Title: Something Faaaar Wrong
Post by: Milli on February 01, 2012, 11:27:09 PM
Maybe it's just me missing something.... but thought i'd log on and install the patch etc...

so all goes fine -

- Downloading Updated Tools
- Runs Optimizer???  (fair enough something new I think)

- Proceeds to D/L 15Gb's Worth of files....  okies on my line speed i'll see you next year

Had a look on forums etc - but no blue posts re: solving this

Tried the Check Files / Repair but still the same

Any ideas guys?

15GB sounds like it broke something and is re-downloading.  Following my Optimzer run this morning it downloaded just under 1.5GB (possibly a smaller replacement files for the new compacted version of WoW in your HDD).   15GB is harsh though.....

My install got messed up after 4.3.2 hit, Launcher kept saying I had to run repair-tool. But repair-tool found nothing wrong. I decided to run a new installation over the old one to if that would fix it. It did, but that was a 9 gb download.

The optimizer is there to free up hard-disk space, but the big download might be because some files are corrupted/deleted/damgaged or something down that lane. You can probably still play while this is downloading? Is the Available/Playable marker on red, yellow or green (if it is visible)?

What it's doing is basically combining all the .mpq packages for each patch and expansion (which contain all the models, textures, sounds etc.) into more singular ones, which means a smaller install size. I'm guessing it couldn't find some of those original files and decided to redownload? :-)
