We had 14 people available for tonight's match.
I scraped together a team of five with minutes to go.
This aint good enough. I've spent *hours* in front of this PC today for your benefit. Where were you when you were needed?
I was sitting on the dMw server from 8.40pm waiting for a match call. When that fell over I was sitting on Blueballs server waiting for a match call.
I asked about the match, but no one was totally sure if it was on. Then JAS said he was of to irc and then........... a big fat nothing.....
When I finally gave up and left the servers altogether I discivered a Steam PM from JB asking me to jump on irc (about 21.10). I did and no one was home.
As far as I was aware anyone marked as avaliable and on the dMw servers fifteen minutes before match start was indicating they were avaliable.
So I'm nearly as annoyed as you I guess
I was there at 9:44 in irc and was told by jb if i wanted his place as he was a zombie. I asked him a few times if he was alright with this and he said yes then you came in and said no. So i left i was willing to play and available.
Match started at 9pm though, no point rolling up at 9:44 :narnar:
at the time, when the match was within 10 mins of starting there were very few people showed up in irc.........the team was picked from there because we were having a few probs with the servers .............if ya can't get on mh or homer pleeeease try irc .......we really had to put together a team at the very last minute !!!
:(
You really should assume the worst and take it that the match WAS on and if no one comes to you 15 mintes before the match starts then go to them. It takes seconds to load up irc and it's always the place to be before a game.
Well everyone knew where I was and if they were that desparate they only had to connect and ask.
I've been told over and over..don't go to irc, stay on the server and wait for the call.
Frankly I'm pissed off but I would be happy to be re-advised on the methods for making yourself avaliable for a match, both home and away. I may well have the process wrong.
i too was about on BB'S server and i was down as avaliable.
also i didnt see jb's msn message till after 9.00pm but as soon as i did i went to irc (was about 9.10ish)
but then again iam a zombie but i was here and willing to play..i should have of droped off BB'S server to check irc as this was not the hook and you wouldnt have been able to get a message to us on there
it will not happen again!

Well everyone knew where I was ...
Not me.
I do not check Blueball's server for dMw members before a match. I check dMw's servers. This I did and that's where I found Radders.
So sorry to ruin your evening.

No you weren't.
You arrived in irc at 8:56. Just after I'd finally got a team together.
JB offered his place but I asked for the team to remain.
So it's down to the dMw servers falling over all the time, and therefore it's Steams fault. :)
I would still humbly suggest that with all the problems with Steam and the fact that we had all been on Blueballs server within the last 30 to 40 minutes, it might have been worth a glance at the Steam server list to see if we were there. There were about three or four dMw players there right through till gone 9pm
Still the match got played and we won. More than that, if I had actual got the game I probably would have taken JB's place (as he is a Zombie). And that doesn't bare thinking about.

I was there at 8:44 as by the time on my machine which is correct anyway with this friends list thingy in steam its very easy to contact we are but a pm away and when u are in the game a "ping" noise goes off alerting some1 wants to talk to you.
I was updating some stuff on the website that TL had sent me. I got a MSN message from TL 21.03 asking about the match, which I must admit had fell out of my mind when I saw there were about half the clan down as available and a majority of them ghosts. I joined IRC and TL said nothing was happening there and I returned to the website updates.
Maybe we should use "Friends" and the gametiger link as a backup I case this happens again.
Sorry I wasn't there.
JB send me a PM through the buddysystem of Steam but I was to late when I answerd it.  Was playing @ CIGS I think, would have been on Meathook if it wasn't down all the time due to Steam. Soz again.
I would be wary about relying on the "friends" system. I have been monitornig lately and too frequently peopple show up as offline when they are in fact playing a game online. This may be down to the way individuals use Steam (i stopped having friends running when in game because it kept swapping windosw when I was about to shoot somebody - turning that option off made no difference, it would still swap windows at critical moments).
Maybe this has been fixed now, I'll try it this week. Do we all religiously log in to friends? How often is the friends network down? (too often) At least with IRC we know where it is and it invariably works. (
my 2p
I always thought if you were on MH or Balders then that would be fine as the call would come in should you be needed. IRC was an equally viable alternative. I agree about organisers not checking BBs server (or any other server via Steam friends network) - we shouldn't start doing that. If you wanna play be in IRC or the Hook, preferably 1/2 hour before match. I find the friends network pretty unreliable.
That said I was marked as available but lost track of time watching Oceans Eleven so I apologise. I was logged into friends but no one tried to contact me as a last desperate measure :)
As I understand it from TeaLeaf, and I DO stand to be corrected here, the procedure is for avaliable players to stay on the dMw servers rather than all pile onto irc and interupt the game on said server. A "Call to Arms" then goes out and those players picked leave the Meathook or Homer and join the match server.
It's the act of being on the dmw server rather than in Irc that indicates a player is avaliable. Only the admin/squad leader joins Irc to arrange the match.
The problem last night was that with servers dropping like flies several of us were on Blueballs server not the dMw one. Of course some as Oldie says didn't bother to put in an appearance at all.
I would say this was a one off but if someone wants to confirm the exact procedure again i don't think it would hurt.
I had to reconnect to the various dMw servers many times changing as i got dropped - but still there and the admins see me as available- it would of been nice to moan to fellow dMw'ers but i got to practice awping which i wouldn't of been able to do on our TCS servers normally. but up until the match start all dMw'ers should persevere and then make hasty retreats to there favourite servers.
Blame steam if it was'nt 4 the
servers going down every1 would of been on mh or baldric .
I was sitting on the dMw server from 8.40pm waiting for a match call. When that went down I was sitting on Blueballs server waiting for a match call or pm or message.
plus it was a ghosts match and not zombie but i still put a post up to find out wot was going on but had no replys
heres the post

Tell me if Ive got this wrong or not.
Meathook is the first point of call for match players.
IRC is the secondary option.
I have never ever seen any reference to BB,s server at all.
If the available players couldnt get onto the Meathook they should have been in IRC at a reasonable time even if it was only to leave a message that they were stilll available and to state their whereabouts.
Oldie or any other Admins/Squadleaders should not have to come looking for you.
They really do have enough on their plates allready.

This was my understanding as well!!!!!!!
that was the only reason I went into irc to find out what was happening .......all the servers were playin' up so the next logical thing to do was to go into irc .......
'nuff said !!

Well paint me happy and call me Susan I had no idea about that
Every match I've played in so far, I've been called and gone direct to the match server.
Now suitably enlightened.
So as for last night I was avaliable, reliable, ready to rock and roll but clearly stupid :)
