We talked about these at the LAN But I really can't remember what you chaps were recommending.
if you were going to buy a new gaming laptop what would you go for?
Just make sure it's got a decent network card this time Pen ;)
Albert's laptop looked pretty damn good, I'm sure he'll be along shortly to enlighten...
Ragnah had a Republic of gaming one which was pretty cool. I think it caught TL eye

like TL i still love the ASUS gaming laptop (N55SF) that we both bought (separately before anyone starts anything). And if i was going to buy another one i would stay with the same brand

Thanks but there was one in particular that he showed me. something to do with a chipset or something. Anyway, I'm sure he'll give me a nudge when he sees the thread :)
The above link for Asus lists the Asus ROG G750 range, the G750JH is the one with the most powerful graphics (GTX780M), I think Ragnarh had the G750JW which at the time was the second best in the range but with the launch of the 780M in the G750JH is now the third best. All the G750s run with the H87M chipset. Assuming nothing happens between now and the next LAN then that's the one I will be aming to replace my current N55 with as much as I like the N55, it's really not a gaming powerhouse.

Thanks.
That's the baby but 2k, cricky!
I may curtain my ambitions somewhat lol or what to see if it comes done when it becomes more available in the UK.
What I'd really love is the ability like these to have 2xHDD but in in a 15.6" lappie. That way one SSD for the operating system and a larger sta one for my work information.
Prices come down as you cut the graphics a bit.
G750JH (graphics=780M) - £1,839
G750JX (graphics=770M) - c.£1,300
G750JW (graphics=765M) - c£1,050
Thanks.
I presume that any of the above would run our complement of games pretty easily?

Pretty much yes. There are other small variances in the spec of each, but that's the gfx range.
[h=1]ASUS G750JX 17.3" Full HD[/h][h=2]GeForce GTX 770M,Core i7-4700HQ,16GB RAM,256GB SSD,750GB HDD,DVD±RW,Windows 8[/h]The one I used at the LAN.
OK blow it, I'll get one of these then. I really like the fact it's got 2 HDD's (I like splitting the op system off the from huge amounts of work data I have). I also think the extra size would be useful for design work and I mostly drive to clients so the weight isn't a major issue.
Just a case of finding one now I guess as they seem hard to come by.
You need a big bright screen to show off all those fabulous looking photographs you have ;-)
Looks like a very nice bit of kit.

I'll second the "hard to find" attribute - I tried to find a powerful Asus when I was last hunting a laptop, but I eventually gave up - scan.co.uk sales guy couldn't source any either so not just me! Where did those of you that own them get them from?
Several websites have them at the moment, so I'm not sure what the problem is in sourcing them. At that end of the market you have to accept lower volume due to the nature of the product, it's never going to be a high volume item, so there will be fewer suppliers and less stock out there. That having been said, I'm still going for the Asus when I bite the bullet and replace my current N55, I loved Ragnarh's laptop and the several I have seen in the past 6 months were seriously top quality.
Simplyasus has 2 of the 3 models of G750 in stock (not the JH top of the range)
Laptopsdirect is listing all 3 available
BT Business Direct 1 in stock, 2 ordered in on request
Bizarrely, given their retail products and reputation, I've found some really good deals via the BT offering in the past 18 months and ended up buying several things from them.
Aye a few sites have them but it's finding the right spec. The one's I've seen don't have the combination of Ram(16gb) and two HDD's I'm looking for (256GB SSD and 1TB Sata).
I'll check out the sites you've suggested -thanks!
RAM can usually be changed, as can HDDs, it's worth calling and asking!
Never dealt with these before, but isn't this the spec you wanted?

Or if you meant you were going for the top end one, then try the better known Asuslaptop.co.uk which lists the G750JH-T4106H as in stock and ready to ship:
http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/Asus_G750JH-T4106H_Laptop/Gaming+Powerhouse/Asus+laptops/d
or. try this JX again, but ask them to customise the RAM and HDDs (their website says you can):
http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/Asus_G750JX-T4199H_Laptop/Gaming+Powerhouse/Asus+laptops/d
I bought my ASUS G75V last year from http://www.xoticpc.com/index.html though I am not sure if they ship internationally since I shipped it to my parents house in Seattle. But I think they ship internationally but only accept bank transfer as payment for international customers.
Thanks and ordered.
By the time I added the SSD and the extra Ram to the JX it wasn't that far off the price of the JH which had it as standard so I ordered it from the BT Direct site.

Thanks for all the help chaps.
That's an excellent laptop Pen, I'm sure you're going to be stoked with its performance.
Better be - it's going to have to last me for a while lol.
