Drive at 5mph for half a mile to a car park.
Both passenger side tyres are flat and chewed up. It's dark I only have 1 spare wheel....
The car park I'm in happens to be a pub car park...
So today trying to sort some alloys and tyres out which is proving to be a pain for the year of the van... Sigh
Mind those potholes people!

"If you make your FOI request after you claim, the authority might refuse to supply the documents on the grounds that they are disclosable documents now. If this happens, you might need legal advice."
Quite a lot to it. You might also need to do a FOI request to find out when the road was last inspected - https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/
they'll just tell you to get lost. they did with me, even though I followed the guide to the letter. escc are useless.
That sucks Gandalf, perhaps it depends on how far you can be bothered to push it.
We had people suing local councils here and they won money.
It's not the UK, but our legal system was copied from the UK back in the day, so you never know..
As for those rims, try hammering them back into shape. Not the first time that happened to us and the tire repair guy put it back into shape in a couple of minutes - and for free.
I got Surrey CC to pay for my new tyre (rim not damaged)
How old were the tyres? They'll try to deduct an amount for wear and tear. For me, the tyre was relatively new

On Wednesday 3
rd August 2011 at 11.45am whilst parking outside {road location}, {town}, the front right hand wheel feel into the large pothole directly outside the shop which caused the wheel to rip against the manhole and tear a hole in the side wall.
The people in the shot heard the ‘pop’ and came outside to explain that they’ve asked Surrey CC to repair this large and dangerous hole but nothing has been done. They can witness it as necessary.
The tyre was new, having only covered under 2,000 miles. It was new in January 2011 and we only do 5,000 per year in that car. The Garage in the Crescent came and inspected the car and said the tyre was damaged and un-repairable. They ordered a new one and replaced it. They can also bear witness as necessary. I have the tyre evidence as needed to show the damage of the tyre and the fact it isn’t worn at all.
Obviously this is immensely irritating that this should happen when I’ve just spent out on new tyres.
Please find enclosed:
- Photos of the pothole and its location
- Photos of the damaged tyre
- All the relevant forms (V5, MOT, Service, tax disc, Tyre replacement in Jan 2011, new tyre invoice)
- Your claim form

Apparently the Council need to 'know' about the pothole and not have repaired it in order to have to pay out.

Good luck with the claim, as a new driver this is worrying
I try to avoid them but hard when going at speed, the roads in the UK are awful.
