Post by: sulky_uk on September 25, 2012, 04:35:51 PM
I picked up the DVD version for £28 cause it included the premium content. Loaded the DVD into the drive and My computer said it had 0mb free of 7.9gb. So i began the install and it started steam, no issues i thought and then it  preceded to download the whole game after i put in the code in. I check the dvd and it has got 5 gigs of files on there...so my question is

Why am i downloading the fecking thing and *** is on the disc!!!

if i were still on gib on 4 meg i would be even more ****ed

rant over

Here's the best way to do DVD installs of Steamworks games that I've found.

1. Insert license keys.
2. When registered, do not start the download.
3. Go to the Backup/Restore functions of Steam and select your DVD drive.
4. Select the game and do the restore.

This way Steam will not go away and start to download stuff from the Steam servers until it has finished the restore 100%. Obviously there will be some activation downloading after the fact, but from what I can remember that was hardly anything.

Also make sure you have your old BL saved games on your PC, it'll detect them and unlock a few extra bits.

The Premium Club stuff is activated with a key thats on the seperate card in the DVD case.
