Title: Tournament Structure
Post by: TeaLeaf on December 14, 2003, 08:14:16 PM
dMw's Christmas Cracker is to be played on Sunday 28th December 2003 and will utilise all three of the dMw servers, MeatHook, Homer and Baldric for simultaneous matchplay.  The competition will allow each member the opportunity to dominate or capitulate in at least 4 matches, or 5 matches for the more successful teams.

Tournament Starts: 2.00pm GMT
Do not be late - it is your team mates who will suffer as the tournament *will* start on time.

Communication During Tournament - IRC
All announcements will be made via IRC during the tournament.  The Admins strongly recommend that you join the appropriate IRC channels to maintain good communication links between you, your team mates and the tournament organisers.  Please do not connect to channels where you don't belong!Details of who is in which team will be posted shortly and are subject to change.

Maps
Round 1 is to be played on de_trust.
Round  2 is to be played on de_winternuke.
Round 3 is to be played on de_museum.

Rules:
Each match will be CO Rules, 3 min rounds, 15 min max per side, FFon and fully non-TCS (in all other respects normal ED match rules & settings (http://www.enemydown.co.uk/rules.php?game=Counter-Strike) will apply).  The Admins suggest you understand what CO (Charge Only) Rules mean before the Tournament otherwise you may struggle!

Tournament Structure
The dMw Christmas Cracker will consist of six teams of five people.   The six teams will be split into two Conferences (Ghost Conference and Zombie Conference) with each Conference containing three teams.

Round 1- Three matches
The first part of the tournament will consist of each team playing its Conference opponents, i.e. two matches, plus one Inter-Conference match against a team from the other Conference.  The Conference Champions will be the teams with the best CO rules total score.

Round 2 - Knock-Out
For the top two teams in each Conference this is a knock out round.  Each Conference Champion will play the runner-up from the other Conference for a place in the Final.  In addition the third place teams from both Conferences will play each other for the right to be crowned Wooden Spoon Champion.

Round 3 - Tournament Finals
The Winner of each Semi-Final will meet each other in the dMw Christmas Cracker Bowl for the right to be crowned Tournament Champions.
The losing teams from each semi-final will play each other in the Consolation Bowl for 3rd and 4th places.
The two teams who played in the Wooden Spoon Bowl do not play in this round.

Match Schedule
The below war schedule will dictate who goes first as CT for each match (i.e. no knife round except for the Finals).

Scoring
Points are awarded based upon the number of CO rounds won. After the first two matches the total number of CO rounds won will be calculated.  With the exception of the Finals round where there will be a knife round to decide choice of T or CT, all other rounds will have the side you play first dictated by the match schedule notes.

In the event of two teams being tied the head to head match score will decide the winner.

If this does not decide the winner then the top individual frag scorers from each team as CT will be compared. The best CT frag score decides the winner.
If still tied the second best frag scorers are compared and so on. Failing that you'll have one knife round on the last map played to see who is the last man standing and therefore the winner.

- Each Squad MUST post take screenshots at the end of each half in case of a tie.
- CO scores MUST be posted in the Results Topic that will be opened for each squad on the day of the tournament.
- The Total Points for each Squad must be posted in the Topic Header so that all can see quickly who has scored what.
- A separate thread will be opened for dMw Christmas Cracker gossip and strutting.

Server Password
During the tournament the server password will be chcnged to 'dmwxmas'.

So no fooling around, if you charge 1 bs, keep charging it?

Charge Only (CO) means that the score only counts for the attacking team. So when you are on the attacking team it means that you should try and win as many rounds possible. When you are defending you should prevent the opponents to get any rounds.

For example on a de map you have the following

Team 1 (CT) - Team 2 (T)  18-4
Team 1 (T) - Team 2 (CT) 10-9

The final score would then be 10-4 (team 1 wins).

....in the time allowed.  You have a 15 minute opportunity to attack and score points - don't waste it!  Likewise, when defending it is good to waste as much time as possible in the round so as to force the Ts scoring time clock to be used up.  It can have some unusual tactical consequences!

Can I recommend we change this tourney to MR12 or something similar?  We had a tourny a few years ago on maps similar to these which was CO.  Where as MR12 has been more popular.  Where can we download these 3 maps too?
