Title: Assetto Corsa
Post by: Deetz on November 16, 2013, 12:40:50 PM
Anyone tried the Assetto Corsa Beta?

A little pricey £29.99 for a beta, but that gets you the full game when it arrives, so not so bad.

I have to say its excellent, some cars fell better than others and still a few little bugs around, but when its working well, I haven't felt better physics.

A pitty there is no online racing available yet.

Personal favourite at the Moment is the BMW M3 E90 round Imola, fantastic. Not the quickest car, but it shows the physics off really well.
Current best of a 2:19:293 with more to come.

Let me know what you think :D

As you can see from the Assetto Corsa News thread in the Netkar forum, At least Seany and me have got it.
(Maybe som Admin can rename the Netkar forum to Assetto Corsa?)

I also think this is sim has the best feel available. I cant wait until we get multiplayer…
The only thing I am afraid of is Kunos's trackrecord of letting me (and others) down.
As it is now, I'm positive optimist, I hope he pulls it off.

Lol, I didnt even think of looking in the NetKar section, should have done I suppose, both being Kunos titles.

I thought some of the guys would have this, as I remember it being chatted about the last time I was on LFS.

Yes, still a bit buggy, but it still a beta. Hopefully we wont have the gaping holes in development that occurred with NetKar Pro, but so far generally I'm impressed.

Kunos Sims always have excellent force feedback, and this is no exception, I love the physics and feel of the suspension travel, weight transfer, grip loss as a wheel pops into the air etc. :norty:

:D

Yeah that M3 E90 is a lot of fun. When I tried it around Magione, it was the first time in a sim where I have felt the urge to get the tail out and do some drifting ( err I mean Power Sliding :) ).  It just feels so good, the weight transfer and the loss of grip.

I recommend try out the KTM X-bow at Imola, this is a lot of fun. My best time is a 2:09:3, slow, but some thing to aim for :)

Can't wait to race these cars with you guys online!

Of course, when I say said E90 , I obviously really meant E30.

The X-now, well its quick, but I'm not so keen on the super short power band. Personal preference I suppose.
Imola X-Bow PB = 2:02:964

Come on Seany, I'm sure you can crack that.

Yes indeed, I cant wait to race you guys online.
Unfortunately I can only manage a few laps a time, before my Arthritic joints want to explode, but I'm sure it will be worth the effort.

All the best Deetz.

Ahh I thought you meant the modern E92 M3, that thing makes you drive like a hooligan (power slides) :D.

I like E30 M3 too. I think it is one of the best looking saloon cars of the 80s, I'm looking forward to the Touring car version of this!

2:02 - only 6 seconds off your pace Deetz, that sounds about right :D .. I'll do some more laps and see what I can do!

Lol, succinct and to the point. :narnar:

Not that I'm a huge fan of the X-Bow, but that combo looks like being the unofficial offline combo of the.... week.

Who can better Voblers 1:59.4, the gauntlet has been thrown down... :boxing:

And on the subject, that M3 E92 is the best I've ever felt in a sim. And this (blasphemy ?) includes LFS.. :)

LOL,  as for 'being easy', the best I've been able to manage is a 1.59.8
mutter mutter.

Ok, the X-Bow is growing on me, with so many gear changes though, I keep banging into the gate (4th gear on a G25 shifter, Grr)

Still I'm having fun, Vobler just had to rub it in going even faster, :ranting2:  (nice one mate) I think I could maybe match it on a perfect lap, but I haven't managed one yet. Still, it gives me a nice target to aim for, even if the target just moved further away..

As for the E92, yep its a blast, I'm always swearing at it though, when the weight transfer catches me out, (yet again) you can really feel the weight in the car, as well as enjoying the power.....excellent stuff.

Cheers Ben for waving your admin wand in the right direction.

Luchian, there is nothing to join, I just thought I'd try to re-kindle the racing juices with this very promising game, if you can beat Vobler's time, post it up and we can have a bash at beating it.:narnar:

Title: FPS tips
Post by: vobler on November 26, 2013, 09:31:22 PM
I just wanted to say a little bit about how to sqeeze out a few more fps from Assetto Corsa.

There is a bug in the Anisotropic Filtering. It eats frames per second....
By going from 16 to 4 AF I went from 80 to 120 fps on my GTX770, and tripples. Going even lower is possible if need be.

Two more things,
in the dx11.ini (same as I posted to Bob) there is a MIPMAP setting. Setting this to 0 gains a few fps too.
While you are there change the Frame latency setting from 0 (default) to 1. This minimized lag.

Hope this helps someone.
Title: Head movement tips
Post by: vobler on November 28, 2013, 09:11:13 AM
If you think the onboard camera is too connected to the car and want it looser like iRacing, you can change this
in the camera_onboard.ini file

[GFORCES]
MIX=-0.002,-0.0110,-0.0025
LAG=0.8

Just increase the second value.

Not perfect, but it is better for me.

For me a racing game needs, opponents, AC is probably 1 year from that..I have that in LFS. Hot lapping is not for me. Like playing music alone.

I don't want to start anything, but I guess most people in to Sims knows what AC is. It is a Next Generation Sim in Beta (not finished), as pCars, Rfactor2, R3E are in beta.

Where do you get the information that AC is 1 year from multiplayer?

I have a new PC with i5 Haswell at 4.2ghz and a gtx 770 and a tripple screen setup. Look here for requirements, http://www.assettocorsa.net/hw-sw-requirements/ I do not think your graphics card is compatible with this. But it might be able to run in a 10.0 "compatible" mode. Look for a message from me to Lameduck about how to edit a config file. It still will be a gamble regarding performance and future compability.

I'm just a big cynic, I hope they do get it right and allow servers from the users instead of just their own.

If you got NetKar Pro at release in 2006 like me, you have every right to be sceptic. I am, but I and many with me have had it now a couple of weeks, and there is not many people that think it is bad. In fact most people think it is the best sim ever so far.

There is still things that can go bad, but even if the multiplayer and AI is halfway decent. I think it will be a great success. Maybe not as a hardcore sim, but as a general driving sim that every one can use. I think it's moddability will just add to its longevity. And yes, it will be up to the communities to set up the servers, like it was in NKP.

Well its got me hooked, having just bitten the bullet and ordered a Nvidia GT640 to replace my 5 year old 9800GT.
It gives very realistic handling, especially on weight transfer on the big saloons and the KTM was a delight,
The thing that grabbed me the most was ripping around the 1967 Monza circuit in the 1967 Type 49 Lotus F1 .:D:D:D
Nothing like it!!!

Thats what I have (+4gb ram) and it wont run the app. Voblers mod allowed me to run at a good frame rate but  the graphical quality was cr**, but the sim was good enough
for me to invest £78 on an EVGA GEforce GT646 2GB GDDR3 down your neck of the woods from Novatech.

New graphics card fitted today, and found the install totally painless. :) Very surprised to see how much smaller  it was than the 9800GT I replaced. Did not require a separate power feed and runs very quietly.
It delivered Assetto Corsa fantastically well. Can now run DirectX11 ( after remembering to change the mod that Vobler suggested back to original settings ) and AC is totally different.
I need to experiment with AA and shadow settings to suit my ancient eyes but otherwise v.pleased with the card.:woot2:

Now to attack those lap times :racing:

Post by: Seany on December 22, 2013, 04:28:08 PM
Loving the new update.  That F40 is a lot of fun (pop up head lights, yeah!).  A grid full of those is going to be quite some thing :). Drag racing etc is very nice too.  Anyone else see the dirt/dust build up on the cars now.  This just gets better and better.

Did you see that some guy mucked about with the files to get some race AI working?  Here is a vid:

I'm impressed.  The AI (even in this WIP stage) look pretty convincing.  See the way it makes a mistake and drops a wheel into the dirt and has to do some corrections to regain control.

Now we have the F40 I think I would like to see that JPS Formula 1 car and Spa, ( and multiplayer, obviously :) )

Well I loaded the tech demo and ran the lotus for apx 35 minutes, seems the frame rates won't get better than 42 with my gt220 (up it's old) on the plus side it's not causing any undue heat issues. It feels great to drive but a few video glitches are a pain. Those hydro lines @ Mag look like a flock of birds from the distance.

I've asked Santa for AC and failing that I'll buy it for myself. Can't wait to get my hands on the F40 and the little Fiat.

Ant

p.s. don't care to much for the control panel in AC, they could have done that better but it may be restricted in demo. Was a pain to figure out how to get the auto shift and auto clutch to shut off.

I know its not the finished article but I would enjoy having a temp manual to indicate  which keys do what and the icons used are not exactly clear on their functions.
It is a great sim however and look forward to the multiplayer.

I bought this too.

The track and car selection is disappointing still (for me). I'm mostly interested in the '80-90s M3s and the little Lotuses. I would love to see some more 60s tracks and cars...and pre war stuff (30s cars+tracks). Graphics are good, but the menus and settings are somewhat messy to follow. I don't know how realistic the physics are, but I noticed the rwd cars i tried were remarkably under steering (default settings). Although once you managed to get the rear end slide the "kick in" fb effect is really nice when the traction returned.

Hey, you should grab an LFS License too, if you have a G27 now. LFS will allow you to get maximum use from your new wheel.  Still some great racing to be had with this game online too.  There are a few of us racing on LFS most nights.
