Toby brought this game up for 2014/15 and along with Oldie we were discussing it on TS last night. It's a game I looked at a while back but never got around to pressing the button to add to the kickstarter funding, but am almost certain to be doing so in order to get into the Beta. This is a short video about why it should be a great game for the community: solo, PVP, economy, coop, this game has it all. Well worth a quick watch for a summary of this MASSIVEly exciting game - it's a podcast by a gamer, so it gives us the stuff we're interested in, not the stuff the developer wants us to see!

Go drool over the graphics and the ships available for the pre-launch pledge packages. The thought of a group of us flying a capital ship, running our own smuggling line between systems, providing protection/enforcement, exploring the galaxy and discovering (and getting to name) new star systems. Destination star system 'dMw'?
This game could be awesome!

Ludicrously ambitious. If they even get a small fraction of those features complete it will be one heck of a game.
I think they're about to pass $36m raised, each time they pass a new threshold they release more content to the game. Seems there is a huge following and interest for this game.
I'm very tempted to grab a package, probably the alpha, beta access one.

It's an impressive amount of dosh to raise through Kickstarter, but it's not actually very much by 'triple-A' standards - hence my cautious optimism :)
A guy I play DayZ SA (its out now btw. :yahoo: ) has shelled out 20.000 NOK on this and won't stop blabbering about it. Looks to me like LEGO EVE Online :P
I dumped my KS money into Elite Dangerous, probably for old times sake, which has just reached Alpha stage. Their devlog makes good viewing on YouTube for the scale they expect and their current progress.
Teaser (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QC3aHzVnlQ)
I didn't dump enough money in to get Alpha.
Just looking at the release dates of SC, looks like ED is going to have the jump on them by a long shot.
I am a fully payed up memeber to both through KS, I think the 2 are very very differnt fish, but looking for to both :)
I love the look of this so I'm in with a Freelancer :yahoo:
Has anyone else bought into any ships?
Perhaps we should start a list of who has what so we get a broad spectrum.
I have to say the Freelancer or 3001 appealed most to me.
I have the 300i, when you sign up there is a download of the hanger which you can run around and get in your ships etc it is very sexy looking!!!!
But thanks to TL I am eyeing up the Constellation
I'm only disappointed that this one is no longer available.

Hell, for that price I'd want the real thing
I'm always a little unhappy about buying my way into a game. I understand why the Devs are selling different specced ships but I still don't like the idea of a player just buying a kick ass ship right from the start. Their FAQ says they will be a subscription based game but that they will also allow micro payments, although everything you can buy can be earned in game. That's a little vague as in theory everything in BSGO that could be bought on a credit card could also be earned in game..... eventually! I know they're looking for funding so we're not just buying a game but supporting it's development. However £100+ is a bit rich for me so I'll probably go for the base ship or the 300i at a push.
Oh I hate you lot.
Fine, I'm in with an "Aurora LN". I'll earn anything else I get.
Smilo's post about requiring a subscription confused me, as there isn't a requirement for one, it's voluntary.
I'm going to hold fire until there's something I can actually play before stumping up cash.
If the Alpha looks fun, I might get on board.
AFAIK from the official FAQ and the unofficial wiki
$60 the game including single player and probably a dedicated server for the dMw if we want to 'do our own thing'
$?? Subscription to the MMO bit i.e on the official server
$?? Ability to make micro-transactions and buy some items which are always available in game via hard graft.
It's hard to say this early on if the dedicated server would work for us in a Minecraft or Arma sort of way i.e. co-op or if we jump into the big world with a squad as in BSGO, Star Trek Online, WOW etc.
I was also speaking to TL about setting up a Organsition with in the game. Which could be a good way to keep us all chatting if it gets picked up as well as these hallowed forums.

It is not live yet but I think we might want to when it does come online :)
Don't we have over a year before it's released? Assuming it doesn't slip.
This might just drag me back into gaming. :) pew pew
God this looks good.
Hey - been pointed here by a friend :)
I landed myself a Constellation - can't wait for the dog fighting release! Why must we wait for so long!
Yeah it does look fairly epic:)

Aye mate but PPP = PPP ;) and to be honest only a few games coming out in the future I am actually excited by :)

<< colour me jealous!
Been looking/drooling over the coop possibilities with that ship, it has huge potential for us to do the whole 'team' thing. I've been re-reading the ship pages and the forums for a couple of hours this afternoon (yeah, I should have been working ) and have very nearly pressed the button to buy but just can;t make up my mind which ship to buy in with! Decision *must* be made soon though and I'm happy to wait for the game as it seems to be developing so sweetly.
...and welcome to our community btw! Hope you like what you're seeing!

Glad you made it :) I'm not jealous much, maybe you'll let me joy ride it sometime.
Yea, enjoying it very much!
I have to be honest. I didn't buy it with rent money or anything like that, but I should most likely have spent my meager savings on something.... else :D. Its just the nostalgia from the Wing Commander series I think. Either way, i'll be buying my next computer with this game in mind (which with any luck will be in Jan should this working over Christmas thing work out!) we shall see!
Nah! You shouldn't be jealous! Welcome to have a lift in it any time! Just don't mess up the seats! Or the bunks! And don't forget to flush (you seen vids?)
As mentioned I've a personal preference for getting stuff in game so I may well go for a smaller starting ship, maybe a 300i or the Cutlass? Still feels odd spending money on (investing in) a game that while it sounds great might yet end up a watered down, micro transactions infested mess.

True dat. I guess I kinda believe in the guy. I'm most likely mad!
I'm sure they are completely genuine about their plans and I hope the game is everything they want it to be. I'm optimistic too so I'll pledge for a ship in the new year.

Must admit - really big selling point for me, too. Having to manage damage and repairs along with away-missions in space wrecks! Awesome!
I'm in, managed to trade for a Constellation with LTI.
Aww rats I'm now sporting a delicious looking 300i. I expect free lifts from the Constellation flyers.

Looking forward to it!
Downloaded the hangar and loved the pre-alpha look, very sexy.
Hanger looks nice although with a single seater I only get a basic hanger and my ship has no crew quarters etc. However I do get this...
Hmm, seems to be sufficient interest and 'investors' here to warrant a separate forum section to allow the build of content over time?

OK. Now i'm jealous! :P
Have you gone into your hangar to see the Constellation yet Galatoni? I took a walk around, then up the lift into the ship, found (and used) the sleeping quarters, tried out the Commander's chair for comfort and even took a peek inside the shower. Best experience though without a shadow of any doubt was the toilet. Yes, the seat lifts and yes you can sit down on it........ :roflmao:
QuoteYes, the seat lifts and yes you can sit down on it
$275 well spent ;)
My 300i has a couple of bunks but so far no sign of a head. I guess I'll just have to go in my spacesuit :vsorry:
I'm in. I went with the Avenger in the end due to the extra cargo capacity and longer insurance package over the 325a.

I have a while ago. Can't wait to actually fly the thing! Have you tried the turret seats? top and bottom? :) I'll leave that surprise for you. Seriously though, if anyone wants a virtual tour or anything we'll have to arrange a twitch or something.
Is it just me or is there no listing of ship speed.
I want in and am tossing up between a 300i and a Freelancer but it would be nice to have idea of the different speed the ships will go.
I'm in, got me a 315P (http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/315p)
At least I've got some time before I need to build a new rig.

I think you need to look at the Thrust Ratings (TR1 to TR10).
"Main thrusters are usually the most powerful ones on a ship. They are the ship's main means of propulsion. The ship's maximum velocity, range, and radar signature is directly affected by its main thrusters."
300i is TR4 (http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/300i)
Freelancer is TR5 x2 (http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Freelancer)
Not sure if that answers your question, other factors might apply.

ok, im in. I could only afford the aurora ln, so at least i get alpha and beta as well, in as sulky_uk

Dont worry mate as you can get every ship later in the game but it will take some time, but glad your on board mate
Thanks, that helped.
I guess it's the Freelancer for me then. Besides, I have to copy Oldie as I have no independent thought :)

Chris Roberts has said that he is keen to make the game as realistic as possible and as such the ships will have a complex physics system. The thruster levels give a good idea about the amount of power available but what's as important is the size of the ship the thruster is attached to. A battleship is going to have some serious horsepower but will probably move slowly compared to a fighter.
He's also mentioned that available power will be a factor as well. Each ship will have a certain amount of power that it can draw on. So the more power that a pilot sends to their engines the less there will be available for shields or guns etc. So two ships of similar size with the same power plant might travel at different speeds if one has equipped some heavy duty shields and the other hasn't. Ships will be very customizable, so what appears to be a fast5 fighter might in fact be slow but bomb proof and a more sluggish looking cargo ship might in fact fly like the wind.
That being said Chris Roberts has stated that the 300i series will be serious speed machines and the 350 probably one of the fastest ships in the game. The Freelancers are described more like HGV's. So they will be slower, less maneuverable but have more shields and gun points and a lot more cargo space.
I think we'd be best with a cross section of ships, so it's good that we're picking a range of ships rather than all flying the same thing. And of course there are still plenty of ships yet to be released and we should be able to buy them before game launch as well. How we end up agreeing on buying (in game) and flying the really bigger ships like the huge Bengal I'm not sure. There's still a long way to go before we need to worry about that. :)
Went with the 325A package :boxing:

Nice choice
does it fly?
No as yet. It just sits in the hanger. Roll on the dog flight module :-)
