Post by: Bastet on December 23, 2013, 04:01:24 PM
So, hello again guys, its been ages since i have posted anything on this forum, but i havent forgotten about it just yet :)

As i have seen that both Whitey and TL have started a EVE account lately, i figure its about time we get a list going of who is who. I will add my names in below, and if any of you are playing, and run into a question, please let me know and i will do my best to help you guys out. If anyone of you is intrested in trying you can also use this link (https://secure.eveonline.com/trial/?invc=380c6bbb-228a-4869-805a-d940af0ccbc1&action=buddy) for a 21 day trial account. For those of you already playing the game, feel free to join the channel Deadmen.

"TeaLeaf DeadMen"

And no, we don't want to get married, it was just a funny coincidence when we found out that we'd both picked the same last name, even down to the capitalised 'M'.

Petrina Uvera

Jump on TS and talk to us, we can cure your ills whilst you educate us in the ways of Eve.     It's a steep learning curve but seems fun and a great holiday time-sink for the expectation surrounding Star Citizen.

Eve isn't really my thing, a point and click space sim doesn't really work for me.

Eve has that risk factor though. Just love that rush of putting expensive stuff on the line in a fight :)

I've only just poked my head into production myself, and it's pretty cool. Nice way to earn some cash, and get those expensive mods on the cheap.

If anyone finds themselves wanting to move out of highsec and explore nullsec, I can put in a good word with my corp. We are currently callinge Delve our home, an Fire Star fit the dMw player base pretty well. Mostly old grumpy men being serious about internet space ships :p

Talked to TL about the clash of B-R5RB and what really happened instead of what mainstream media is reporting about it.

This is a link (http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/the-bloodbath-of-b-r5rb/?utm_source=ccp&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter97&utm_content=armageddon2) to the Developer blog reporting on that event.
And this is a link (http://themittani.com/features/largest-virtual-battle-ever) to an article written by an Eve online player created for people that don't play the game explaining the fight and how some mechanics work around it.

You not finding anyone to fly with? If you are even slightly into pvp and nullsec, I could get you a home in Firestar :)

Firestar just moved to Providence now and we started a new Alliance called Evictus. Looking for more playrers and member corps if people are looking for softer introduction to nullsec.

Anyone still following the politics of EVE?

Last week the Goons and CFC had a major event to test the new sov system. They set out to burn down the entire region of Providence (and holders) in a massive attack and leave the region open to contest.

They however didn't take into account the massive 3rd party effect such a huge announced attack would create. After a week, they failed at their objective, and many members of the CFC had to run back home to defend their own space from attack. I think there were few entities in EVE that did not somehow take part in some way.

I actually re-subbed my accounts and got to take part in defending as the underdog in the boarder systems around Provi. Having a 40 man fleet facing 200+ and making them rage was the most fun I've had in gaming in quite a while.

I find eve fascinating, but simply don't have the time to invest / don't wish to put absolutely all of my free time into it. Do like hearing about stuff like this though, its an interesting game / lifestyle.

I don't find it to be such a big time investment really. Depends on your playstyle I guess. But then I play it purely for the pvp action, and the thrill of the risk factor. I make enough from passive income and supplying nullsec with pvp-related items that I spend a minimal amount of time on what I find boring(read:grinding for cash). With the change to skill queues, you don't even have to log in regularly to change skill training. My queues are set for the next 300 days.

It also helps being in a corp/alliance that allows casual players. No real pressure to meet expectations or set alarm clocks for events. EVE is a sandbox. It is what you make it.

I love this stuff, even though I stopped playing a while back.

This why EVE is the most interesting MMO around.

Skill training queues was one of the reasons I gave up on EVE, it had the capability to take over your life as you watched the timers count down. :P

I think you are in a slightly different situation to most though Vargen, in that you have a lot already in that game and therefore the passive income argument works for you.  Sort of like i had in WoW, money was not an issue, the only difference between WoW and EVE in that respect is that I will never catch up the training skills of someone who has several years more time invested than I do, whereas I could level a toon to 100 in WoW and be on an even par with another top level toon in a couple of weeks.  And that was the second reason I gave up EVE.

I'm with Tut and Chaos though, the game is fascinating and I love to read about the politics and the combat.

Yeah, the skill system has both it's advantages and drawbacks. If you want to catch up to someone, you have to focus on 1 field. You can easily make a fresh frigate pilot and max out in 1 racial ship and weapon type in a matter of weeks. Where older characters will beat you there, is that they already have maxed out all 4 races and at the same time have enough skill points that they have industry and trade skills. You can still have a lot of fun with a low sp character, but your flexibility in ship type and role will be somewhat limited.

Take my main character for example. He can fly anything from Battleships and below from any race with any weapon system, but I still mostly fly 1 or 2 kinds of Interceptor frigates. Frigates make for more high paced game play, and let's you dictate the fight. If you pick one to train for, and specialize in that direction, you can easily match my skillpoints for that ship in under a month though.

You can also buy PLEX and sell it in game to boost your personal wallet up pretty quick, and even buy a character complete with the skills you want. But then you are over in the "pay to win" neighborhood. Even though the risk factor in the game seriously limit how shiny the ships in EVE are equipped.

I've left and rejoined EVE so many times now that I've lost count, but I love following the ever evolving politics and player generated content. Also whenever I decide I want to drop back in the game, it is quick to get back in it, without having to catch up on leveling or gear. Sure, they added a few ships since I last played, but I just picked 1 race and immediately started skilling up for that ship. After 3-4 weeks I can then jump in the new Tech 3 destroyer I chose and fly it as well as those that have been playing without stop.

EVE has become a sort of fall back when I get bored with other games, as it still is the only game that never fails to get my adrenaline going in PvP.

Here is a good article about the events.

http://crossingzebras.com/providence-skies-on-fire/

If you were wondering, Legion of xxDeathxx were assigned to burn down Evictus space. They only managed to reinforce two systems for one evening, but we took them both back before they managed to form up the following day. Guerrilla tactics and constant harassment made them pack their bags and give up, while we were laughing on comms and drinking beer.
