Title: Question 2 scrolling combat text.
Post by: smilodon on January 22, 2013, 02:15:44 PM
I'm finding scrolling combat text (default WOW and addons like Parrot) to be a bit of a pain as it's making it harder to see important DBM announcements. I've not seem any combat text that seems useful to know. So I've completely disabled it and rely just on DBM for seeing important info. Have I done wrong here? Is there something that I need to be seeing in combat text that I've just disabled or is it OK to disable scrolling combat text?

Thanks

Combat text ...90% of the time its just numbers impeding your screen. It can be some small use for seeing incoming damage and heals.

Most addons have some sort of filter so you don't get a wall of spam. As an example I only show anything over 100k and even then its well away from my field of view

Running without it will have little effect tho running with one poorly configured could easily mess you up. You can have too much info in this game and keeping your UI to only show what you need will be a big help

For tanks, its very ok to turn off scrolling combat text. As a dps shaman, i like to see if the correct spells are crits and where my dots are at so I've keep on that toon.

If you consider using an Addon for this, I would recommend MikScrollingBattleText (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/mik-scrolling-battle-text), as its very easy to customie.

Get rid of scrolling combat text totally and use EavesDrop (via Curse) instead.  Sometimes it is useful to see what is inbound (or outbound), but I like to limit its impact to the little box that the addon provides.

See it in my annotated UI picture here:
