Title: Transport help - post here!
Post by: TeaLeaf on June 10, 2012, 11:12:07 AM
As we expect to have quite a few people coming in to the UK via airports I thought it would help somewhat to collate a list of who is arriving when and where so that people can volunteer to help out other dMw members with the transportation requirements.

Please post here is you need help with transport from an airport to the LAN (or back again).  When transport has been offered by another LAN/Meet attendee we'll add the details here so that we can see who has transport and who still needs to be helped out.

Looking at prices and flights it seems that Gatwick is the fastest and cheapest for me to fly to. Would these arrival/departure times be horrible to make?
Arrival Thursday - LGW 10:15
Departure Sunday - LGW 10:50

The Sunday one could be quite a pain to make I assume, but the next flight is at 20:00 something.

The Sunday would be a pain in the ass mate probably have to leave at least by 9am if you would be walking straight on to the planeif I am honest. Also look here and post it up here mate as there are others as well.

Posted in another thread already. I'm looking into getting a later departure time. I may have to switch to Heathrow for the departure then, and it will cost about twice as much :(

I can probably do the pick up early from Gatwick on Thursday morning if that helps? And can drop off back there but really not keen on the very early start that would be needed.

I also traveling up and back with one other and carrying some spare kit for DD so space might be limited (only drive a hatch back) but depending on things I can prob do a drop off to Stansted for 1 and at a push 2 people.

If it is Heathrow you can squeeze in with Spiritus/Kakehund & Faust again if it is a similar or later departure time?

That should be fine Vargen, we'll just need to leave a little earlier from the hotel, but I'll make sure it's up to you to wake the others up and get them breakfasted & out of the door in time!

Nice, can anyone handle the Stansted run?   As a fall-back position I can do the Friday morning, but as I get the LAN on Thursday I'd be departing & returning so would prefer if someone scheduled to arrive on Friday could volunteer?

Sunday we'll see if we can get Rob to do the minivan again if nobody volunteers.

Just so you know, I'll be driving down from Preston (Lancs), and would be happy to pick up anyone that lives on the way! I'm giving peanut a lift so still have 3 seats in the car, although we will need room for all the gear ofc.

Just thought I'd offer in case it helps anyone!

I was waiting until a little nearer the time before posting.

I *should* be fine for the Stansted pick-ups on Friday morning but it is client-dependent. I have nothing scheduled but it's in the lap of the Gods as to whether something happens and I need to do some crisis management.

So I'm 90% fine to pick up the Stansted three.

As I found the fares for renting a car low, I will this year learn how to drive on the wrong side of the road *sigh*.

I will have a car at the size of a medium sized pumpkin, but it should have 4 seats. This opens for bringing some dutch ppl to Stanstead on Sunday. My plane will lift off at 13:45. Soo.. Ice Hawk, Melli and Hubbah *might* fit in.

Gortex is there any chance you could drop off Drazilla too along with Vargen on the Sunday?

Looks like I will need help at Heathrow too, is anyone available to help on the Thursday?    I can take 4 max (they're not exactly small chaps), so if another car gets to LHR too then we can split 3 for me, 2 for you.   Any volunteers?

TL I think there is a confusion or incorrect times on the main part of the post. Drazilla is on the same flight as Vargen as I understand it and getting into Gatwick at 10:15 on Thursday and not 14:25. I think this is the time of the flight he is getting from heathrow on the way back.

It would make sense for me to collect both Drazilla and Vargen at the same time from Gatwick but as mentioned I don't have a big car and will be traveling with Feezuki and PC gear. She might be bringing her laptop which will cut down on space and will check with her on that one. Put me down as the driver for this but I will point out fellas not to bring to much gear if it can be avoided as I can see you having it on your lap for most of the way.

Like wise I can travel home on Sunday via Heathrow if that will help with the same people in car.

I copied & pasted and forgot to edit the time, it should indeed be the same as Vargen (as posted above).  OP corrected.

Gortex is currently down to collect Vargen on Thursday morning.  It would make sense for only person to make the trip, so can I ask that you liaise with him to see what is best, particularly if you already have Feez onboard.

Once you confirm who is picking up whom I can edit the OP to reflect who will actually be doing the pickup!  Thanks :)

I'm still looking for LHR help:

Just to confirm I can easily pick up both Vargen and Drazilla from Gatwick on Thursday and then take them to Heathrow on Sunday. I'll pick up the Stansted three arriving at 9.30am (Ice Hawk, Hubbah and Mellisanda).

Michelanio, I know you're happy to get the train which is quick on the Friday and we can get you a lift from the station.

If Slush can take back Hubbah and Mel on the Sunday as your flights are the earliest, and I take back Ice and Michelanio then that should work well and we're pretty much covered.

For the three I'm picking up on Friday, I think we'll be fine so long as you don't have a whacking load of stuff. You can even fight over the back seats to watch a DVD should you desire (and if swmbo doesn't grab them). The choice may be limited to that of 9 yr olds' but seeing as you're all pixies I'm sure we can find something suitable :narnar::flirty:.

Once Slush confirms this works for him, I'll PM you with my mobile number and directions on where to meet. We can stop at McDonalds on the way out for coffee etc if you need something to keep you going!

Cheers

PEN

I can give them both lifts if they want, finish work in north london at 16:15 so if they can head my way no rental needed (going back on sun though)

I can do a bit of a drive around to pick them up but would prefer to avoid going into London to do so.
