Title: Mouse Stutter
Post by: Gunnzie on February 08, 2012, 09:02:45 PM
I am really trying to get BF3 running well on my PC. I seemed to have sorted out the disconnections by disabling uPnP on my router but I am still left with the problem of the mouse movement stuttering and not being smooth at all. It's not a FPS problem as I am getting 60 FPS no problem. It's not internet lag as running in a straight line is silky smooth, only mouse movement.

I have Googled this and it is a very common problem in BF3 but I have failed to find a solution.

Can anyone help?

is mouse sensitivity turned up high enough?

Yes mouse sensitivity is fine. Changing it makes no difference to stuttering.

Have you tried messing about with the graphics? & not using the presets of (low/medium/high/ultra) and setting them up yourself.

"@0805slawek I fixed most of the stuttering. When you start the game, open up Task Manager, go to Processes, and change origin.exe and bf3.exe to High Priority by right-clicking on them. "

Tried messing with the resolution, detail levels. I've tried everything. Another video showing the same problem as me.

It appears to be a very common problem and looks like I'm wasting my time trying to fix it as no-one can find one. I want to like this game. I know I would if I could at least play it. Shame but yet again it looks like PC gaming just doesn't like me :D

have you tried fresh install of game and your pc drivers?

I reinstalled all my drivers and game yesterday.

I'm getting desperate because I can see I could enjoy this on PC. The graphics are so much nicer etc. However, I'm getting close to giving up and going back to the 360 version. I keep perservering (when really I should just give up) but I just can't see me fixing this. If I Google "bf3 mouse stutter" or "bf3 mouse jitter" there are just so many people with the same problem and none of the suggestions fix it.

Thanks for your time DD but I'm going back to console. I've wasted too many evenings on this now. There is no point gaming on a platform that all I'm doing is problem solving rather than gaming. That's not much of a gaming platform :D Literally, it's time for bed and I've not played a proper game again just Googling, adjusting, testing ad infinitum.

I got a lot of suggestions from another forum but unfortunately none of them worked. The game plays really smoothly with a 360 controller but I'm getting crucified against all the mouse/keyboard players.

Oh my, I think I've fixed it.

Because I have my PC rigged up to my 40 inch TV in the livng room, I have the Windows 7 display DPI set to 150% to make things easier to read. Well this seems to cause the problem. I found a registry fix that sorts this out and gives you proper 1:1 mouse mapping when you have DPI set to 150%. Now the game plays smoothly.

Thanks for the help but far more importantly thank you for putting up with what must have seemed like ranting on my part. I hope it's possible to appreciate the frustration I was going through. I have wasted a week of lost evenings. My spare time is like gold dust these days so I don't want to spend it fixing my PC especially after a hard day at work.

Great work Gunnzie, I never realised DPI scaling could mess up your mouse like that.

PC's are complicated beasts, but if you can accept the fact that sometimes you'll need to get stuck in and figure out a problem then ultimately you'll be rewarded with a richer experience.

As for using a 360 controller, I refuse to believe it puts you at any real disadvantage. I use one, and I seem to do okay (http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/soldier/iChaosphere/stats/352125110/) :)

Maybe if you were playing against the absolute best players out there it would, but against the masses of the interwebs... nope.

Like you, I came to PC gaming from a 360, and I was just far too used to playing with a pad. Now, I don't like it any other way.
