Post by: Dingo on October 20, 2013, 02:51:44 AM
Huzzar!!!!!!r.....yes, I like to make an entrance.....(Hi Greg!!),

So, debating....should I go Modern with camera's that think and feel for you, take away the feeling of her velvet skin stretched rigidly across the length of the bed, the smell of her,  post coitus, sights and sounds that cannot be captured........ or should I....buck the trend....go retro "The Land that time forgot" ........the 35mm DSLR film camera.....can lovemaking, and more importantly....the Survival of the Iconic K1000.....ever justify the cost of exhorbitant  film prices these days in a digital world!!

Depends on if you are a learner or not as they are great to learn on. As 35mm cameras are full frame they are a pretty cheap way to learn compared to their DSLR £2000+ alternatives.

If you are going for a cropped camera you can get something really decent for about £300 these days which isn't that much film + processing if you shoot a lot.

Bless you DZ.......yes, I am a "newbie" but I just purchased a K1000, plus three lenses, plus a 2x adapter, plus Cokin filter, plus three additional filters and a flashlight for the exhorbitant price of £60!!

I have done loads of meticulous research, read hundreds of reviews and cross-referenced every article I could find for the last three months....................and Really want the K30!!!!

I will learn to ride my bike on the K1000.....hopefully can use the wonderful lenses I have, and eventually achieve my photographic goal.........................WORLD DOMINATION and DEATH to ALL Dissenters!!

Ah, Photography.....such a gentle art!!  :)

Any reason in particular for a Pentax camera? The are cheap for their build but they have a limited range of lenses and accessories compared to other brands.

The K30 is a crop (APS-C) and is smaller than your full frame 35mm camera in terms of sensor/film size. This means its inferior in terms of the amount of light and will have more noise then the equivalent sensor generation in full frame form. It therefore can be a little harder to isolate a subject as you get less bookeh from a lens. However it has the benefits on the telephoto end (a 100mm lens becomes a 150mm lens) and you can get cheaper and lighter lenses made from less glass =).

Full frame :
Great for low light as good noise performance generally
More bookeh with the same lens than crop
More light enabling higher shutter speeds than crop (great for sports etc)
Expensive

Crop :
Smaller and lighter camera and lenses
The same lens gets a boost in magnification compared to the Full frame. A lot of twitchers use crop.
Less DoF so better for Macro photography
Cheap

I am an APS-C guy and I think I always will be as I like the trade-off of size and weight and price.
