Arma 3 is more or less a done deal, unless it proves to be a compete donkey. I believe Toby has already stated that it will become the natural successor to Arma 2 ? I has been suggested that map making will be much easier in Arma 3, so we should be able to create more Benny/Liberator like mappy masterpieces.

Other than that Syndicate brings back some of my best gaming memories, but clearly the new game will bear little resemblance to the original. Here's hoping eh.

Looking forward to CSGO & hoping that it sparks a CS revival.
The other one that I may consider is Planetside2, the original was good fun just a shame my connection wasn't up to it:(

As you would expect, I fancy a bit of Arma, but what disappoints me (quel suprise) is the lack of invention. I don't want to play 'super FPS 23' with added 'laser shark eyes' and 'super quick buff feet' power ups. It's all toss.

If you think about the games you remember, and I know you inbreds will chirp up with quake and super-power-jump-rocket-7, it's the well made ones. CoD, Splinter Cell (apart from the **** one), Arma, CS, BF before it became some arcade game special, laser squad, sydicate.

Planning involved thinking on your feet, being reactive but having a chance. Now it's all quick reactions and best guns. Crap. MW set the benchmark for single player, the story and game were great, so they did it again. And again. The thrill is not in undressing the same person repeatedly, the thrill is when you drop the trolleys and it's the Crying Game. Where has risk and reward gone?

I look forward to Arma 3 because it will level the playing field, in the same way Arma2 did, skill is thought rather than reaction based. It's a shame we can't have a pvp arma equivalent, like, say an open world CS. I'd like that.

I'd also like to read the paper on a balcony in Majorca whilst drinking orange juice that's run down a nubile virgin's finely toned calf, but I'll settle for cup-a-soup in a council car park in Bracknell, so I'll see you in a game to share those disappointments.

Seriously? I would buy that game in a heartbeat.

Agree with you on many points though. I think it's a side-effect of games being so much more expensive for a studio to produce now, which in turn reduces the 'risk' they're willing to take. Hence the endless COD-clones.

I recommend you take a closer look at Natural Selection 2 though, it definitely stands out from the crowd.

Listen young 'un, I was playing natural selection at TG when it was released there. It's TF in disguise in an Aliens setting. It needs tactics and cohesive planning and you can't drop into a game without being god of all controls. If you miss a game your left behind in terms of ability. It then turns into who can rush the quickest. See, it should be good, but then so should Team Fortress 2. The latter should be the perfect game for us, funny, team based, cunning, taunts, etc, but it's not. "Why not?" I hear you ask, "I don't know, you ridiculous moon head!" you hear me say. I really don't know.

Whilst I'm at it, anyone want a copy of Frozen Synapse? I've got a free one, it's laser squad with a stupid plot, but it's alright. When does Spy Party come out?

Alright grandad, keep your wig on :)

I too have Frozen Synapse, it's ace. We should get together and take it in turns to shoot each others little electronic stick men.

Spy Party has been in development for an age, but it's a one-man studio so I guess he's allowed to take his time.

I got Frozen Synapse twice when I bought two copies of the same "Humble Bundle", haven't actually played it, but activated one for myself and Toby has the other.

Suppose it would be okay to have a crack at it.

So, I read your list Tightonic and was dismayed. I've now clicked the link and my interest has flickered like a candle in the wind. I don't know where to turn to, when the rain sets in.

So out of the real mans list;
That's my lot. Now clearly Batman is the best couple of games available, but even with this the second one got a little stale, it was more of an expansion. We need this years Batman - Arkham Asylum, and I don't see it.

Monaco looks absurdly fun, it's probably the game I'm looking forward to most in 2012.

There's a video on RPS somewhere of the 4 of them playing it on one machine with 4 Xbox 360 controllers plugged in. Could be a quality LAN game.

Damn, I didn't think anyone had seem me in my chaps. I guess I'll have to bring them to the next LAN now.
