Title: Unofficial Supported Games List
Post by: Sky on September 26, 2013, 09:51:44 PM
Hi Everyone,

I will be attending this years Lan, and DrunkenZombiee and I have come up with an idea to host our own little "unofficial supported games list". This would be an unofficial addition to the Official supported games list. We aim to extend the list by providing a more retro gaming experience, taking the audience back in to the 1980-1990's with Sega, Nintendo, NeoGeo emulation 2-4 player games. We will also be throwing in a handful of old PC games such as Open TTD a remake of Transport Tycoon Deluxe, Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun & Red Alert, etc.

We are open to suggestion so please by all means give us some ideas and we will try and bring this to the table at the Lan.

I look forwards to seeing you all there :byebye:

Cheers

Tutonic - Looks like I best get shopping :flirty: (Of course I am not being serious! I don't want people expecting me to dress like Screech from Saved By the Bell)

JanuZ - Holy crap that looks complicated! Would be pretty awesome if we could pull that off

Mhhm, reminds me that around Christmas I want to hold an Retro gaming LAN at my place.
Got my old Atari 1040STFM here now and my m8 is bringing some other old gamesystems.

Anyway, I'll see what I can come up with and might join.

Any change off a Carmageddon game versus each other? The new game seems to be coming out beginning next year!

I am not bringing my retro gaming collection we are going to emulate where possible.

If not we will need half of the room to set up in.

Yeah sure, which platform did you want Carmageddon on? Our aim is to try and make this as fluid as possible so it'll ideally be all emulated and we will be making use of Netplay to play across machines via TCP/IP. DZ and I will be doing a bit of testing beforehand just to make sure it all works :)

For instance last night we had a later version of Kega Fusion which kept on getting out of Sync, we reverted to a previous version that worked.

Let me know what version of Carmageddon and I can hunt for it :g:

Carmageddon is a MS-DOS game so DOSBox and the game files should be all that is needed. Shouldn't be hard to find as abandonware or maybe someone has the original game somewhere.

After some searching I found this (http://www.gog.com/game/carmageddon_max_pack) new OS compatible release for 10$

What I meant was:

Series   Carmageddon
Engine   BRender
Platform(s)   MS-DOS, Windows, Mac OS, PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Color, iOS, Android

Was hoping DuVeL could pick one

There will be differences on each console so for example if it was PSX or N64 we could get the correct edition and again play it over NetPlay, this fortunately takes the cost out of the equation. (Not trying to be awkward)

Important thing to know about the Carmageddon series is that only Carmageddon and Carmageddon 2 were good and only on the PC. Playstation magazine gave the game 3/10 in rating and N64 Magazine gave the game 8% rating. Also N64 and PS versions only support split-screen play not network play while the PC version supports up to 6 players.

DosBox does LAN but its over IPX which is an issue for us.

Not sure if there is a way round this.

Nice idea. I suggest the Manic Miner Challenge anyone who can make it through Eugene's Lair will get a pickled egg!

Hi Guys,

We aren't too far away now from the LAN, looking forwards to it :). I just wanted to give you an update of what I've got my hands on so far (mostly Tried & Tested over tcp/ip):

Megadrive:
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker
Micro Machines '96
Micro Machines 2 - Turbo Tournament
Micro Machines
Sonic and Knuckles & Sonic 2
Sonic and Knuckles & Sonic 3
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Streets of Rage
Streets of Rage 2
Streets of Rage 3

32x (not tested over TCP/IP):
Mortal Kombat II
Virtua Fighter
Virtua Racing Deluxe

NeoGeo:
Final Fight
Last Blade 1
Last Blade 2
Metal Slug 1 - 5, X (Sorry no 6)

We also have something called "Magic Sword - Heroic Fantasy" which I only obtained because the file name said MSWORD.ZIP :lmfao:

I've also got hold of DuVeL + JanuZ's Carmageddon on PC (DOSBOX)
and
albert's Manic Miner on C64

Note that we will have to setup IPX/SPX according to DOS Wiki for Carmageddon:

http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Connectivity

I dont mind being the middle man for hosting the IPX/SPX Server.

Please let me know if you have any further requests before the LAN, the more games the better ;)

Cheers!

Sky

Update:
I have sorted out DOSBOX for IPX/SPX with Batch Files, should be easy enough for us to do now. The IPX/SPX emulation is done over the TCP/IP layer so you don't have worry about modifying your NIC interface to support the protocol either.

(simply put, it all should work and not be a pain to set up!)
