So, seems Beta went live last night in the US. Not sure about EU yet but will doubtlessly follow fast. That was pretty fast o.O
I've not got an invite yet - annual pass stuff goes in waves so it could still be some while - but once it goes live I'll be streaming some content on TorgenTV for those who are without. Let me know what you want to see and I'll try and get on it :-)

Tip, dont press any links in those mails since it can be a hoax even though it looks genuine, my tip is if you get a mail that looks fair, go to the official website (http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/) and log on to your account and check there, perhaps this will save someone from getting a virus :P

Just to get an idea, when/did you sign up for the annual pass, as they are sending them in order of when you signed up and how long your account has been active. Or if you didn't get an annual pass and were very lucky :P

Re: the Pass, I'm probably screwed. Even though I've been playing since US open beta back in 2004, I only got this particular account about a year ago xD I'll probably get it the week before MoP release.

Going off of very basic maths here but the cata beta started 3 months later than this one on the 30th June, so having a rough estimate of the game being released 3 months earlier due to that, then we can expect it anywhere around September.
Also if you are an annual pass holder and know you are getting in at some point then you might want to download the client before hand as it is 17gb is size, so you dont want to get into the beta then wait a day or two to actually play it.

Yeh but they don't immediately go from beta to live, they have 1-2 months in between so they can fix any of the last minute bugs. But as you said they never have had this many testers so the test could be over rather quickly compared to previous beta's.

Looks like a password snatcher.
I cleaned up the installer, which seemed to remove the virus leaving the file intact, but I'm not taking chances. I wouldn't go with it and wait for Blizzard's activation to get the client from their own website.

From what I can gather Sophos is the only anti virus software that picks it up as a virus so it could be a false positive, but as torgen said be careful obviously.

Sophos is rather sensitive to a lot, yes, including false positives (I experience this with cracked software a lot), but usually that's a Mal/Packer type virus. Something that says Mal/GamePSW-C.... sounds rather fishy (in more than one way).

Also all of the links on the launcher lead to real blizz sites to take that as what you will.
Also its an extremely good copy of a launcher that no one knew about until this morning and this has been available to DL since then :P
Well I'm not saying the file itself is bad, that originates from the official Bnet website. It's just copied by someone and put up on an external website so folks without a beta invite can still get the installation. Just saying that it's infected, intended or not. :-)

The only thing in that link that threw me was the edgesuite.net part and after a bit of looking around that is the domain that Blizz host there files from :) Other than that it looks legit, also you could just wait until you get the email and download it then :P
I think I'll happily wait for the official download, no point rushing into anything as you can't go anywhere with it yet.

I would do the same if i had the speed required to download 17gb reasonably fast, I just don't :P Not everyone has BT infinity/Virgin 50mb :)

I also got a beta key on Thursday. I now have a female panda. lots of emotes but no sound on them yet and they roll well. Males roll is not implemented yet.
Shame people were exploiting the brewery instance to get access to Pandaria which resulted in them removing it for now!
Looks like I'll be rolling some Pandaren alts based on those emotes on MMO-C. Gotta say they look pretty good. Female Pandaren Rogue and Male monk methinks :-)

Blizzard trolled me epically this morning. First I read the message about 300k invites gone out, then went into my mailbox, see a mail by Blizzard Entertainment......

Had issues getting this to work as have thousands of others....found a solution on blizz forum....Once you get your beta pass,if the update tool doesnt get past 60% you need to delete the battle.net folder in program files and re-run.
So.....1st glance playing with it still downloading and looks wise it is quite amazing imo. The movement is abit shabby (fat panda ass wobbling about). Took about 30 mins to do 3 quests as there are so many people crowding areas. There is 1 quest which is so simple,i did it in about 30 secs but there were about 200 panda's trying to find this item lol. Once you are out of the 1st area it gets better and the landscape is epic.Blizz have really gone to town on detail of the surroundings. Even on my crappy laptop on "good" setting it is great.
Rolled a female monk and its quite fun,works similar to rogue/feral....instead of combo points you get "chi". Works well so far. Only level 8 and tired now so will kepp updating :)
