I played the 1st & liked it alot, sign ups for beta has gone live, sites open for 48 hours only.
https://beta.guildwars2.com/
took me a few times to get onto it as I guess its getting hammered.
Done and done cheers for the hint :)
Let us know what it is like guys if you get on it :)
I decided to pre-purchase this game. I like a lot of the new ideas it brings to the table (didn't play GW1, so it's all new to me) but I am concerned it won't be as good as operations/raiding in SWTOR/WOW, but on the other hand if your guild fails to turn out it looks very easy to join others. But time will tell.
I don't know if there is enough interest in DMW to form a guild, and it seems like you can server transfer for free once a week. But it strikes me that if there's a group of us we might as well play on the same server.
i've heard a rumor that swtors going ftp by the end of the year, any 1 else heard anything?

Lol m8. SWTOR announced F2P yesterday, launching probably November. However the F2P model doesn't include operations or from what I've read allow access to it via mini transactions either. Subscriber or no operations which is one reason why I'm now actively pursuing an alternative if it causes our SWTOR guild to close.
Linky: http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?36399-SWTOR-Free-2-Play-later-this-year!
Me and my missus already have pre-purchases of digital deluxe, we'll be playing it seriously on a daily basis. We also have two rigs coming over next week and should be set-up and ready by the pre-launch.
There is also a 99.99% possibility that we'll be running a guild together.
Getting this on day 1 cannot wait to play an mmo which is changing the tables a little bit >.> should be fun playing with you guys
I have heard a lot about this game over the past few months.
As I am a not too experienced with MMO's whats the difference between this and WoW or SWOTOR? (Apart from the monthly see wavered)
DZ
List of worlds at launch (you can change your world at launch for free for a short wile until things settle down and then change your world once a week for small fee via gems)
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-worlds-of-guild-wars-2/
I'll probably be playing on Gandara to start with.
QuoteAs I am a not too experienced with MMO's whats the difference between this and WoW or SWOTOR? (Apart from the monthly see wavered)
In GW2 there is no Holy Trinity of MMO's. Tanks, healers no longer exist. Instead you're 100% self sufficient. Each class has melee, ranged and support skills although some more than others.
For example, the ranger has more ranged weapons available than say a warrior. The guardian has more support skills - however each classes self heal is more powerful than any support healing.
Abilities based off weapons, and switching mid combat. In GW2, you have an 5 attack keys in total. But as, as a thief you can start off with dual pistols and your abilities are ranged based, then swap to dual daggers and replace those 5 with melee based skills.
You don't have to talk to people to get quests, just close enough to be in shouting range.
You actively help other people to do quests in your vicinity because everyone works towards a shared goal. As such it's impossible to ninja a kill. Unsure about the loot, but I think everyone gets share.
Achievements are account bound. So for alt-a-holics like myself, you only have to do the achievement once on your main and not on your alts.
Dynamic events. This basically means a Boss will be designed around say 5 people to defeat him. But if 20 people turn up then the boss gains more health, more minions and sometimes more abilities.
Also, Dynamic events are often chained together. In GW2, a dungeon is basically an instanced chained dynamic event.
No gear progression. There is a tiny upgrade to be gained from grinding dungeon found gear from tokens, but you can also buy it with $$$ from the shop or in game money from crafters.
No grind. Well, that's not strictly true but it's account bound.
World Vs World Vs World PvP.
Loads of jumping puzzles if Mario is your thing which normally award Vistas (a cut scene of a breath-taking panoramic of where you are on the map).
Loads of mini games.
NO RAIDING.
Instead, some Dynamic Events have a designed minimum group requirement AND require tactics and planning to progress.
Remember, no tanks or healers so it would be something like "Twisted and DZ, you take care of the adds right side".
This is the only real concern for me as I *love* raiding. Either this will be the best thing since sliced bread or it will be the worst. Don't know till I try it.
Here's something else that's different.
GW1 had a total of 32 hours downtime, over 6 years. WoW and SWTOR normally get that in one month.
ArenaNET aim to match that with GW2.
That's the differences I'm interested in. There maybe a lot others, for example I've not touched on character skills as I've not researched that yet.
I've per-purchased the game and am taking part in tonight Stress Test just so I can play around.
GW2 is so far the most innovative MMO I've seen for a long while. While I continue to raid in SWTOR, I suspect I'll put more play time into GW2.
Twisted, are you sure you can change worlds for free? I thought it was via gems?
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/49312-switching-servers-at-no-cost-on-release/
QuoteWith the game just around the corner, I'm sure there are a few questions and concerns out there. For one, I know several people learned too late that simply trying to create a character on a server locks you into that server, and deleting your character won't fix that. This was very frustrating for my friends, guildmates, and allies during the first two beta weekends, but ArenaNet understands the situation.
First of all, players will be able to move servers at will for a while after release so that they can play with their friends. Since the game is launching with the ability to switch servers, it should come as no surprise that, in the event that ANet needs to open new servers, players will immediately be able to transfer servers (for free if you're coming from select crowded realms). People also have the option to "guest" on servers, allowing them to play with friends from other servers (unless you want to enter WvWvW with them, in which case, you will need to switch servers). That still doesn't fix the "Oops! I created on the wrong server and have to pay for a transfer" situation, so Mike said that ArenaNet will have a warning up after release so that new players will understand what might lock them into a server. However, people playing the beta test will notice that the warning has already been implemented!
Quote"We know that players are normally required to pay to switch servers, but the Massively interview with game designer Mike Zadorojny mentions the ability to switch servers at NO COST (for a period of time) after release ..."
Quote"Yes, unless there is a change between now and the official launch of Guild Wars 2, the information in the article that you have linked is true and correct."
I edited my other post to indicate you can change servers for free for a limited time only until things settle down.
Aha, wasn't aware of the temporary free transfers.
Thanks
Its going to be an awesome game.
Just cant wait for next weekend for the head-launch and to start playing it with ppl from GW1.
Going to play on EU realm called Whiteside Ridge.
Quote from: valdeko;356763Going to play on EU realm called Whiteside Ridge.
Is there a list of realms available already?
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-worlds-of-guild-wars-2/
I will probably start on Gandara because it seems to be a popular English speaking server.
No English guilds atm on Whiteside Ridge.
There's another stress test tonight. 7pm-11pm, open to all who pre-purchased
Thanks for the headsup.
Anyone else's updater crashing?
Mine starts downloading the patch, after 10 seconds the download speed starts dropping and then the updater crashes.
Crash also occurs when forcing update only, and the download speed zero-ing occurs when forcing repair mode.
so how was the test and the game Twyst?
The test itself went well. Nowhere near as many disconnections compared to the last time. They've fixed all the bugs I've reported.
It's a lot more like an action game combat wise which makes it more fun as you get all your key skills at low levels - you just get more powerful.
It's a wonderful world that easy to get lost in, unlike say TOR or WOW. However it's not as immersive as TOR as not all dialog is voice acted.
However due to the sharing nature of questing, looting and the rewards it's a lot more fun.
I mainly spent the test in the character creation screen, personalising my main, a female thief. As you can have proper names, I think I'll go for more of a in-setting name this time around.
I'm really looking forward to the headstart access this Saturday :)
Win a copy of GW2: http://www.containsmoderateperil.com/cmp-giveaway-win-a-copy-of-guild-wars-2-digital-edition/
OT:
Something in me grates really badly when asked to 'Like' or 'Tweet' something to get a chance of winning a product, so I simply close the web browser and don't bother. Am I alone in feeling like this?
I just detest social media (which I detest in general already) being used to build an illegitimate interest in a product. Let me try to product and decide, don't get me to publish to the world some fake positive feelings about a product that I have not played.
This is no different from writing a postcode to random childrens TV shows of the 70's (when I was a child) I used to watch or say entering a caption competition at school.
Do you detest these also, or is it just the fact it's using new age Social media, compared to old age media of TV shows and postcards?
Yeah, personally i'm not taking any social corps. seriously. I dont mind "likes" or "tweets" of some crap if it means You dont have to buy the game ^^. I wasnt planning to buy it anyway, so if i win, kewl! I can give it a try for free, if not.. whatever ;)
Quote from: Twisted;357060This is no different from writing a postcode to random childrens TV shows of the 70's (when I was a child) I used to watch or say entering a caption competition at school.

Either you've misunderstood or I have, so show me similarity please between a viral (often vaporware) marketing campaign and sending a postcard in to your favourite TV show?
I was comparing the new age of "liking" or "tweeting" to the old age of sending in postcards or a caption competition.
Basically I'm trying to state that this kind of advertising is nothing new - they get you to do an action at little or no cost to people, but with the chance to win a prize.
I agree that it's viral by nature, but then it's just as viral as saying "Hey TL I found this great new game - I like it, wanna try it?".
And if you think that's bad I've love to hear your take on Ads in Flash with SOUND. I dunno about anyone else but that's the worst of the worst in my eyes.
But regardless of your opinion, if I win then I'll donate the game to a DMW member. I'll do it by random draw by getting people to like my win post by quoting it and telling me how much they like me :D
Sending a postcard to a TV show is so far away from advertising it is untrue. It's that aspect I do not like. If they asked you to send in a postcard raving about a TV show that you have not yet seen and told you they would run adverts with your 'Like' or support with them on TV and in the national press then I would also not like sending postcards to TV shows (not that I do anyway).
Personal recommendation of a game is one thing, but this says "Are you greedy and willing to lie to get a free game". (definition of personal excludes the Like/+1/Tweet type of garbage recommendation)
/100% agreed with Flash adverts, but I block those anyway at the browser and that's a different topic
So, who's up and waiting for the servers to open?
I'm on Gandara.
I managed to reserve some names. I rolled on Gandara, which does seem to be kicking ass in WvWvW atm :)
Servers are a touch unstable in EU, slow logins and some kicks.
Yeah, can't seem to be able to login at the moment.
Who else is currently playing apart from Twisted and myself? If anyone wants to add me I'm playing as Estril.
Anyone else starting tomorrow with the official launch?
Well, I'm so far enoying the solo PVE experience more than SWTOR. The sharing everything instead of competing is working very well, as seems the dynamic events.
Yet to do any serious group stuff has that's a long way away and the DE's so far scale from 1 person upwards.
Most of the major issues are now ironed out with the exception of guild chat (very annoying) and the trading post being down (auction house, GTN, etc).
Hopefully more than myself and Gorion :)
My missus will be joining us when her pc is fixed and ready.
Hopefully we'll be getting even more. Give this game a shot lads, no monthly fees and it's by far the best mmo experience I have participated in.
And if you want eye-candy, this game is full of it.
i will try it maybe :) but definetely not in another month i'm afraid
Bought it today but need some help
Whats best Char to play?
What Proff i best can choose?
Im very new to this game so any help is welcome, read alot but still can use info.
Server?
Server: Gandara
Character: all are the best, all classes can deal damage, heal and up to a certain point soak damage (Guardian is the proper tank however). Just pick the one you prefer. The game essentially throws the "trinity" mechanics in the bin.
This game is essentially teamwork based.
As for the professions (crafting), pick two which compliment your class, (heavy vs medium vs light armour types) Then there are weapon crafting professions, one similar to "JC" and cooking which also unlocks dyes.

Cheers most sorted now only crafting skills left.
And after update game while i was playing getting booted from game and seems not to login anymore.
Afaik, the servers are down for maintenance.
Edit: Servers are up.

Second this do whe have Guild already?
And what are the user names myn is Kkdn as Kknd already was taken..
I'm currently playing this an loving it but I already have a guild, my name is KrsKhicken. You can join multiple guilds but only represent one
By any chance, has someone already grabbed a guild name as Dead Men Walking?
Nope why is their already one
Seems someone took the name as I'm receiving an error once whilst registering the name. The rest of the tries have resulted in nothing popping up.
How's about Dead Men Guilding? XD
I see You've already created it but I'll throw my proposition anyway:
Dead Men Walking on Tyria
:)
Sent from my HTC Desire Z
We wanted to keep true to the name, and unfortunately every combination of Dead Men Walking was taken or not allowed.
Deadmen still does it though, this is deadmen.co.uk after all.
Well since I thought our guild in WoW is called Dead Men Raiding (because maybe dMw was taken?) I thought it would fit if the GW2 one would be called Dead Men Guilding.
Yes, however we wanted to keep away from the "vogues" on this one.
The guild tag is still dMw, so everyone will have "Name" [dMw] on their heads.
Fair enough
Did your copy arrive @ TommyGuner?
I have this game installed now..
We're on Gandarra DZ, what's your alias?
Nah, amazon says it's dispatched but not sure when it will arrive, but my guess is that 2-3rd will be the latest.
Its full.... Not too sure what to do about that....

Play around in the overflow servers?
It seems that Gandara is full, so after the influx settles a bit; we might have to look for another server to transfer to.
I'm hoping that players move off to other servers opening slots on ours, but we'll have to see.
The reason why it's full is because Gandara is the 2nd best WvWvW server right now, with Desolation being the clear #1.
I think it's from our server group though? Don't the WvWvW groups change after a week or two?
We'll have to consider our options after this week passes, however if we make a move we'l have to do it before the free transfers end; can't expect anyone to pay gems to transfer over.
They've stopped selling the game on their site right now, until they can expand their capacity.
https://buy.guildwars2.com/en/soldout
That's something I've never seen, these guys are using their heads.
Seems they've sold over 1million (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Guild-Wars-2-Launch-Impressive,17236.html)copies already.
Also, here's an unofficial forum (http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/) it's on Reddit, but arena.net are using it instead of their own forums, which are down in order to reduce the stress on the servers.
To be honest, the rank of the best "worlds" in pvp won't be officially determined until a few weeks from now
Gandarra is currently showing as High, see if you can transfer over @ DZ
True enough, but it's always Gandara vs Desolation vs $RANDOM_WORLD
I think they change the worlds match up every day or two until it settles down, but it always seems to be us vs Desolation.
On another note, the only servers in EU not marked as full and not marked as DE/FR/SP are mainly full of other nationals who want to claim the server for "their" language. While I appreciate a lot of DMW are not native english speakers, we are an English speaking community and I for one would not appreciate a move off a very English speaking server to say an Italian one.
Twisted, we're not going to change the server to a random one. Research needs to be done beforehand, yet even if these other nationals claim that their server is Italian or whatnot; the server is still technically English. But I do get your point, and it's a good one.
If the trend of Gandara being full persists, a server move will be the smart choice as we wouldn't be able to function; not as a guild, nor as a community.
Yes, I wouldn't mind moving to a lesser highly/fully populated server as long as most of my guild can sign on and play together.
Sounds like patience is called for me thinks, let's see how it goes. We asked Gorion to set the guild up for dMw and I think we need to give the game and its population a chance to settle down before taking decisions.
Yep, patience is needed, the game is new and they are still ironing out some major issues.
Currently, we're not actively recruiting any players who aren't in the dMw community already, as the number of members in a guild are limited. Once the dust settles we'll open the doors to everyone interested in joining and who agrees with our mindset.
I've also been noticing current members not representing the guild. It is imperative that the guild is represented, first of all guild chat is only seen by representing members, and influence is awarded to the guild only if said members are representing.
Influence is the currency for guild upgrades, such as guild banks, increase in XP, Karma, money and resource harvesting including a 10% bonus magic find. It also unlocks guild insignia armour/weapons and bonuses/siege equipment in WvsWvsW battles. Essentially, the members are the guilds' lifeblood and whatever task the members compete a certain amount of influence is awarded; which is then used for upgrades and ultimately rewards representing members with game changing bonuses.
Can't wait for them to release GvG, used to love them in the original GW
Afaik, GvsG was removed and implemented as WvWvW.
However we should be getting guild houses in time.
argh WvWvW is different from GvG :(
I am on the right server now.
Sent you a guild invite.
Can also send invites to your friend/s, just pm me the character names.
Ordered my copy yesterday should be here monday :D
Managed to find the time to get my GW2 registered, our guild is on Gandara server right?
Correct
My character name is Pyre Fyre, could I get an invite to the guild? :)
Invite for me as well if you can, Seravintis
an ingame mail would be good just so i can locate a member
Apologies guys, I haven't had internet for over a week.
You'll get the invites today.
Edit: Invites sent, Press G to accept and press Represent to get access to the guild chat.
Invite please: Whitey.7809
I've just got this but i am completely new to this type of game. What would be a good class for a novice? Any other tips would be great.
Any class is good, just pick what you prefer, melee, ranged physical or arcane. If you need help with the mechanics/basics just ask.
Write your character name so I can send you an invite.
What server are you guys on? Did you move server?
I have just been trying out different professions so far deciding what to go with so it's not too late for me to start again and change server. To be honest, I haven't decided what profession to go with yet. I don't think it'll be Warrior or Guardian though as I can't see me wanting to be the tank (as I think it gets called in these games). Prefer to fight from a distance. Probably not the Elementalist either as although I like all the spell casting, etc, I die a LOT relying on other people to revive me. (fortunately there seems to be plenty of people about willing to do so). I die lot playing thief as well. In fact I haven't really found a profession I can get to grips with yet. So many different buttons for so many different abilities etc. When I started gaming all a joystick had was one fire button :D
So I suppose another question would be which is the easiest profession to play. I'm going to try Ranger out today as perhaps I'm better off having a companion to take the heat off me.
I think Elementalist is the most exciting for me but I think I'll regret it as if I am constantly dying at level 3 then I can only see it getting worse as the level gets higher and there are even more abilities/skills/other stuff to remember.
We're on Gandara, if you write your character name down we'll send you an invite.
As for the classes, I heard and read that ranger is very easy to level/solo. Beware of the elementalist, it's insanely complex and unfortunately doesn't excel at particularly anything apart from burning down fort walls in WvWvW. It's mostly support and doesn't increase in survivability/damage dealing like other classes do.
P.S there is no dedicated tank/healer/dps class.
I think I might stick it out with my Ranger although I like the thief as well and the Elementalist (although that one seems hard to use). From what I have read on these type of games, people have a main and then an alt. I'm not sure I'll end up playing it like that. I can see myself having three mains and just switching between them for the variety. I find if I play one type for too long it starts to feel a bit repetitive and I find myself swapping to another.
Anyway, my ranger is called Massteen. Only level 5 right now.
I'll send you an invite when you're on.
I'm probably going for a warrior myself once my ele hits the level cap; perhaps I'll use it after they improve the class overall.
Thanks for the invite. Just so everyone knows, during the day you may see me come and go from time to time. This is while I am working from home and taking the odd break here and there. Often interrupted by incoming phone calls. So don't take it personally if I've only been on 5 minutes and suddenly disappear. I like the fact this is the kind of game you can dip into like that.
Evenings and weekends will be different.
Time for some stupid questions. Warning: this is probably just the beginning :D
What do I do with Skill points? Is there a good and bad way of "spending" them? Is it a one time deal?
Same with Traits?
I am level 12 and so far haven't spent any skill points (I think I have 15) or Traits as I fear I might mess it up. I heard people going on about good and bad builds and assume this is what they are referring to. You're talking to someone who usually only plays things like FIFA and even on that after years all I've managed is shoot and pass :D
Right, skill points unlock skills (stuff you place from 6-10) and you will use them to craft legendaries when you hit 80. There are no good/bad way to spend them, you will earn these with level ups, skill point challenges on all maps and after you hit 80 (level cap) you will still earn skill points after every xp level. Once you spend skill points on a skill, that skill is permanently unlocked, however it shouldn't be a problem and you will get bucket loads of them.
Traits is the way which you specialise your character to a particular role or playstyle; you get a total of 70 (1 per level past 10). In order to start assigning traits, you need to buy manuals from your class vendor (total of 3 books) which let you spend 10/20/30 respectively per trait line. Trait allocation can be reset and they are also reset whenever you used the next higher manual.
Both skills points and traits are assigned via the character screen 'H'.
I don't want anyone thinking I left the guild for another. That's not the case.
The truth is for at least a dozen reasons I've decided these type of games are not for me. I gave it a decent crack but I'm not "getting it" and have lost the desire to try and "get it".
If you're not "getting it", come on TS and I'll walk you through whatever you're not getting.
The goal is simple, kill your opponent.
Honestly i don't want to get into my reasons but i don't have the desire to learn how to play it anymore. I'm happier with simpler to play games. That's as far as i am going with this as i don't want to upset anyone who enjoys it. The one thing i can say without upsetting anyone is that i already find the game too complex and it's clear the game is even more complex than i currently understand. However, my current understanding is already way above my enjoyment level. I don't want to play something this complex let alone learn any further complexity to actually be half decent at it.
It is not necessarily that I'll never put another minute into it although it won't be much as i bought it as a download. It's just that i don't see the point in being in a guild for a game i doubt i will play again much if at all.
Just in-case, did you just login? Cause your account is online.
No I've lent the account to a friend who'd come over to watch football. They have tried it out on my pc. Will they be able to install on theirs and login from their isp? I guess the id cannot be changed but email and password on the account can. If they like it they will give me some money towards it so I'm hoping to get back some of what i paid for it.
Edit: heh he asked me what dmw was as apparently one of you saw him online. Don't worry i gave him my login and left him to it. Just to check, is there anything in their terms and conditions which forbids this? I don't see the harm but i guess i better check.
As long as you transfer the email, they can.
They will need to have the email transferred for the login authentication.
Thats a shame Gunzie as its a good game.
I like the ethos of the game in that you want people to turn up and help you even while in SWOTOR I got ****ed off with people killing all of the objectives before I could. I hope this is the way MMO's of the future will be.
I am enjoying it but not much time to play so I am very low level.
Crafting is better in this than WoW and SWOTOR as you have the collections system and can deposit them from anywhere. Finding Mats is still really hard however!
Cheers,
DZ
Yep, it's built in a social oriented way, the more the merrier.
If you want a hand in levelling, ask and i'll help out. Also, gathering reagents isn't that bad; usually you get loads whilst exploring/"hearting" areas. However if you want to farm them, quality vary by zone level and different mobs drop different stuff.
Friend doesn't want this. If anyone here would like it I'll sell my account for half the price of the download.

Just saw this, are you still looking to sell your account? I liked the first one, not been sure whether to give it a go or not but I'd have a punt for half price. I'll send you a PM. :)
This is still available and just to clear up some confusion. It is the digital edition download version from guildwars2.com. It costs £49.99 and I am willing to sell mine for £25 (i.e. half price).
I'm going on holiday Sunday morning for two weeks and haven't packed yet so I'll probably be too busy to sort this out before I go. It will have to wait until I get back now.
Any takers?

PM sent.
TeaLeaf I've had to refund your PayPal payment. I logged into my GW2 account to change the email address but it wouldn't let me. After a bit of Google searching it turns out that an admin on GW forum has said the ability to do this has been disabled. I can't give you the account with my email address so I can't sell it.
Just a note that for the reason above this is no longer for sale. Damn it.
Ah well, thanks for the refund.
Sorry about that. Apparently they've disabled it due to the account hacking. They are not giving a date for when it will be reenabled.
