Distractions
When team play develops it is common to try and trick the enemy. Make them believe that you are going in one direction when you are actually are going in a different direction. On de_inferno distractions are very easy to use. Attack on the roof covered bomb site side of the map (the right side from T spawn, left from CT spawn) with a smaller group. Make lots of noise and throw plenty of grenades. CT’s will most probably call for backup. The Ts wait for a few seconds before advancing towards the other bombsite with the other group (bomb included).
The downside with distractions is that if they don’t work your team could get slaughtered.
Another way to go about a distraction is to have “prepared†the enemy so that they think you are doing the same distraction as the last round(s). But what seems to be a distraction is the actual attack. Distractions are all about mind tricks and making the opponent believe that nothing is happening or everything is happening.
The smoke distraction maneuver is also very effective. On de_inferno as T, toss 3 or 4 smoke grenades to the left once you get up the ramp. Those smokes will make it impossible for the CT’s to see through and they will most probably neither advance nor regroup (they may even call for backup). Usually they just sit there and wait for the smoke to clear. While the CT’s are sitting and waiting your team has the possibility to advance towards the other site.
A very risky diversion used by T’s on de_maps are sending the entire team but the bomb carrier towards one site while the bomb carrier goes slowly and very quietly to the other site. Maybe the CT’s have swallowed the bait of a huge attack/rush and have run to back up their teammates and left the other bomb site undefended. This distraction is not recommended but frequently used.
It is therefore important to be prepared for this kind of trick. When calling for backup always make it clear whether or not you have seen the bomb carrier. If backup is called for and you have a fairly large team, try and leave one person at the other site who can tell the others if the bomb carrier sneaks up the other way. They can then try to slow down or kill the bomb carrier, or simply sit and wait for backup.
Mouse's Handy Hint #1:
Never send the bomb carrier out on his own. Give him at least one other teammate as support. You can move much more efficiently/effectively as a pair, making sure routes are clear, &c.
Another good trick that I myself have used to great effect on more than one occasion -- If you're left one on one and you have the bomb, check how much time you have left, if you have a lot of time left make a dash via shortest route to the other bomb site, quite often you can catch the other guy out and get the plant, then you just need to stay outta the way and defend the bomb.
Sometimes it's even a good idea to use a double bluff, eg make a lot of noise leaving original target site, stop half way between sites then double back to original site, often the remaining CT will go straight to other bomb site, leaving orginal site clear. Stealth is the name of the game with this tactic though.
distractions work great as long as the bomb man is quiet and is not spotted..v important
The only problem with masses of smoke is that you risk becoming disorientated and wandering directly into their line of fire.
Its not nice being ripped apart by four volleys of rifle fire.
:D
A great distraction/attraction is the AWM. Noticed it in the last match actually. When you hear that sound you give it attention. Sometimes the real action is elsewhere.
true, its also often slows down the opposition making them lie low giving you team the chance to advance......
I must admit I've had my moments just fireing that thing in the air.... Love that sound :-)
Yup me again. :P
