Just announced (well, officially) and although the specs were leaked yonks ago the price is unbelievable .... read CHEAP.
16GB version is 279 GBP (https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_4_16gb)
I will be laying down some hard cash if the reviews are favourable.
Look like a good phone at that price. No 4G though...
Wow, contract phones will be a thing of the past if this is the start of a trend.
EDIT: The CPU in that is 50% faster than the S3...and that's no slouch.
As for 4G, there's no 4G within an hour of me so I'm not considering that a downside. By the time my contract ends (20 months) I'm sure the situation will probably have changed...but as things stand the UK doesn't have much coverage: London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield and Glasgow
With Belfast, Derby, Hull, Nottingham and Newcastle following around Christmas time...still no Swansea till 2013/2014.

When I saw that price yesterday I had exactly the same thought OB. £279 and I'm buying, so long as there's no major issues discovered in the reviews. The lack of 4G does not bother me at the moment as I spend most of my time in a WiFi environment. However the low price means I can afford to replace the phone again that much sooner if 4G becomes a 'must have'.
Spent a fruitless hour this morning trying to order the 16GB version. Looks like it's now out of stock.
Unable to order in my country -.-

Likewise, never saw any stock of the 16GB, just the 8GB.
Am i correct in saying that there is no sd card slot and removable battery?
Sent from my LG-P970 using Tapatalk 2
No SD card, you need a screwdriver to get back off afaiaa. In the past I have been quite worried by lackof SD slots, but a harsh review of what I actually use my phone for leads me to believe that I don;t need one for my use. 16GB should be plenty for my phone.
The what *really* appeals to me is a vanilla Android, meaning updates go out right away. I might find I miss some elements of other customisations, but I'm willing to risk it in the interest of scientific exploration!
thats a big shame, but still one hell of a price! cheapest S3 is still around the £380 mark
It's got me thinking about the LG P880, very similar spec and price at £299
http://www.lg.com/uk/mobile-phones/lg-P880
I tried to order one as well and failed. I hope they get stock again soon.
Quote from: Whitey;361482I tried to order one as well and failed. I hope they get stock again soon.
At one stage I actually got to the 'pay now' button but it spat me out and I never got there again. Damn and blast.
would have been hard to get one according to this
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/lg-s-nexus-phone-sells-out-within-30-minutes-in-uk.html (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/lg-s-nexus-phone-sells-out-within-30-minutes-in-uk.html)
This (http://pocketnow.com/2012/11/13/pre-order-nexus-4) on Pocketnow.com sums it up nicely. Yes, I'm still bitter :ranting2:
The price is too good. Just like the Raspberry Pi, if something cost significantly less than the competition they're going to struggle to meet demand. I'm not saying they should raise it. I love the price. I'll never need another contract again. In fact before my contract even ends I could quite happily buy a newer phone if something with great specs keeps coming out at this sort of price (or less).
Unfortunately it's a shock to the system, the other manufacturers haven't caught on yet and so everything rests with google (LG) so the site was always going to be hammered. I imagine in a week they'll have more and in a month they'll barely be any queues (If LG are taking production seriously).
Nexus phones are somewhat of a niche, so yes they sold out fast, but the target audience is still relatively small relative to what these big companies can produce.
So, if I manage to get one of these, what sort of contract would be best (low usage)?
Should I go PAYG on my same supplier? (Orange/EE)
I was planning to stick it on my current SIM-only deal with Three.

Good news, ever wanted to pay much....much more for the Nexus 4??!!? £50....£75.....£100.....
Well the Carphone warehouse will sell it to you for £389.95 (16gb version) over google play's pathetic £279 price , but don't worry, Requests have come flooding in to increase this price further!
http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2012/11/23/nexus-4-16gb-in-stock-at-carphone-warehouse-with-high-price/
It's a free country and there's no law against being an idiot I suppose.
As to why CPW are selling the phone for over a hundred pounds more than Google does I'm not sure. They might just be evil and believe punters will not know about the price the could get it for direct from Google. £380 would seem a fair price for a non contract top end phone when compared to Samsung's, Motorola's, iPhones etc. So customers not in the know wouldn't think anything was amiss. Then again maybe CPW just don't get a discount and selling at £260 would be a loss maker for them? Google are hoping to generate sales from apps, media content and advertising that new Nexus 4 owners will provide and I imagine they are happy to sell the phone at cost or below. But CPW won't see any money from these after sales, so need to make their profit on the phone. £380 does seem such a lot more than Google's price so I imagine they just can't match it. But then maybe I credit CPW with far more integrity than they actually have.
Purchased from CPW. Delivery tomorrow. I'm such an impatient bugger :)

Yeah. Saw that which kinda sealed it for me.
I am not sure I just managed to order one and it says 1 - 2 weeks will let you know.
looks like they are back in stock!
edit: Well, it has 4-5 weeks shipping
Yep, don't mind that, ordered mine.
Had mine a few days now and I'm really impressed with it. Need to get the official bumper for it though as it's a slippery beast.
Ordered as well.
I am thinking about this as a possible upgrade but I am still in Love with my galaxy S2's looks and it still does everything I ask of it.
Can you actually use all of the extra power on android on any apps available? loadup time minimisation is great but I dont mind the speed of my current phone.
So whats is best features on your opinion?
The screen looks like a big upgrade but apart from that what do you love about it?
Cheers,
DZ
Likewise, I dropped £250 on my S2 back in August when my HTC Desire melted. Can't possibly justify an upgrade (although 2nd hand S2 + new Nexus 4 < iPhone5!) but would be nice to know the real world difference between the S2 and N4
I've got the S3 and I have to say the screen is a huge improvement over my old phone which had a 4" screen. The N4 doesn't add anything to give me incentive to upgrade from what I have, in fact I'd lose expandable memory and removable battery. If my contract were now expiring from my 4" screen phone I'd definitely make the jump. But I love the fact that a phone that rivals the S3 (a £500 phone) is available for half its price.
I hope this trend continues, and maybe when my phone feels a little long in the tooth I'll go with the latest iteration of the N4.
Without sounding funny, but the S3 is still a higher spec than the Nexus 4, but thats because the N4 is cheaper (£279 vs £380ish), I think OB had the S2 though IIRC?
Was hoping for the S3 to come down further in price, but it hasn't yet, so purchased the similar LG P880 (which has the expandable memory etc) for around (£280-300)
Still got my eye on the motorola RAZR maxx HD, looks lovely!
Oldie went from an S2 to the N4 so I think he's the man to check with......... Oldie?
Ok, slight surprise is registering on my face at the moment.
My Nexus4 was delivered to me at 7.15am this morning by TNT. So much for the 4-5 week expected delivery time, it's 48 hours since it was ordered! Package unwrapping will commence after breakfast!
Package itself is surprisingly small, 0.65kg shipped weight and has just the phone, a micro-USB lead and a SIM-ejection tool enclosed. I'm already loving the speckled graphite look to the rear of the phone, it gives it a real quality look. Feels very solid, none of the bend or flex reported in other similar-sized phones.
Got the phone plugged in to charge the battery for the first time and you can really tell that the screen is going to be gorgeous just from the big battery charging animation that comes up in the middle of the screen. Will report more once I get this puppy full of volts and properly turned on.
What a great way to start the day!
My work mate has got a delivery notification, my only question is where is mine :)
First problem, I'd not bothered to order a Micro-SIM from Three yet as I was not expecting the phone for another 4 weeks! Oh well, a trip into town to the local Three store is called for I guess!

I guess the 4-5 weeks is just so they don't get a mad rush of Christmas orders. Then they'd sell out again and get more bad press.
Mine is sitting in Carlisle due for delivery tomorrow. :D
Been very impressed with mine and I am loving the screen. Speed is superb too.

I THINK you can literally just cut your SIM card down to shape, IIRC there are templates on the net, but I might be wrong
Damn you! Damn you all! I've just had to go for it as what was my fantastic Sony Xperia S has turned into an unstable piece of steaming dung since the latest update. It drops calls randomly, the phone crashes when an incoming call happens and it's really, really winding me up! It's a fantastic piece of hardware, I love the styling and feel of it but the Sony implementation of the software leaves much to be desired. So, it's worth around £125 on mazuma so I'll get a bit of cash back for it.
Let's see how long it takes to get the N4 (says 6-8 weeks at the moment!)

I can't justify a Nexus 4 for myself. Not as long as my Galaxy Nexus is still performing as beautifully as the day I got it. It's the best phone I've ever had, even better than my old Nokia 6210 (Compared to the tech of the day) :D
Just rock solid. No hiccups, not even after modding the crap out of it and going back to stock a couple of times (Usually modded right before a new major release, and went stock as the release hit). 4.2 is brilliant :D
Still not got mine

Same, looks like their six to seven week estimate is accurate so I'm guessing it'll arrive sometime in the new year.
Are there more people now that have recived there Nexus 4 phone or is TL still the only one here.?
Im still waiting for it and so far heard nothing when its got deliverd.
@TL can you write done your thoughts bout the phone so far and your experience.
I was upgrading from an ancient and early HTC Hero, so the process of switching to the new phone was straightforward and once Google got hooked up with my account it synched everything from Google Play/Email/Calendar/Contacts etc.
I was worried by the Nexus 4 size increase compared to the Hero, but actually I've found that the extra size makes it easier to use with one hand. With my Hero I really had to struggle to bend my thumb back onto the screen because it was so small. With the Nexus it's a much more relaxed experience.
Pocket-wise, it fits no problem. I regularly keep the phone in the front pocket of my jeans and it does not snip ma' balls off when I sit down in the car, and it doesn't feel like I'm packing heat, so it's a winner from that perspective :P
Touch screen response is brilliant, as is the default Slide Keyboard (which Whitey tried).
The phone's response time is simply amazing. It doesn't matter what I already have running or what I am doing, when you tap something it opens up instantly.
SatNav speed is a huge improvement on the Hero. I get directions before the exit of a roundabout now, whereas my Hero was always telling me I should take the exit that I passed 50 yards back.
The screen is simply georgeous.
I have had no hangs, no glitches, no problems.
Battery life seems good. I have had mine out for 15 hour days with Wi-Fi on all the time (and regularly used) and still had loads of battery left at the end of the day.
Not sure what else to say really. Did I mention the fabulous screen?
For the price it is simply stunning. Buy one.
Cheers TL.
Bout the price i have to pay for myn 350 Euro for the 16 G version.
The phone wont come to The Netherlands they say maybe late in 2013 and i have heard that the price then gonna be around for the 16 G version round 500 Euro.
On the Market place they are asking around 550 Euro here!
Did you use googles satnav?
Sent from my LG-P880 using Tapatalk 2
No, Apple's. :P
Of course I used Google's satnav!
what I meant was, was it Google's own satnav or one off the android market :flirty:
Google's. It's the default one pre-loaded on the phone. I usually use the 'mic' button on the front screen and say "navigate to....." and it does the speech recognition, opens up the nav app, selects the route and starts directing you. Nothing from the store has been added.
I'm really happy with the phone too and I've been using Google Sat Nav and it's worked well for me to the point that I haven't bothered installing CoPilot on it (I've used CoPilot on my tablet for a couple of years). The Swipe keyboard is really good and makes typing so much faster. As for the screen...not sure anyone else has mentioned just how good it is :flirty:
I've just been upgraded and got an iPhone 5 - I'm using google sat nav too :)
mine has (finally!) shipped, so actually time to start backing stuff up off the aged htc...
Mine too woohoo apperantly will be here by Wednesday
Still waiting for mine so far not heared any thing when it comes.
Mmm, Shiny phone
So far my ham handed kitchen scissors and hoping for the best approach to sim card micro-fication seems to be a success :D ...phew
Now what case/sleeve/screen-protector do I want?

It is a lovely phone, still getting mine setup. I did purchase one of these PDair Leather Case (http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-Nexus4-Leather-Case-Black/dp/B00AG6VD5Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358931758&sr=8-1) but I'm now selling it as it's too thick for the wireless charging to work. I know I could just use the USB cable but I like the fact that I can just plonk the phone down and it charges!
Anyway, it's a fantastic case, really well made and if you want it, it's yours for £20 delivered. (It's on amazon market place too, so do let me know if interested and I'll remove it!)
Oh, and as for a case for me, I'm just using a phone sock for transport and leaving it bare for use as it's got gorrilla glass on the front and back so it should be fine. I look after my phones anyway so it'll still be like new in a years time.
I get mine on Thursday :(
These have just gone back on sale if anyone is interested.
Let us know what you think

Lovely phone, worth every penny and very highly recommended.
:withstupid::withstupid:
Resurrecting an old (ish) thread but after a quick go on TL and Toby's phones recently and due to a few hefty invoices payments hitting the bank account, I've gone and added a Nexus 4 to my Nexus 7. Plus the battery on my rooted S2 is losing the will to live. yes i know you can get replacement batteries and yes I know therefore it's just a weak excuse to buy a new gadget, so shut up.
Still very happy with mine tbh. Not found anything that I want it to do that it cannot.
I am with TL. It is a great phone

OK it's upgrade time.
I currently have a contract with Orange (£27 odd pm) that is about to expire.
I want a Nexus 4, which Orange don't offer, and a cheaper or even payg contract with the same mob number.
I'm a fairly light user (no mates)
What's my best bet?
Not tempted by the imminent Nexus 5?
Take a look at Giff Gaff. If you buy a Nexus from Google and get a SIM from GG you're good to go. However it's very likely that in the next month the new Nexus will launch, so might be worth holding on. That being said the Nexus 4 is now dirt cheap.
Nexus 4 + Giffgaff here and very happy.

Yes :)
Take a look at GG website, from what I remember it's pay as you go - you select your top up or purchase a monthly? goodie bag for upwards of £20? with varying perks where as Virgin sim only is all set.
Quote from: Blunt;376017Nexus 4 on ebay and elsewhere afaik. If I went with GG would I still keep my No?
You need a PUK code from Orange, and you tell that to Giff Gaff/Virgin and they should transfer your number onto the sim card they send you. Changing numbers can be a bit tricky sometimes because if it doesn't go smoothly you wind up having 2 numbers for longer than you'd like, but it's generally worth the effort to avoid being one of those people who changes numbers ever couple of years.
I've recently switched over to Giffgaff from Vodaphone + Nexus 4 & it's a simple process, sign up on the site & request a sim card, phone your current provider & ask for your pac code, once the sim turns up chuck it in your phone & take it from there. You can either run it as payg or use goodybags which give you 30 days with stuff, + you can set it to automatically renew so it's more like a 30 day rolling contract - I went with £10 goodybag = 500mins, unlimited text 1gb net ( register before end of October as it goes back to 250 mins )
Edit - my sim order page pimpage - https://giffgaff.com/orders/affiliate/rizzy28
Cheers Albert.
If you can wait until the nexus 5 comes it, it sounds like a few people in dMw will be upgrading their nexus 4s. Possibly safer than eBay ... with some exceptions! ;-)
I went with the nexus 4 blunt went with the 30 day rolling contract with 3 12.90 a month all the data I can eat, 200 mins and 3000 text. Not been happier. I like it cause I know I can change and not locked in to anyone.
