Count me in for this and looking forward to it. :yahoo:
Might be me +1 as Feezuki is a bit of cider rather than beer drinker but there will be plenty of that on tap to try and she is just checking with work. If both of us then we will prob get a hotel in London for Friday night and then go do something different (prob shopping in Camden she has her way) on the Sat.
Oh and Ticket brought :D

Ticket bought.
What short of time/place are we thinking about meeting up? Doors open at noon but it might be better to turn up later so any queue is gone...
Agreed, 12.00pm would be too early imo and it might be nicer to miss the Friday lunchtime crowd and arrive after lunch, sometime mid-afternoon?
To save me having to do the work myself, does anyone know of any decent (yet cheap) hotels nearby?

I'm planning to let the train take the strain though, but I hope these help!

Olympia London is the only venue in London with a dedicated rail station, served by the London Overground and national rail networks. A further five Underground lines are connected; only a short walk away, so everyone can arrive together.
TRAIN & TUBE
London Overground
Kensington (Olympia) is on the London Overground network.
It's one stop from Shepherd's Bush (Central line) or West Brompton (District line).
The venue is next to the station.
Piccadilly Line
Baron's Court is a 9 minute walk away.
A shuttle bus from Earls Court station is provided for some events. Please check the event listings for details.
Hammersmith & City Line
Hammersmith Station is an 5 minute bus ride or 15 minute walk away.
Circle Line
Hammersmith Station is an 5 minute bus ride or 15 minute walk away.
High Street Kensington is a 4 minute bus ride or 12 minute walk away.
Central Line
Change at Shepherd's Bush for a 2 minute Overground train to Kensington (Olympia).
District Line
Change at West Brompton for a 2 minute Overground train to Kensington (Olympia).
Alternatively West Kensington is an 8 minute walk away, and High Street Kensington is a 4 minute bus ride or 12 minute walk away.
There is also an occasional service from Earls Court on weekends, and for some major events. Please check before you travel.
It'll be train for me too, we've just got to agree on a time!
Well, I expect we might get a range of times and tbh 12.00pm - 10.30pm is a heck of a long time to spend taste-testing ales! How about we aim to meet up at say 2.30pm (just after any lunchtime rush)? We can get some food inside the hall and then start making our way around the Festival. I'm aiming for lunch, dinner & perhaps a Thai spicy noodle session at the end of the evening :P
Does 2.30pm sound about right for people? I suspect we'll get people arriving at different times anyway, so we could always keep in touch by phone or have some pre-arranged meeting points.
2:30 sounds good as I'd be up for lunch after a few hours on the train!
I have booked a night in the Premier Inn in Earl's Court which is just round the corner from the Olympia and is £30 cheaper than booking the same chain hotel onsite.
I would suggest finding a twin Tut but not sure I want to share a room with a Wasps fan :narnar: also if Feez decides she will join us am sure she would rather I stay in a room with her.
Soonest I can get there is about 6-7pm. Will you still be there then?
Quote from: GhostMjr;371353Soonest I can get there is about 6-7pm. Will you still be there then?
I would suggest that is a big YES! It shuts at 10,30pm, I'm getting a train home at about 10:40pm.
Quote from: GhostMjr;371353Soonest I can get there is about 6-7pm. Will you still be there then?
What are you suggesting? We'll only be getting started :D
Quotenot sure I want to share a room with a Wasps fan
Now that's just rude. Especially after we generously gave you 3 points in February so that you wouldn't get relegated. Ungrateful swines...
Ok, I have got my ticket, and GhostMjr has also got his :) See you there chaps xD
Can we get some polo's made up?
Suggest Brown to keep with the whole brown ale theme
I would be up for it
Ticket purchased :)
OP updated!
My ticket arrived today - bring on the beer!
Have a great time, plans to go to the UK have just been changed, seems my grand daughter is coming for a visit at the end of July.
Ant
So there's going to be 9 of us at the Beer Festival, anyone else joining us for this very pleasant and highly sociable jaunt?
Morning Comrades!
The beer list has been published: http://www.gbbf.org.uk/beers/
I'm looking forward to a pint of party-approved Comrade Bill Bartram's Egalitarian Anti-Imperialistic Soviet Stout :)

I want a video of you saying that after 2 ofthem
I'm struggling to find Heineken on that list? I may have to cancel

There's a special tent for that, where you can hang out with the rest of the philistines.
So where we all meeting then?
Soonest I can get there is about 18:00 I guess.
I'll grab a bite to eat either on the way or at the festival.
Man down I'm afraid. I'll be unable to attend now. Sorry chaps :(
TL mentioned meet at 2:30 pm which seems a good time and then Ghost can catch up with us when he gets in or we can delay it by an hour or so. I assume we meet at the entrance or somewhere like that and exchange mobiles so we can contact each other.
I'm practising by drinking some German beers, ... currently on a smokebeer that tastes slightly bacon-y. I suspect I will still be on the aftertaste tomorrow morning...
Edit: I suspect the smokey aftertaste will remain for some time, necessitating the removal of the smiley face...

Once I'm in and got my pint glass I think I'll be heading to S50 to get a Cornish Pasty for my lunch and to soak up some of the incoming ale. I think it would be great if we could nail down some seating in that area too for the rest of the day (it's a long session if you are standing the whole time), so how the 2.30pm crowd aims to meet there by the S50 pasty stand which is in the side hall (on the left as you enter the main hall)? We could try to grab a table and some chairs perhaps before they are all gone.

I'd suggest GhostMjr gives us a call when he arrives and then we can let him know where we are in the hall at the time.
+1 for the pasty+chair plan
I like pasties. I also like chairs.
Can't see anything wrong with this plan.

Sounds good to me :D. I'll give you a call TL when I arrive. (I think I have your up to date number)
Seem to have been hit with some nasty bug or something so I'm looking doubtful for tomorrow, sorry.
Quote from: smilodon;374258Seem to have been hit with some nasty bug or something so I'm looking doubtful for tomorrow, sorry.
Time to man up, and kill it with beer.
See you there tomorrow folks.....
Sorry guys family thing has come up last minute, can't make it down tomorrow :(
Enjoy the beer :(
Oh and Tut, while we're talking beer... I checked out The Ginger Man in NY, a few times... it was the street up from my hotel. Incredible place... Cheers for the recommendation!!!
See everyone there at around S50, or post up on this forum where when you arrive, we'll then post where we are and hook up.
Have a great day on Friday, I'll be gagging for a pint around 2.00 if you want to have one for me.
In time honoured dMw tradition, I'll wander around asking people if they've seen Gandalf Lord Of Jelly.
Drinking trousers on, fake boobs on standby and the little goblin song practiced few times.
See you there

Hope you have fun guys.
Stuck at a client's near Tower Bridge and pretending to be working while idly fantasising about all those lovely ciders.
Have a great day.
Smilodon and I are now St the Cornish pastie stall next to the camera brewery shop and opposite B19 (the jolly brewer) in the side hall on the left as you you come in.

You lot have no idea how envious I am right now. Sitting in a taxi looking out at the rain, heading for Oslo airport hoping my waiting list spot for the 19:10 flight home opens up. If not, it's the 21:45... And no drinking since I have to drive when I get there :(
Go visit Stone Breweries in the yank lot and have one for me, will you?

Penfold has joined the beer hunt in search of ciders and perries. Beer map now plotted into Google maps and sat nav will guide us for the rest of the day.
Currently supping on an awesome session beer: Dorset Brewing Company's Dorset Knob. At the risk of being severely misquoted, it's the best thing I've had down my neck since boarding school........

@GBBF Alvin Stardust is on stage, old age is cruel and unforgiving.
Ghostmjr arrived fifteen minutes ago.
Ghostmjr had been lost and AWOL for ten minutes.
In the time that Ghostmjr has been missing we've bought five beers and a curry.
Beer is bad for your location-sensing abilities OK?

Strange beers are everywhere , often with crunchy bits in them. Inebriation is becoming a problem for the team, may not be able to send more messages.
Platform 2, London Olympia. TL signing off.
Great fun peeps, awesome company and even better real ale.

We ALL know that's not true.
Thanks for a great day chaps.
That was my first trip to the GBBF, and I'll be going back for more. Some fantastic beers, great company and a nice atmosphere - the mass cheers that went up around the main hall whenever a glass went down being a highlight :)

A great afternoon out! Which festival comes next? :D
The wishy washy incipid lager fest would be my suggestion. Or maybe the Latte and Cappuccino Con?
Great day lots of things to drink, some really nice and some almost undrinkable :)
Great Day.
Fun times had along with great beer and interesting eats. I will be going again for sure depending on the dates for next year.
