Released this weekend, got my copy from Gamefly for £27.99 with 20% off coupon (GFDMAY20UK), but there might be better deals out there.
Hoping this will be as good as Metro 2023
I've been playing since last night.
Too much scripted stuff so far. I think out of three hours, nearly one hour has been scripted (non-interactive movie) in either long or short segments. The game is good, when you do get to play it, but very linear so far.
It has a very slow start, sure, but once you get past the scripting its a pretty cool game. Very linear, but so was the first one, and it is intentional! Not meant to be a sprawling open world this one. I'm loving it so far though, the game is swamped in atmosphere and has an incredible setting, thanks mainly to the source material (the book, Metro 2033, is really good!).
Yeah I wouldn't attack it for being too linear (as what most of the game reviews are doing right now). The first one was the same as this, it's not the sort of game that is supposed to be open-world anyway, the first wasn't - so why attack the this one for sticking to the cause? Metro was always about the immersion, which it excels in every way, if this has been done through linearity then so be it! Looking forward to picking up a copy some time soon, I thoroughly enjoyed the first Metro, hope this one will be great!
Linearity?
HL&HL2 were pretty linear as I recall.
Nowt wrong with that as long as the story is immersive and good to play.
I plan to get this & another 'linear' game, Tomb Raider, as soon as I get another hd.
Tomb Raider is also great!
I am really loving this game so far. I loved the first too, and this 'just' seems like a better version of that one. If you consider it was made by a tiny team of devs in a really poor country, with a fraction of the resources available when compared to the likes of Battlefields, Call of D00ties, and so on, it is a very impressive game. And once again, the books are great! Well worth reading.
Ps, the surface world literally took my breath away earlier, beautiful.
Completed the game, not a big game but not what i would call small either, for a single player game only it is quite expensive for what it is, but still enjoyed it :)
I'm still plodding along slowly. Just reached Venice. Still loving it. Some of the bits in the tunnels alone are really fantastic. A lot of the off the beaten track side rooms and such have some fantastic creepy extras hidden away.

These are both on my "after thesis" list. Might wait for a sale. Greenmangaming does some pretty reasonable ones. Apparently it had last light for £24(ish) recently. I'll pick it up when it next goes on sale.
