hmm i dont have permission to access this?
Crap. cos I put it in dmr members only....
Could an admin swap it somewhere so all can see?....
What the future holds....
So a lot of you knew of my reptile collections....well I only have the 1 now the crestie.
After month of research and investigation ive decided to go for to different types of monitor....
1st up...
Varanus salvadorii or as its commonly known, crocodile monitor....
These beasts are one of the largest monitors available with out having a DWA license. They range from 5-8foot. A huge enclosure is needed, they are very adept climbers regardless of their size.
The photo's im using have been given to me by a chap called Phillip who lives in Swindon who I will hopefully be working with on some breeding projects...

This pic is of Nasher having a climb and shows how large the enclosure is....Phil has 2 of these which are breeding and hoping to provide a clutch soon!
He has an outhouse which currently holds 8 species of reptile and about 18 in total.
As all reptiles the need to bask...Due to their length you need a platform with several high powered bulbs...

I love these as they look so prehistoric...

This is Nasher's claw against Phil's hand....

These are display creatures....you will never tame them down...They will put up with you to enter their space to clean but you must always keep an eye on them. They can use their tails as a whip, which will bruise and cut you. Possibly even breaking bones.
Next up is Varanus varius or the lace monitor...this is by far my favourite.
Not as chunky as the crocs but will get as big in length....These again are arboreal and requires lots of space...
Native to Australia these are very hard to source as its illegal to export them from there.
Im going to have to source 1 from either Germany or the States and they will be CB (captive bred ) so will generally be much healthier than a WC (wild caught) specimen. As they are rare I will be looking to pay somewhere in the region of £4-5000 for 1.
This is where im gona team up with Phil. We are not sure of the sex of his currently as its not that old, when we do know im going to get the opposite so we can then pair them up for breeding.
Then we will be the only people (AFAIK) breeding these in the UK...

It had just been moved to it's new enclosure and wasn't happy...all puffed up and very aggressive....

The video is Phil tong feeding and trying to get it used to Phil being in and around the enclosure. It is so fast....when its 6ft long and 35kg you don't want that surprising you!

Sorry as its not really W0W orientated but
