[h=1]Battlefield to become subscription service hints EA[/h]
http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/games/893190-battlefield-to-become-subscription-service-hints-ea (http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/games/893190-battlefield-to-become-subscription-service-hints-ea)

I see this being the end of the series as we know it if they try this. Its bad enough as it is now with so many bugs and then bringing out DLC :/

Oh crikey! this seems insane it's going to put large amounts of people especially those without methods of online payment off the Battlefield entirely. If they go through with this they ain't getting a penny off me.

I can however see a massive outcry against this from the vocal parts of the internet.

I guess it will work in a similar way to Call of Doody Elite subscription malarky

In my list of evil corporations

1. EA
2. Activision
3.Umbrella corporation
4.Aperture Science

This is a really bad idea and to be honest I don't think it will happen.

This has been taken out of context from an interview about the DLC. I wouldn't put too much faith in it.

id fear there is a bit of truth in it, they already got battlefield play4free which is financed by micro transactions and call of duty has their elite..
both options have ofc a free part, but paying gives the player an advantage in many cases...

Paying monthly for a MMORPG i understand   but paying monthly for a fps no thankyou no matter what gameplay perks i get/adventages.

i'd rather go back to Medal of honour allied assualt, bf2 and BC2 where there are people still playing it.

I Also think it's wrong going down this route espically with a game series like COD where it is so popular and get everyone to buy the maps/Elite then bring out a new version of that game series.

The reason this won't happen is the same reason the next generation of consoles won't block users from playing used games on them. If EA did this, Activision would not, and instantly everyone and their mum buys Call of Duty (although, I guess they already do), and no one buys Battlefield. No one company is going to take the first move on something like this, because its just too much of a risk if people say 'sod that, I'll just spend my £40 on CoD and be done with it'.

I've used an Xbox for years, but if Microsoft stopped me buying and playing used games on the next console, and Sony didn't, MS wouldn't get a penny from me.

Edit - what is more likely is some spin on the free to play model, with the core game free and extras and the like costing money. A bit like most games on the app store. That could work, but the developed has to find a way to make people want to pay for the extras without completely nerfing the free game. Or, like DD said, something like the CoD elite rubbish activision managed to pull on millions of saps last year.

haha nice one Duvel, I've just got my first little clone thingy last monday, and so far the "release tummy air" function is the only one that's a bit faulty :)

But as far as subrsciptions with monthly payments, I expect nothing less from all major game titles in the years to come, this actually might allready be the last year where there is games that doesn't leave you feeling at an disadvantage unless you pay up for something, BF3 is partially allready there with the map packs comming up.
