Title: Minecraft thievery and debauchery
Post by: Penfold on July 20, 2013, 08:16:49 PM
Chatting with Mega earlier. Seems someone stole his diamonds stash and a bed (!?).

He really helped us when we first started so the kids and I did a collection  and gave him 12 diamonds to help him restart but it's really unacceptable that it happened. (We only had 30 between us so couldn't do more).

One really shouldn't need to keep diamonds etc in an ender chest but it seems we still have a little troublemaker on screen.

Has anyone else noticed anything going awry?

NP but I have no idea why someone would take a bed? what's the rationale behind that?

That's really poor. Maybe allowing lots of players we don't know and who have no involvement with the forum ie friends of friends is a bad idea?

I'd simply suggest banning under 18's and anyone not an active member of the community but that would mean Mega himself wouldn't have access,  which hardly seems fair. . But it's scary to think so much hard work and effort on our projects and personal constructions could be wiped out by some idiot. I've no answer to the problem but maybe allowing kids onto a server unsupervised is just a bad idea. But then again it's grossly unfair on well behaved people regardless of age.

I just don't feel like coming onto the server and investing my time when I'm sharing it with the thieves. I'd suggest we post something about checking server lost but then I doubt the culprit uses the forum.

Alas all we can do is stick up a post and remind all that have been on to be careful.  I understand your point smilo and I have tried the guys that I have invited to join in on the fourms but I have been playing games with them for many years and trust them and know them in rl.

The issue also was that this was a while ago which I did highlight in a PM but I was unaware that diamonds where taken as well at the same time. which was a mistake, I have apologized to Mega and he seems to have taken it ok.

But we cant dp any logs yet due to bukit not being ready.  The most upsetting thing is that we have to even think about this :(

That's sad, again.   Might be worth bumping the rules again to remind people of consequences.

Didn't seem to work before so I don't imagine it will work this time either. I'd suggest running a second world where supporting members over 18 could play in confidence but I suspect that with the issues we've had running one server, running two would be impossible.

Make it clear, you thieve and you are banned from the server, along with the person who introduced you.

Toby,

Did you establish a time-line on this?

When we spoke with mega it seemed like a recent occurrence but you thought it may hark back longer?

Was this before or after the reapplication thing happened? (Not been playing too long so no sure of the timeline here).

It was on the 29th of June I sent out the pm letting others know and in that I only ref the pains of glass and the bed. As I was not aware of the diamonds.

I spoke to Mega just now and it does seem it was not recent, ie a month or more ago.    Like you I was under the impression it was recent, so it might even have been linked in to the earlier incident?

I believe it wasn't as I sent out the shitogram about rules and regs on the 9th of April.  The incident with Mega was reported to me around the 29th of June, my mistake about not understanding he had lost diamonds.  And I think it was brought up again recently with Pen.

The failure was with me in regards to not understanding.  But there is very little we can do. OB is looking in to using another API I will ask to see if he can see if there is a good logging or chest locking script.

Apart from those 2 I am at a lost of what we can do.  I am not a happy bunny.

I guess it just has to be managed or we reinvent MC with stricter rules about who can join. No easy solutions.

just a thought, could we perhaps add to the rules by saying you MUST put any diamonds or anything of high value in an ender chest as we can not garuantee that if they are in a normal chest that they wont go missing? we all have access to at least one. its a bit harsh and we shouldnt have to but it may stomp out any future losses for people at least.

Just a thought
