When I started watching this, it turned into something I wasn't quite expecting:

good lord I see what you mean... I'm certainly interested. Survival horror seems to be having a glorious comeback at the moment, and I couldn't be happier. Will check this out for sure.

Scared the bejesus out of me when that thing jumped at him in the cave. Nice happy place in the daylight, Minecraft on steroids at night. I think I like it.

Ah, nothing more therapeutic than chopping down a tree. Ah, now he's making a little bonfire...wait...was that...no...ok, well now I see what you mean. The game looks great. Perhaps like a minecraft like game...build during the day, survive at night? Obviously with different aims graphically.

It says it's designed for Oculus rift. I will definitely be getting one of those, and if this game is *the* game to show off forest environments with that technology, I'll get it. The only down side is, if you soil yourself in Oculus rift, you soil yourself in real life.

Ahh, Oculus rift.... seems a new dimension in horror games will soon be unleashed on all http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/201156/Behind_that_terrifying_Oculus_Rift_horror_game.php

I'm currently loving Sir You Are Being Hunted which is a more humorous but quite scary survival game, and this looks like somethimng in the same vein although with superior graphics. I've always loved the slower stealthy sneaky type game as opposed to a mad run and gun FPS. Will certainly keep an eye on it. Anything with multiplayer/co-op would certainly be interesting from a dMw community view.

Had a brief go at it this evening, it looks very nice, you don't get enough resources to fight, so it's stealth all the way. Seems like it will come along with some rather tactical resources to take out the hunters. 750Mb, shows good looking games don't need to be 10GB.

It's on 33% off special this weekend. 6 months + down the line it has a Very Positive review summary and nearly 20,000 reviews.

Plane crashed.
Pass out.
Wake up.
Naked man steals child.
Pass out, again.
Wake up, again.
Search plane.
Phone shows how many steps I take.
Find Axe.
Jump out of plane.
Pass out, again.
Wake up again, in a cave.
Two man mutant being with 8 legs next to me.
Trip the ♥♥♥♥ out.
Run away.
Turn lighter on.
Can see nothing.
Fear for life.
Find light to the surface.
Leads to beach.
See seagulls on beach.
Hack seagulls to pieces.
Collect floating feathers.
Find suitcases on shore.
Smash them open.
Find shark.
Shark flails wildly when I run through it.
See naked man running at me down the beach.
Trip the ♥♥♥♥ out.
Confused.
Violence building up inside me.
Charge the naked man.
Naked man charges back.
Both stop 10 feet from eachother.
Stare into the naked mans eyes.
Naked man stares back.
Confused.
I hit naked man with axe.
He swings wildly in anger.
Hit him again, getting two of his teeth.
He falls back from the axe swing.
Charge him to kill him.
He hits me with his bare hands.
I die.

Days survived Zero.

10/10 - Ready for the naked men.

Did you say naked men? I'm in.

Just bought, will try tonight whilst Corrie's on. Although Corrie has some pretty scary storylines at the moment. The Rovers ran out of bitter last week.

I was pretty underwhelmed when I bought it. The physics was way off, with logs that rolled for miles and objects you could throw for hundreds of yards. The AI was buggy as well. It seems reasonable that much of this should be fixed by now so I'll take another look.

Oh great, you roll in here and tell me the shiny new thing I just bought is actually a lump of un-polished coal. Go on, you might as well tell me who shot JR you beast.

To be fair most of us tried it a year ago. I'm optimistic :)

I can donate a copy of Sir, You're Being Hunted Benny, that's rather interesting.

Goddam bald freakshows came at me during the day when I wasn't ready. 1 day, 1 log cabin and 2 dead rats later. I'm going back in.....

Ok, ok, I added the game to the library.   Looking forward to throwing logs hundreds of yards, that's what I bought the game for really, the superman experience.  That and the un-polished coal.

Glad you're enjoying it.

Reinstalled this last week, my whelmed is still fairly under. Maybe these survival sims just aren't for me. Either I'm mobbed by looney cannibals on day one or I die of boredom. Either way there's always something else I'd rather be playing so it back in my uninstalled Steam games pile.

Whilst I'm bumping old posts I have the pleasure of coming across another glum Smilo survival game comment. Awesome.

So onto my primary reason for posting. OB and I got together and played this on Friday in Co-op mode. We build a log cabin, got attacked, did pretty well, made a few things, and are setting up a nice little base area.

I imagine we will shortly go off and try and explore a bit, probably in daylight.

My feeling on this game is it is a survival game, in EA but unlike most other survival games has a story and a purpose other than grinding and building, and not dying.

It still looks great, and has a very logical learning curve, the inventory and crafting are intuitive, the natives who like to attack you are varied in their aggression and attack type. I like this game, with 3 or 4 people it will be great fun exploring.

Albert, I'm glad you enjoy the Forest good for you. I don't though, I think it's a poor game. We're of course both entitled to an opinion. What we're also entitled to is to be free to express that opinion without snarky comments.

As Forum Admin I'm tasked with making sure these forums remain a pleasant and friendly place to come and discuss all manner of topics be that games, Twitch Channels or whatever. Where we disagree we will remain courteous and friendly. We certainly will NOT be banding about criticism and engaging in snarky comments. That road just leads to a forum ban and no one wants that.

I've only played the Forest solo and it's not very forgiving. Also it just seems to be a resource gathering and building game. Some find that fine, others find it a grind. Each to their own. It's odd because I really loved Minecraft and that had no content as such, just a world to explore and build. But there was something endearing about the little blocky world that I think a lot of Survival games lack. Arc has it's Dinosaures but too may of this genre just have a procedurally generated world, a resource gathering and building mechanic and some sort of antagonist be that zombies, cannibals or whatever. It seems a bit 'gaming light'.

I also worry, and I'm not alone in this, that the Indie/Steam early access model is ripe for abuse. It's not that much of a stretch to imagine a small group of developers starting a survival game with:

first person only (no main character required)

procedural generation (no world building required)

gathering - building (no infrastructure required)

spawned AI zombies/monsters (no NPC characters required)

continue without end (no plot or story required)

call it early access and sit back and take the money.

There are a lot of games sitting in early access and not so many of them have have so far launched as full games. Obviously a lot of these games are being made with the best intentions and for small indie developers without a big budget it can often be the only way to develop a game. However I do think it would be very naive to think none were just dressed up cash cows that will never be finished. The concern is how to work out which are genuine and which are not.

Caveat Emptor

Hey Smilo, All I can say is back in 2015 I found it a tough game solo and if you can't survive you can't enjoy the story. It's over a year since you last tried it, perhaps join OB and I and we can play it together and it might be more like you wished for first time out. These games change a lot over time.
Cheers,
Bert

Hi OB,

So just copying your Slot1 MP files into my folder worked. Sort of.. if I want to play as your character. I'll look into how I can play as my character today. Either way the actual character has little relevance in this game as there are not ranks or account bound items. Technically I could just play as you and build a few things and then upload the profile to Google.
Cheers,
Bert
