Title: FTL Fragment Mission
Post by: albert on February 03, 2012, 09:54:21 AM
So.... after months of collecting and then the developers taking this final mission offline for a few months, I had a go at the FTL Fragment mission today.

You know the one, where you're supposed to reap the rewards of taking down a succession of valuable enemy ships. 2 freight, 1 mining and 1 refinery to be exact. With each comes a wave of strikes, a couple of escorts, then another wave of strikes along with escorts. Either 3 or 4 waves per main ship.

I happily completed the first 2 big ships waves by being carefull, pulling back when required etc. then completed the 3rd by killing off the mining ship, then the final strike/ escot combo wave appears, 4 Elite Vipers and 2 Lvl 19 Halberds with 2000+ HP. I was toast in seconds.

200 cubits to continue, sounds like a bargain to me, so I continue and complete that wave albeit with nominal HP left. I run off and regen.

So onto the last big ship, the refinery, protected by Elite everything x 3 and it's got 5000 HP so killing it cost me 3 more regens. All 200 Cubits, or so I thought!!

:crying:No, no no... on just completing the final wave I got taken down for a 3rd time, and it offered me the chance to regen, for 22500 Cubits, I also noticed I'd dropped from 111,000 Cubits (10K I had earned on this high value mission alone) and I was about to come down to 75K Cubits. So 35K Cubits to run the mission, total waste of cubits, took me weeks to get up to over 100K Cubits given nobody is playing the game much these days. Wouldn't have tried it so freely if I'd known it was more costly to regen each time you do it.

Well and truly gutted. Yes it was a challenge, tricky, could it be done without dying, perhaps in a line if you stay at distance and have short range guns for the strikes. No way in my Liche.

I recommend if anyone gets to this mission, be over cautious, stay away from the pack if you're lower on health once you get onto the 3rd big ship and watch out for the token Elite Gungnir they throw in right at the end, it wiggles like a biatch and you can hardly get close enough to stop it sending missiles towards you. Only just took that down.

All in all, good fun but at a high cost. I suppose one has to try these things one. Next time I'll be prepared. :norty:
