If anyone's looking for a good new book, this is it. It's based in the future inside a huge simulation called the OASIS, which is basically an MMO universe. Bigger than EVE, with everything from pop culture included. Seriously, there's Star Wars universes, Star Trek universes, Firefly universes, the lot. And the guy who created this dies, and creates the biggest competition known - for about $240 billion and ownership of the OASIS. This guy grew up and is obsessed with the 80s, so cue a new generation quoting 80s pop culture and making references to the 80s, throughout the entirety of the book. And, of course, 80s video games like Joust and Pac Man.
I loved this book to death, seriously. It's well worth a read if you're into this sort of stuff.

...and it's available from the dMw Shop (link is on the front page) - click HERE (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/content.php?191-dmw-amazon-shop) or click the Shop link in the top forum banner.
Just finished reading this today. Very good, struggled to put it down. :)
Now I need to fins something else, perhaps reread Otherland by Tad Williams again. I had started that one ages ago but dropped off the radar.
Glad you enjoyed it! Apparently they're going to make it into a movie at some point, although how that'll work I'm not sure. But I hope it's good, if they do it :)

Yea I heard that aswell, I can't see it living up to the book though :) Still I'd give it a try.
I don't think it could, I don't think they can recreate all of the universe and especially with all the references to pop culture, that would cause some licencing issues I think :( but I would still go and give it a try :)
Seems Mr Spielberg is making a film of this (http://www.ew.com/article/2015/08/06/steven-spielbergs-adaptation-ready-player-one-set-2017). Gonna need some mad CGI I'd think.
And the some and one hell of a lot of trade mark and licences
