I wish I had more time to get into this, the game looks superb. The brief foray I had was in between nappy runs a fair few years ago.

Talk to Vargen, he was one of the big Eve-heads.
I am going to try the free trial on this
My Account is currently active, tho mainly waiting for the new Inferno expansion. NEW MISSILES YAY!
If you need any advice feel free to poke me Sithvid as the learning curve is still a bit steep.
I've tried twice to get into Eve, but it's got a learning curve that makes Arma II look like a piece of cake.
The basics are easy, but to do anything even remotely interesting... that's when it gets really hard. Unless you get in with a bunch of really dedicated, organised players it's always going to be a struggle.
That said, I did still really enjoy my brief forays. The skill learning system is great, and the few PVP scrapes I did get into were fantastic fun.... until I was brutally taken apart by someone's dreadnought :(

The games has evolved a bit, for newcomers, focusing on the RPG part and going factional warfare can be a fantastic learning experience, you get to see different aspects of PVP, mining, manufaturing... without having to worry about helping your corp guard their sov in 0.0
I have setup a chat channel for us DMWers, its called Dead Men Walking
And if anyone wants a 21 day trial i can send out an invite for that, just PM me an email adress.
And its evolved alot over the few years ive been playing it, learning curve isnt as steep as it used to be and a few days old pilot can be of great use in fleet OPs.
The new expantion, wich is coming at the end of may, will make it a bit easier on new pilots aswell.
Ill make you an offer you cant refuse.
Let me invite you to the 21 day trial and IF you decide to pay the monthly fee after that ill give you 150 million ISK (in game currency). :)
http://www.eveonline.com/inferno
Is there a new patch soon worth waiting for trial after that?
yeh theres an expantion coming in about 10 days, most changes and new features are listed in that site i linked to
Tanales can I use the 14 day free trial and then your 21 free trial as well, I've heard some fantastic stories about EVE but coming from a mainly FPS/RPG background and having no previous experience with space sims or MMO's I feel as though I would be overwhelmed.
You could but you would have to make a new account for the 21 day trial i think.
And yeh i can be a bit overwhelming at first, but if you stick the the tutorials the first few hours you should be fine :)
How long before it gets going? ive got a huge backlog of games that I need to play I would rather not add to the ever climbing mountain
gets going? not shure what you mean
You can start killing NPCs/players/roids as soon as you undock from a station if you want, thats the beauty of it :D
Do you start off with a terribad ship that takes 6+ hours to get a better one or is the first ship actually fun to use
Is it a game you can dip in and out of?
Quote from: TE_owner;350833Do you start off with a terribad ship that takes 6+ hours to get a better one or is the first ship actually fun to use

You can. Unlike other MMOs, the character progression is realtime, whether you are logged in or not. So you queue up what skills you want your character to learn, and they will continue training even when you are offline. So if you are going away for a month, you put on a skill that takes say 60 days to complete ;)
You progress pretty fast through the first ship types. And the tutorial lets you see a bit of every aspect. Don't expect to get into fancy stuff right away though. Pick a goal/direction and work towards that.
I have been thinking about getting back into Eve again myself actually. I kinda miss the adrenaline rush from proper space combat :)
You get a new ship within 20 minutes of starting the game. Then it's like most MMO's, you improve your skills and earn money which lets you buy a better ship. It's all about choosing a career path i.e. miner, pirate, bounty hunter, trader etc and training the skill that support that role. The nice thing is that you train even when off line. You can stack 24 hours of training so you do need to log in once a day to stay at maximum training speed.
And if you are familiar with RPGs you can think of the ships as classes, they where all designed to do something specific, theres stealthy ones, tanky types wich can take the hits, fast ones that avoid dmg alltogether due to speed, healers and dmg dealers aswell ofc
Hell sure I'll give it a shot who plays currently?
Could you PM me please with the invite?
Hey, sorry for the late reply, been busy with D3 :P
Doesnt work like that, i need an email address from you to send it to, unless someone else has invited you allready that is :)
So what corp/alliances are people in atm?
Im in a small corp with Bastet called Inferis corp. theres about 60 members, some alts and dual/tripple accounts counted.
We are part of a larger alliance wich operates out of a C5 Wormhole, Inferis have a C3 wormhole for ourselfs. So theres plenty of PvP and ISK for everyone :)

Disbanding the deadmen corp in a few days, so might need a new place to troll, now that inferno has launched in all its prettiness :D

I used to be in FireStar, but I doubt my toons are still in there. I think my biggest issue atm would be to get my carrier out of The Veil. It's parked in a now hostile 0.0 outpost, so once I undock it I need to be gone. Think I would need to spend some time trying to sell stuff before making my exit anyways.
found a nice article about EVE

Ive just started the 14day free trial, and aside from encountering confusion on one mission which wasnt very clear, im enjoying the game immensly, so id recommend for anyone to atleast try the trial, but make sure you listen to the tutorials as my free trial friend didnt and paid the price :P

The tutorial is really important in this game. Also you should watch some youtube videos of more advanced stuff once you know what you want to do.
I reactivated my accounts today, and started a massive fire sale to get rid of all my stuff I have in hostile space. I'm stuck in a hostile outpost in 0 sec atm, and I've loaded all my most valuable ships into my carrier to be jumped out. Just hope I have enough fuel!
My carrier pilot was still in FireStar Inc. as they did not want to leave a capital ship pilot stranded. They are setting up a small op to get me safely out as soon as possible. I think I may just join them anyways, as they are quite a good bunch of people. Highly recommended if anyone wants some nullsec experience. Though I would advise newcomers to the game to spend some time in highsec learning the ropes first.
like i said earlier, gimme a PM with an email address if you want a 21 day trail, and if you subscribe ill give you a share of what i get from the buddy program.

either 30 days of subscription or a PLEX, and ill take the PLEX, sell it and give a share to the one i recruit :)
Currently just trying my hand at mining, as I like industry work, not as much as combat, but way i see it is do a bit of industry work and then focus on aquiring decent combat equipment

Get some basic income going, so you can afford playing with the big toys. Expect to lose whatever you bring into combat, always, and sometimes combat finds you ;)
currently just working my way through the tutorials etc earn some cash then decide what to do

Currently Flying a Cormarant Tech 1, Small gun ship, slow to start with but with an Overdrive and Afterburner makes up for it immensly, got 6 days left then im definatly gonna invest in at least a months play time (i start a full time job soon so may not have time :( currently still within my NPC corp, and just doing the SoE Epic arc to get expereince and some items together, Is there anyway to reduce the tax that the stations take off me for jobs? as 10% is bloody steap.
the tax is dependend on what corp your in, player corps have taxes to but then it atleast goes to the corp and doesnt vanish in thin air ^^
Well my Commarant got raped by an army of drones lol, so currently working on some training for a Caracal and gathering the components for itw hilst i do some mining to make money, lost the ship during the SoE epic arc to some damned annoying drones with a webifiyer and a warp jammer :(

That's why you have your own drones to kill them first ;)
A good site for new mission runners would be. I even use it still, since it saves me having to read the actual mission text :p

I got my shiniest toys out of harms way and safely into Providence this weekend. For those that are into mining and nullsec life, you are more than welcome to drop by. Just be sure to stay in CVA space and not AAA ;)
CVA got them self som 0.0 space again? Btw you got a gaming computer working now?
Quote from: Drazila;352095CVA got them self som 0.0 space again? Btw you got a gaming computer working now?
CVA are back in Provi. You should come join us :)
I got my rig limping on some borrowed hardware atm while I wait for new parts. Warranty service for OCZ is slooooow. But I'm spoiled, being used to NBD warranty stuff delivered at my door. Right now all I have installed is W7 and Eve.
Cormarant sadly cant use drones, left me in a bad spot when the enemies managed to close in on me, i was actually doing alright in the missions until i got swarmed and stopped by the drones, otherwise id have been fine lol, as cormarrant is fine for long range but if enemie gets close, and since it has no drones, it gets torn apart like tissue paper
if you are flying a cormorant I would most likely use a passive tank.
7x - 125mm Railguns
small shield extenders invul mod, maybe spare a slot for AB in mid.
Reactor core unit if needed else a mag. field stabilizer in low.
personally I never really liked the Destroyers and prefered missile frigates or railgun frigates for low level missions.
http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/31137-Cormorant-125mm-Railgun-Level-1-Mission-Cormorant.html
Yep, skip Destroyers. Go Kestrel -> Caracal -> Drake -> Raven -> Golem
Though if you plan on doing incursions rather than missions I would steer clear of missile boats. On that note. Anyone doing Incursions on a regular basis? I would love to give them a shot :)
Currently not in possession of a commarant, waiting on completion of my Caracal skill training then gonna get one of those, as the commarant is actually a decent ship however once at close range effectivly your screwed due to lack of drones and only light missle damage
Quote from: Vargen;352125Yep, skip Destroyers. Go Kestrel -> Caracal -> Drake -> Raven -> Golem

Quote from: kregoron;352174but they look so pwetty! i love my missile boats :P
Well, then keep your missile boats and skill for cruiser+logistics lvl5 and run Incursions in a Basilisk :)
Are you going to buy me a Nightmare so I can do them if I start my account again :P
Quote from: Drazila;352210Are you going to buy me a Nightmare so I can do them if I start my account again :P
You can't even fly one! But I guess we could have Neddy make us a couple of those. I'll buy the ships if you buy the mods! :norty:
I can fly it, my alt has 5 in caldari and amarr BS, Last skill I trained on my alt was Large energy turrets 5 I think, might still need a few more skills for T2 lasers.
Did some Incursions tonight. Got to say, I just love it! It's not super efficient income/hour, but man what a laugh and a social way to make iskies. Flying in a 40 man fleet with 10 logistics pilots is pretty damn cool. Especially with random aggro from the the rats, and some insane volley damage. I will definitely be doing more of this!
I first tried out the public VG channels, but I found that there was more activity in the HQ channels, so I jumped right into a HQ as a first timer. They were more than happy to have a Basilisk pilot with Logistics lvl5 :) Quite a nice bunch.
If you haven't tried Incursions yet in Eve, I strongly suggest you do. However, it is not something I would advice newer players to jump right into. If you are familiar with the workings of fleets and plexes, then this is a good alternative. Best of all your pimped out ships are relatively safe ;)
Take your in a PVE/PVP corp Vargen? as currently im still in my NPC corp as im currently looking for a PVE corp, currently im working towards a Drake.
Yep, there seems to be a lot of mining/industry players at the moment, but we do have quite a few PvPers as well. I'm in FireStar Inc (http://www.firestar-online.com/), which is the corp I've been in for most of my Eve time. We base out of Providence, which is 0.0 space open to anyone with neutral or better standing with CVA and friends. If you are not in a corp with good standing towards CVA, aka neutral to them, you have to pay docking fees at the Outposts. All of Providence is NRDS though, so you are free to rat, plex and do PI. There is also an intel channel to see if there are hostiles around and a ingame website to look up names of players if they are known hostiles.
The Incursions I did last night were through public Incursion channels though. You can read more about Incursions here (http://incursionguide.wordpress.com/2011/04/17/how-to-get-an-invite/).
I may be interested in joining if they are okay with a PVE/Miner joining although my focus is more on PVE at moment then mining
Well as with any other 0sec corp/alliance, members are expected to be able to help defend their space should the need arise. Other than that I see no problem with being a mining/PvE focused player.
Keep in mind though, in 0sec there are no concord police to save you ;) Still safer than low sec though
well currently im in highsec working on skills and standing (Missle skills and working towards money for Drake)
also ive no issue with helping out with defence as long as im given some PVP training before hand or idea's for a fitting as currently im using missles which ive heard are not recommended for use in PVP
In providence armor tanked turret ships are mostly used. All the corps I've been in have had some sort of PvP training and some suggested PvP fittings. To start out in PvP I would suggest training for T2 frigates. Interceptors and Assault frigates are relativly cheap and a good way to learn without loosing your whole wallet.
Setting up a basic skill plan in EveMon f.ex.
Crow (Caldari Interceptor)
1mn Microwarpdrive II
Warp Disruptor II
Stasis webifier II
Overdrive Injector System II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Austronautics Rigging (for speed rigs)
Interceptors are usefull and fun to fly in fleets. Their main goal is not damage but tackle, so weapon skills are less important. Here (http://firestar-eve.net/kb/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=39397) is an example of a loss I had recently. Btw, I did not charge at an assault frigate without backup, the Falcon pilot simply failed to assist after he told me to go for the point ;)
Autocannon Ares ftw :D. btw no room for T2 Nos or is the named better?
Vladic: I have a one man corp based out of Isinokka/Hajinen in Caldari space if you just want to get away from the corp Tax. You can also most likely have my Drake since I didn't pay anything for it :P
lol why do you just have a 1 man corp? lol surely ya be getting lonely on occasion lol and that would be awsome man, whats ure ingame name? mines Ceglar Enderas
and indeed the corp tax is rather heavy, also that i currently have to leave salvage behind simply due to loss of firepower is a pain
Me and Teni started a corp together. I moved my alt out of that corp and into Firestar. I think I know who gave you that drake Teni...
The corp was basically an alt corp for me and Varg earlier and it is to get away from the corp tax, getting a extra wallet and inventory ( that I could share with varg before he moved his character to his main corp). Also if our alliance/corp was war deced we had a safe place in high sec.
Ingame name is Breline Uvera
My alt is still CEO though! ;)
Finally my wallet crawled back up over 1bill isk, after 3 nights of Incursion running. It's great to earn money flying a logistics ship really :p

So what are everyone up to in Eve atm? The last weeks I've spent helping out CVA's alliance tournament team with training. A lot of fun and good learning to play around on the test server :) Unfortunately our team did not make it into the group stages starting this weekend. Well worth watching if you are into Eve, or space ships for that matter. Here (http://community.eveonline.com/en/tournament/) is the link for the stream :)
Ive had to quit as due to the time required to make a profit and make the game worthwhile in EVE and the timing of my new job I aint got sufficient time anymore to justify the subscription heh shame really as it is a brilliant game over all but required a rather large time investment

Ingame funds have not been an issue for me after I started doing Incursions. As long as you can fly a battlecruiser or battleship you can join an ingame channel called The Valhalla Project, and join fleets there. They run fleets around the clock and you can stay in as long as you like. The biggest sites they run take about 20 minutes to complete and pay 31 million ISK. It's a very social and fun way of making money, and I much prefer it to my nullsec options at the moment. The sites are also being run in highsec, so you get to see and use shiny stuff you wouldn't normally see. You may need to read up a bit on how to fly in a fleet and how to rely on Logistics pilots to stay alive, but I highly recommend it!
I've found this site useful for fittings and advice

Already cancelled my subscript a week back when it ran out am afraid, just aint got the time to commit to it sadly, currently its a case of get home, eat shower, bit TV sleep from my new job due to the hours.

That really sucks man. Work to live, don't live to work ;)
I had a new experience with Incursions last night also. Apparently I've been doing something right, as I out of nowhere received an invite to a closed Incursion community that only run with shinies. Was a nice change of pace for me, since I'm mostly in it for the cash. It is a smaller community, but their main focus is ISK per hour while still maintaining a fun social aspect. Since they consist of mostly veteran players with high skillpoint characters we had very little downtime, if any, between sites. Aligning out as the current site was about to finish, entering the next as the fleet landed on gate.
Also got to have a go at some site contesting. Basically two separate fleets in the same site. Only the fleet that did the most damage gets payed. This happens mostly in the smaller Incursion sites like Assaults and Vanguards, where fleets compete for the 'best' sites. Needless to say, the shiny fleet won all contests of the evening apart from 1 where the other fleet brought in extra ships just to beat us. Which kind of defeats the point of it, as they are reducing their payout by bringing more than the intended fleet size for the site.
I guess that is the fun thing about Eve. There is always something new to discover, and much of it is run by players. Lotteries, poker sites, radio channels and different communities. You can even rent your own team speak server for in-game currency.
This article was on FB earlier today, http://www.warpdriveactive.com/2012/07/11/things-mmos-can-learn-from-eve/
Many MMOs could learn a great deal from EVE and the methods of CCP and i really wish they would.
He missed one of my favorite things about Eve though. Consequences! Anything you move outside the safety of a station/outpost can and most probably will die in a fire at some point. You see major 'equipment' imbalances in PvP, because people don't tend to bring their shiny bits into a fight. A players definition of what is shiny changes a bit relative to income, but you generally only see the Officer mods on Titans, Motherships and occationally on a flagship in the tournament.
We took a small gang out for some fun last night. With only frigates we set off into enemy territory. Here's a video someone made from it :)

Right Tan!!! I have it installed and what race would you reckomend, does it matter which I chose to get to where you are etc??
Nah all that is up to you.
Just don't put to many points in charisma, it's barely used.
Skickat från min HTC One X via Tapatalk 2
Basically; if you are into the 'fluff' look at the back story of each race and pick the one you like. There are no factions, it is free for all pvp sandbox. You are also not locked to using the ship types and weapon types of the race you choose. You can train for anything and everything no matte what you choose. Only the hardcore roleplayers in the game really care about that stuff. Other than that it just comes down to character appearance.
The short version
Amarr - Mostly laser weapons with missiles/drones as secondary weapons. Primarily armor tanked
Caldari - Mostly missiles, with hybrid turrets and drones as secondary weapons. Primarily shield tanked ships
Gallente - Mostly hybrid turrets, with drones and missiles as secondary weapons. Mostly armor tanked
Minmatar - Mostly projectile weapons, with missiles and drones as secondary weapons. Mostly shield tanked, some armor tanked.
Generally Minmatar are faster/agile than the others. Most seem to prefer Minmatar ships for pvp. Gallente are a close second for me, and the race I started as; they are generally slower, but usually pack the most punch.
It doesn't matter what you choose though. You can train for whatever you want later on. I can now fly all ships from frigate to battlecruiser of all 4 races. Starting off you should stick to one race though, as it takes a loooooong time to get to where I'm at. If you start to look at pirate faction ships, they combine skills from two of the normal races and get bonuses from both :)
Must... not... start... eve.... again...
Must..... not.... start.... eve..... feck
Come to the dark side of gaming. There is no harsher game than Eve. Where the GM's laugh at you for being stupid and griefing, scamming, suicide ganking and everything is alowed. You just got to love it!

Choosing what you want to do is maybe the biggest part.
I live in .0 sec, and mainly do smallscale pvp and roaming around for fights. For income I do planetary interaction, trading and run Incursions. Incursions are like raiding sort of, and planetary interaction is kinda like a tycoon game where you set up extractors and processors to make materials and sell them.
You may want to stay in highsec early in the game though, where it is relatively safe, but there is nothing stopping a low skillpoint character from jumping straight into low/null-sec pvp. A frigate with a warpdisrupter and a microwarpdrive is all you need :)
