Title: Email services, domain parking suggestions?
Post by: smilodon on March 25, 2012, 11:02:51 PM
I have two friends who run small businesses, both of whom need some e-mail services. Both have business domains for which they need email but no web hosting. Currently they both have overpriced business accounts at 1 & 1. Both have had the full experience of 1 and 1's dreadful customer services and are looking to jump ship. So they are looking for some one new to look after their domain names and provide email services. Real people on the other end of the phone who know what they are talking about if there is a problem would also be nice.

All suggestions gratefully received. :)

(Gandy not sure if you are interested in just dirt cheap email services and no hosting?)

I'd still say Gandy, I have a domain like that with him and it was best when I researched it.   Besides, you never know when the 'no hosting' might need hosting so being somewhere good is better than being with the current provider!

Email only, 10GB space for the account, 10 pop or imap accounts £18 a year. Full webmail client too.

oh, and I can look after the domains too. I don't charge anything on top of what I get charged for the renewals so depending on the TLD depends on the renewal cost!

I'm on the end of the phone most of the time, but am always reachable via email and any problems I work on until they are sorted. Thankfully I've not really had any real problems apart from the odd performance issue which you know about and was sorted with changing to the VPS hosting :)

Thanks, I will speak to my two friends but that sounds great. I'm probably ready to move over myself, but would also need an SQL database for my site.

sure, sql database is free with the basic hosting. Again, that's £18 a year :)

Great, I've spoken to my two mates and they both want to move over. One might not be ready to go for  a few weeks as he's still in a bit of a dispute with 1 and 1 Internet. What do we need to do to get the domains moved across and set up the service etc.

Cheers.

Well, I just need some contact details, email is best, then I can get the relevant info required. You can get them to email me on hosting@greenberry.co.uk

Moving the domains is as easy as changing the IPS tag and they should be able to do that in their control panel with their existing domain provider. Once the domain is moved over, I can get the email services setup straight away.

Thanks I'll let them know and get things moving. I have my photo web site and a SMF forum to deal with so I will have to sort out those first before I cancel with 1and1, but my two friends just have email so it should be sooner for them.

Thanks.
