In this topic I want all to share their config/setting tricks if you have any. Weapons fastswitch, changing crosshair colors, smart buy commands etc etc. We all benefit from this. :)
Me looks in JB's direction. :worship:
Paste the entire config.cfg line and tell what it does.
I resent that accusation !!
P.s I'll see what i can do. ;)
Firstly i'll post all the standard stuff like 'wait' shortcut's that just simply erm..wait a short time before executing the next movement.
alias w1 "wait"
alias w2 "w1; w1"
alias w3 "w1; w2"
alias w4 "w3; w1"
alias w10 " w4; w4; w2"
alias w30 "w10; w10; w10"
As i use the arrow keys for movement the little fingers sits on the CTRL key nicely and brings up the scope while ever it's pressed, letting go removes the scope and brings up the unzoomed weapon. (note that to rezoom quickly you must wait for the full animation of bringing up the gun and it being steady on screen or it just wont zoom)
// Sniper scopey, scope on while CTRL pressed
alias +sniperon "+attack2; w1; -attack2; -reload; stopsound"
alias -sniperon "weapon_knife; w2; lastinv"
bind ctrl +sniperon
+attack2 brings up the scope, the -reload is there because in the past i used to get problem where guns would fire 1 bullet then reload ALL the time so i added a -reload to remove that, the stop sound is there just because its easier than typing it in and saves reaching across for another key.
I use keypad 1 key to swap between main weapon and pistol.(kp_end key)
// Primary/seconday switch
bind kp_end prisec2
alias prisec1 "slot1; bind kp_end prisec2"
alias prisec2 "slot2; bind kp_end prisec1"
Self explanatory that one, slot 1 brings up errm.. pistol i think, slot 2 brings up rifle.
Wierd people use the mouse wheel to scroll between weapons, but having a Ms intellimouse i find it scrolls too far too easily, so instead i have the mouse wheel turn down my volume in cs incase the phone goes or anything. :)
// Volume on mouse wheel
volume "0.8"
bind MWHEELDOWN "VDown"
bind MWHEELUP "VUp"
alias VUp "Vol9"
alias VDown "vol7"
alias vol1 "volume 0.1; wait; alias VUp vol2; alias VDown vol1"
alias vol2 "volume 0.2; wait; alias VUp vol3; alias VDown vol1"
alias vol3 "volume 0.3; wait; alias VUp vol4; alias VDown vol2"
alias vol4 "volume 0.4; wait; alias VUp vol5; alias VDown vol3"
alias vol5 "volume 0.5; wait; alias VUp vol6; alias VDown vol4"
alias vol6 "volume 0.6; wait; alias VUp vol7; alias VDown vol5"
alias vol7 "volume 0.7; wait; alias VUp vol8; alias VDown vol6"
alias vol8 "volume 0.8; wait; alias VUp vol9; alias VDown vol7"
alias vol9 "volume 0.9; wait; alias VUp vol10; alias VDown vol8"
alias vol10 "volume 1.0; wait; alias VUp vol10; alias VDown vol9"
The console command for volume is just that 'volume' and accepts anything from 0.0 (off) to 1.0 (full)
The infamous Disco X-hair !!
// Flash X-hair when walk
alias +upflash "+forward; adjust_crosshair; slot10"
alias -upflash "-forward; adjust_crosshair"
alias +downflash "+back; adjust_crosshair"
alias -downflash "-back; adjust_crosshair"
alias +leftflash "+moveleft; adjust_crosshair"
alias -leftflash "-moveleft; adjust_crosshair"
alias +rightflash "+moveright; adjust_crosshair"
alias -rightflash "-moveright; adjust_crosshair"
bind "UPARROW" "+upflash"
bind "DOWNARROW" "+downflash"
bind "LEFTARROW" "+leftflash"
bind "RIGHTARROW" "+rightflash"
Obviously i use cursor keys to move left, right , etc. So if you wanna change keys then change the UPARROW etc so something more appropriate.
DODGY thing alert !! woo.. woooo... DODGY thing alert !!
To do a fast 180 degree tun press kp_home (no.7 on number pad)
// 180 quick turn <---bit dodgy
alias fast_turn "fps_max 0;cl_yawspeed 3600;wait;+left;wait;-left;wait;+left;wait;-left;wait;fps_max 100;cl_yawspeed 210"
bind kp_home fast_turn
Got this from Bob's scripting bunker, a great CS scripting site that sadly seems to not be updated anymore. :(
Thats about it really apart from these ive just got the odd little helping stuff like the following.
//snapshot wonid's
alias wonidshot "scr_conspeed 9999; clear; toggleconsole; status; w30; snapshot; w30; toggleconsole"
bind s wonidshot
Just basically brings down the console, clears it and and takes a picture of wonid's on the server.
Last one gets a bit annoying on hostage maps as it tends to shoot at hostages sometimes and can also leave you without a gun when it brings up the knife.
// Bomb planter/defuser
alias +enterkey "+use; w1; weapon_c4; w10; +attack;"
alias -enterkey "-use; -attack; w1; lastinv"
bind enter +enterkey
This will defuse/plant a bomb until you release the key when it will brings back up your primary weapon, good for planting in a hot bombsite when their may be enemy's nearby.
Missed one.
Bit hard to comprhend this one really, but i'll try my best. In essence it's a quick switch script for firing a single bullet from awp/scout and then bringing up the pistol and comes complete with a key to disable the fast switching.(Insert)
// Swap to deagle after firing awp/scout, scope up while CTRL pressed, keep fire pressed after firing sniper to bring up pistol
// release CTRL and scope clears and leave sniper in hand. <---proud bit of scripting
// insert key toggles CTRL key between this and normal sniping above a bit.
alias +sniperon2 "+attack2; w1; -attack2; -reload; stopsound; w1; bind mouse1 +snidea"
alias -sniperon2 "weapon_knife; w2; slot1; bind mouse1 +disco"
alias +snidea "+attack; w10; slot2; w10; bind mouse1 +snidea2"
alias -snidea "-attack;"
alias +snidea2 "+attack"
alias -snidea2 "-attack"
bind ins snideaon
alias snideaon snidea1
alias snidea1 "bind ctrl +sniperon2; dev1; echo sniper/deagle on; play sound/misc/talk.wav; dev0; alias snideaon snidea0"
alias snidea0 " dev1; echo Sniper/Deagle off; dev0;bind ctrl +sniperon;; w2; bind mouse1 +disco; w2; alias snideaon snidea1"
Hold CTRL to bring up the zoom crosshair, now firing your gun and keeping hold of CTRL will bring up the pistol and keep it there for firing UNTIL you finally let go of CTRL at which point it'll bring back up the sniper. So therefore to fire the awp again you'll need to fire once. let go of CTRL, wait for awp to pop back up(fully) and then press CTRL again. Phew....
By the way having all these things there does NOT mean i use them AT ALL. It just means that in the past i've had some time and decided to see what i could do to tax my brain.
Ty JB for all the posts.
Question. Is it possible to bind the quick weapon switch to "next weapon" and "previous weapon" so that the switch is quick irrespectively to if it is a knife/nade/gun1/gun2?
It is possible by all means, but would also mean that you'd ahve to script it and add a "+attack; wait; -attack" after each keypress otherwise it will just select the wepaon and you'd have to press fire for the weapon to be brought to use. "Hud _fastswitch 1" would not help here. Also i just flip between primary and secondary as i use mouse buttons 4 and 5 for grenades and knife (with stab on not slash).

alias next "invnext; +attack; wait; -attack"
alias prev "invprev; +attack; wait; -attack"
bind "e" next
bind "q" prev
It works!!! :D
So i'm the only one that uses any scripts of any sort then? <_<
yes

I use the RzE buyscript but I haven't tweaked it at all. I think you covered most things in your post JB. :thumb:
I,m also a fan of Rze,s script.
All I would like is something to keep my crosshair up at head height.
Oh aye and something to stop the shakes.
OH and Auto aim would be handy along with a Team mate bullet dodge script.
(only been killed by my own side 7 times this week)
SLoWHaND
I use the rze buyscript only for quick buing/radio commands dont use any of those shoot one shot from scout then go to pistol, i just do it with my quick switch key. I guess if i wanted too i could put a dot in the middle of my screen but ill reframe from it ;) .
Sigh....
Hehe quilty something getting at you jb ;)
Was gonna ask you how to bind certain keys to increase brightness and contrast in cs is it possible because on certain maps ie train there are many black spots and you need a little more light....
Does any1 know the easier way to mute some1 one either then pressing esc etc?
You can't change either 'brightness' or 'gamma' while in game as they require you to restart or reconnect to the server(i forget which)
No to the second one either, it may be possible if there was a console command to ban someone's voice as this could be combined with a 'messagemode', but afaik there isn't a console commands so your stuck.
:D
To Alter gamma ingame without restarting you need a programme called POWERSTRIP.
Just a 3 finger stab on the keyboard lets you alter it. CTRL ALT + or - takes the gamma up or down. Just a simple adjustment at the start of each map depending on the darkness it.
Now you know how people see you lurking in the shadows.

......maps ie train there are many black spots and you need a little more light....
Is that in the spirit of the game? If there is a dark hidey hole to sit in shouldn't it be just that, a dark hidey hole? Why bother having maps at all, lets all stand in a big open field and blast away at each other! The more I think about it the more distasteful it becomes. Someone on Italy last night suggested quietening the radio by mean of 'sound_somebloody_thing 0 instead of shooting it!
Jeez!
The question was can u bind a key to gamma in CS well the answer is no.
But POWERSTRIP is a programme that u run at the same time as CS or any other application and it alters the gamma level of the monitor I believe.
I have to be honest and say that I used to use this tool but it does spoil the effects created on a lot of maps.
It was something that was recomended along with a patch called idgamma 1 or something similar in the past when some graphics cards showed a really dark screen no matter how much you turned up the brightness.
Since my brief fling with map making I ditched it realising that some dude had gone to a lot of effort in creating the scenery.
As to the spirit of the game ............I dunno.
But one thing I do know is that it isnt detected by a damn thing.

I actually suffer badly on Train from shadows. the whole map is way too dark. And by dark I mean darker than the designer ever planned it to be. I can't see anything at all in the covered area behind the outside bomb plant. And inside around the trains is worse. I know how Train is supposed to look as I've seen it on other PC's and it was never an issue before a recent driver upgrade/steam re-install. So that patch would be nice ?
As to scripts I don't see how anyone can live without a fast hud switch (except you good players of course). I use RZe and JB's scope script is now oin my system. Which is pointless as I can't snipe for sh*t, script or otherwise ;)
