I have a friend who is looking to make a simple video to celebrate a relatives wedding anniversary. The idea is to get various friends and relatives together in small groups to lip-sync over a couple of favourite songs and to record themselves doing so. My friend then plans on having the various pieces of film edited together and combined with the actual soundtrack of the two songs to create a sort of montage of friends and family singing the two songs.
We've no idea what format these clips will come in but I guess they will mostly be done on iPhones and Android phones with maybe some actual digicam footage as well. Are there any film making experts out there that could suggest a piece of software that might do the job? At the moment we're looking at Windows Movie Maker as there's no real budget for software. My friend would be willing to discuss paying someone to do the edits if anyone is interested? Otherwise any tips on the best way to approach this would be welcome.

Sony Vegas would certainly do it better and with more options, but tbh Windows Movie Maker will do it perfectly fine as long as he does not want too many fancy effects added (which is where something like Sony Vegas or other more advanced software take over).
I've got no experience of this, sorry.
One of our lot created a YouTube video from a lot of stills and movies using Adobe Premiere which she got on a trial if that helps.
I use premiere elements and is a very reasonable price for the power it gives you. I also believe that there is a 30 day trial option.
