So we've had a couple of days privately to use the server with the odd public joining.

Like Boomer of old would you like the server to be made public?

Vote away!

I think the vote is a tricky one to answer when as yet the password function does not work.

I'll be back when it works.  And atm if you password it there are insufficient players for a game.

What's the server overhead on our current kit. Is there a problem with running a Meathook as well as a Boomer. Obviously only possible if they do allow passwords.

But we should have a public server no matter what and just be draconian on it.

The question should be: do we want to play CS on our server according to our rules (play to the objectives, don't go frag hunting etc etc).

If we do, then it's got to be passworded. Good luck getting random pubbies to behave themselves....

I also think it is hard to answer, but perhaps like in BF3 where there is this weekly thing (dMw versus the world/dMw night), CS:GO like other games (and maybe you had this when you guys were into CS:S) should have these weekly event(s) where the server is opened for the public to join so dMw in one team, "the world" on the other.

More often that not, random strangers that end up in a server don't know the rules and can become annoying and sometimes ends up in a situation where an admin has to kick them - so perhaps a private will avoid that.

No problem whatsoever, BA4 has more than enough horsepower to run both in addition to the other game servers it handles.

I'll go with one of each, I've no problem with playing TCS with pubbies, the ones that like it will stay ( like I did * ) & the ones that don't, won't.

* this may not be the best example.

Perhaps PW only on Fridays (or whenever our weekly day will be) and non-PW the rest of the time? I likes me a bit of pub stomping now and again

When they fix friends of friends being able to join passworded servers, which they will have to for competitive games, then we should have a passworded server like Meathook which we can go to when we have enough members on.

But for now whilst the game is still taking off and people are getting used to it then the public should be encouraged to play with dMw and to join upto the forums and take part in the way we operate.

Baldric and Meathook if possible in the end though would be the best solution. Like the olden days :D

ps. what were the rules behind the cs vet badge as I never got one :(

A well drilled team playing TCS style should mostly beat pubbers frag hunting. The problem is in finding that well drilled team.

To draw the punters in we need a public server and CS has always been a good hunting ground in the past. Just look at the quality of people drawn in in the past, errr actually don't look too closely, in fact just don't look.

If we've got the power then a private and a public server a la old times would be a good solution. We start on the public and if there are enough we publicise we're off onto our private server and go. Some people will be intrigued and if sufficiently bright manage to find out how to join us. This process will be akin to natural selection and weed out those that can't read or write.
