As reported here, Windows Rt 8.1 isnt very good, im assuming this will affect tablets only...hopefully none of the code was used in desktops

Windows RT uses a completely different code as their arm based.
Probably unrelated, but I got a notice to update my nvidia software (think it was R331?) yesterday and post install my screen was juddering slightly from left to right. Put the PC to sleep last night and it was the same this morning so I decided to do a reboot which I had not done yesterday. On shut down I got the message from windows 8 that:
Operations are in progress, please wait.
The machine will be turned off automatically after the operations are complete.
It's been showing that message now for the last 30 minutes and I'm wondering if the windows 8 install downloaded and borked my PC by itself.
Anyone else seen similar?

as mentioned in the other thread i have had several
1) IE is borked
2) Gfx set to 3d mode
3) Avast was uninstalled
4) Bluetooth and wireless (which i had disabled) was enabled
5) password required to login that i cant remove (never used one)
6) the abundance of updates since
7) more steam games dont work that did under 8.0....ie ghostbusters and lego batman are the latest and vanilla arma 2!!!
8) And i had to reinstall fsx and the 60 gigs of add ons!!! cause it crashed constantly where as it was about once a week before
more to follow im sure
still on 3.24 drivers was going to try betas which were 3.3ish...think i leave it, thx for the heads up, sorry for the pain involved
Interesting, it seems my W8 machine just hung during the shutdown part of the install. After leaving it for a couple of hours I just hard powered the PC off and then did a cold reboot and it was fine, no error reports and nothing untoward.
Also on 8.1, after the obligatory half dozen reboots. No issues, no problems, all my Steam games work fine, AV (Kaspersky) is ok. Pretty underwhelmed by the update. A few nice tweaks but nothing amazing in the new patch.

The mind boggles as to how they packaged so little into a 3.6GB download....
