Title: I am just going outside and may be some time...
Post by: Blunt on April 04, 2013, 01:34:21 PM
I'm just about to attempt a headlamp replacement on my wife's 07 Megane.

After thorough research on the web (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=nXCZ2v-nIF4) I'm not particularly looking forward to it.

If I'm not around for a few days you'll know why.

Wow, as well as MPG cars should come with an average running cost to give an indication of how much replacing bulbs, tyres, oil, air filters etc is likely to cost you in the first 5 years following the recommended service interval or using ballpark lifespans for tyres and bulbs.

One of those A to E efficiency graphs would really warn you off getting a car that shows up in the bottom category for running costs and that would make manufacturers think bad designs through a bit more.

Good luck with changing it. The brakes don't happen to need doing at the same time, two birds and one stone etc?

Took about an hour; I can reduce that to about 30 mins next time with knowledge gained.

Basically, it's wheel off, remove access panel, twist off cover, yank out bulb and wires, replace bulb, then replace the lot.
Only tools needed, apart from wheel removal, is a torch.
Replacing the bulb the right way round by touch alone was the worst bit and took the longest.

Not a pleasant job, but not the worst (although I did a lot of swearing, but that is normal for me).

Pretty sure that doing this successfully makes you a qualified gynaecologist.

So no more charging at amateur rates.
