Title: Minecraft HD textures
Post by: Liberator on February 26, 2013, 11:08:52 PM
Updated for MC 1.5

Minecraft goes out of it's way to look 8-bit out of the box. This can get a bit grating and so it's a good idea to install an HD texture pack.

I use the "Sphax PureDBCraft HD" pack, but all the HD packs need the same process to install.

Sphax HD pack (http://bdcraft.net/), I am using "MC1.5.0 - x128 (recommended)".

You'll also need the HD patcher (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1496369-15-147update-312-mcpatcher-hd-fix-302-245-03/page__st__7180#entry20373720). This needs to be run whenever MC updates, it patches the Java to allow HD.

Note:- The directory structure  for packs has changed in 1.5 from 1.4.7. Your old texture packs from  other sources will need converting if they have not released a new  version yet. This version of the patcher has a conversion option on the  top menu to allow conversion of pre-1.5 packs to the new file format.

1. Open MC, and under the "Options" select "Texture Packs".
2. Select "Open texture pack folder".
3. Drop the full texture Zip file into the folder as is and close the folder.
4. Select the pack in game, may take a few seconds to switch.
5. Done.
6. Close MineCraft.
7. Run MC-Patcher.
8. Check/Uncheck boxes as required (By default they are all ticked and this is what most use)
9. Patch and close the patcher.
10. run MineCraft and enjoy.

Beware, glass (sheet and brick) becomes proper glass, invisible at the  joins except for a thin wooden frame on the very exterior edges. Where  glass turns a corner it will also be invisible.

It turns this:

Into this:

14/03/13:- Updated link with MC-Patcher for 1.5, New Sphax for MC1.5 is now available containing the missing animation files included in a previous fix file.

He's playing the free classic version. It's not being developed any more though and is very limited in features. It's fun for a little free game though.
