As you can probably tell, I have a forum styling bee in my bonnet so I've been messing with changing the icons on a per forum topic basis. I've currently only replaced the 'no new posts in this section' icon so that you can see what it is like and wanted to get some feedback please before putting the effort into changing all the topic icons (there are 5 per topic so it's a lot of work to do if I then find out that don't like them!).
Feedback please. I think our forum is looking tired, bland and older than me, so we need to freshen it up and I'm in spring cleaning mood.
Edit: I'm aware it knocks the subforum icons out of whack, but that's easily fixed or reverted.
Looks good, nice to have a bit of a change now and again :)
I like them breaks up the page nicely :)
I did see one of the DMR people asking for a like button al la Facebook, I personaly think that is not a great idea cause then it does really add to the conversation. IMHO
do we have icons for all topics? it just might look a little odd if some have i.e the game sections only and none of the other sections. just a thought
I've only done some games so as not to leave too much work to revert to the original if nobody likes this sort of thing. If people like it then we'll work on icons for each section and all the 48 million sub-variants of each icon that is needed. I wasn't going to set into 100 hours of work on a 'just in case' basis.

totally understandable :)
Love it TL, looks great :)
100 hours, that's 4 and a bit days work, crack on!
I like them too. Certainly better for the sterile incumbents.
Perhaps we can spread the load a bit if each GL is happy to source some for their own sections.
Really liking the new icons. Re a conversation between TL and myself I'm looking at theming options within VBulletin. Sadly it's a bit like shoveling water up hill as VBulletin isn't very friendly to themes. Hopefully though I can find some visual styles that will compliment and expand on the the new look.

Whitey made a good point last night when we discussed them, it would help to have them themed so that they are all in the same style. He used the example of the mirrored look, rounded corners etc and it would not be too difficult to make them all look like they are from the same school of design (after all, mine were simply roughly edited in Paint following a quick web search for a suitable icon). Clearly we need to develop a set of themed icons (much like our Award badges are all themed), but the general response from people I have spoken to so far seems positive.
Re the forum theme, let's hook up Smilo, I'm trying to do the same myself so we can probably compare notes and save ourselves some time. As you said however, it's a real sh*tfest trying to understand the vbulletin way of doing things
I'll revert to standard tomorrow as it was only a temporary (and piecemeal) thing. Nice experiment, but I think we need to spend a chunk of time developing a coherent suite of icons. I'll add it to the WIP list.
As we discussed what we really need is a Photoshop Guru to help us with the graphics. I'm Ok with complete photographs but not with logo's text and graphics. Maybe we should ask in the wider community?
Didn't frenzy say he would help or were we going to ask him?

Oldie was going to ask Frenzy if he would mind doing the award icons, but skinning a suite of forum icons is a whole other level of commitment! I don't think the PS work need be tremendously tricky, so I'm not sure guru-level expertise is needed, but we'll take a look at things and come back to folks once we have something worth reviewing.
