Title: Improve Your Rush
Post by: Dr Sadako on November 23, 2003, 10:29:19 AM
Rushing is a frequently used tactic. The idea is to take an area by force. A rush is usually called at the end of the previous round or during the freezetime of the present round. Here are some suggestions on how you can improve your rush.Good luck and rush hard!

Especially at de_dust2 you get really spawned on the left or right side of spawn.
For the rest excellent rushing tactics. Now hopefully people will read it. Lots of those things you've mentioned should be done more like the running with the knive instead of the gun.

is the forward speed with the pistol the same as with the knife?

No.

Knife is a bit faster but the advantage with running with pistol out is that you have a weapon with a greater reach than the knife.

I'm pretty sure running with grenades out is just as fast as with the knife... I don't get left behind at least!

Then you can pull the pin before you run through into the area where you intend to throw them. Actually thats a good point for grenades when you know where you want to throw it. pull the pin (press and HOLD your fire key) before you're in position and then just release when you want to throw ;) works very well on aztec and on any map where you're trying to flash an opposition rush that's going to be close!

Yeah and then the enemy jumps out and HS you, your HE exploding in the middle of your team. ;) I think we have a candidate for strykers grenading school. :)

No it is actually a good point and I use it frequently but sadly it backfires at times too.

  • Rush to the closest site. You spawn usually in groups, and sometimes nearer to one bombsite than the other. If you have a good group spawn (i.e. team is not spread out) nearer to one bombsite than the other, rush that way.

Good point. I have lost count of the number of times on Inferno I see CTs spawn on the right and rush to the left site and vice versa. All it achieves is that you hinder each other as you try to cross in the middle.

That is the best one yet, BB. It really isn't difficult on Inferno. You spawn on the right, go to the right and vice versa. Let's stop all this line dancing cr4p at spawn, use your noggin.

We often used to assign specific squads to specific roles/bombsites. i.e. players 1 and 2
on the team would guard siteA, players 3 and 4 site B and player 5 would float. Meant
that we formed good squads/pairings within the team who in theory would be the best
people for defending the particular site to which they had been assigned... This did
create problems on some maps if people were slow out of spawn, like on aztec meeting
a T double doors rush we'd get out-rushed because people would run around too far.

The good thing was that you always knew where your team were approximately and you
got used to defending a specific area, and could use your sniper(s) to pin down specific
sniper chke points every round. As I was often designated the teams sniper (as some of
you might recall ;) ) I often got assigned to a very specific point/role in some maps.

That's why we assign places on inferno but not on aztec.

More for public play than matches, but it applies nevertheless :) I see people hesitate all too often in these situations, which essentially means they end up getting killed one by one in pretty much the same spot. It's part of the backup process. One rusher might get taken out, but the 2nd gets a better chance at spotting the defender in time to take them out. As soon as you've hesitated for more than a second or two you've lost your surprise/rush advantage.

From the defenders point of view, unless your position is really good you should consider moving if there's a delay so that when the guy who hesitated come through they're firing at where you were and not where you are (applies to round-to-round positions as well, though some positions are great even when they're expected!)

Bump.

Many players both Bravo and Charlie needs to read this again. Get a buy script and move quickly out of spawn.

Thanks,
