an opinion and the majority of people don't agree with you. Both IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes both rate the film around 74% which is good, not outstanding - a fair assessment. It's a film after all.
It didn't float your boat - fair enough.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, so I must be a moron? Charming.

I saw the film last week and enjoyed it, would not say its the greatest film ever some parts were just a tad confusing. But I got what a wanted out of it in the end a decent Sci Fi film which isnt 1. Super Heroes 2. Sequel to a comedy that's all what cinema is these days :sideways:
I think the age old quote works here -
" Opinions are like @rseholes, everyone has one "

Excellent point well made.

Not the best choice of words from me was it? My sincere apologies :blush2:
In future I'll stick to posting reviews in the style of Zok (remember him?) ... Pish :D
Nice movie, go watch it if you enjoyed Alien(s)
:roflmao:

Quote from: Zok;50942After reading many of Smilo’s and Chimpy’s reviews and commentaries on several of the new realeases to hit the cinema and dvd, and being generally impressed with the depth at which they will dissect some films to uncover another message or some sort of social comment, I thought it was time that I added my observations of some of the films I have recently watched.
I will start with “Cabin Feverâ€
It was crap.
Spoilers & maybe nsfw, can't remember if theres swearies.

Not seen this yet, but will get it on blu-ray, release date is 08 October 2012
awesome Rizzy, just LOL !
I got around to seeing this awful film last week. What a waste of time.
5/10.
Indeed, I was also pretty underwhelmed by the whole thing. There were some things to like about the film, especially the visuals as Ridley Scott has a wonderful style when he makes SciFi stuff. But there were huge problems with the plot and characters. Without wishing to spoil anything some of the crew members came across as complete idiots rather than dedicated and highly skilled scientists. Some of them were clearly unhinged before they even started the mission and would never have been passed as mentally competent to be on the crew. This was confirmed when we watched their 'what's that noise in the cellar? I'm going to investigate armed only with this spoon and a malfunctioning torch." moments, of which there were far too many.
I think this is a case of a very poor script being well directed. Sadly as the film is largely plot and character driven it falls over hard. Even the action stuff does't really work. I know it was never the films intention to be an Alien prequel, but it did just feel like an Alien film without the Aliens.
Agreed it wasnt the best movie the DoP had some amazing shot, that opening panning shot is breathtaking
