Title: Recruiting
Post by: OldBloke on February 23, 2014, 12:21:06 PM
There's a section on the RSI forum where pilots looking for an Organisation can post stating what it is they're looking for in an Org. Having read a few it's obvious that there are some that, on the face of it, could be a good DMW fit.

There's also a section where Orgs can post information about themselves including as much detail about their structure, ethos etc. as possible.

It would make it much easier to recruit if we could point potential recruits from the former to the latter :)

So you know what's coming next ... :)

Can we quickly put together some words to act as an advertisement for our gaming community that presses the right buttons for potential recruits to not only Star Citizen but our other sections too?

I'm happy to help if needed and will start by listing some bullet points that could go towards the draft.

Thanks OB, I've not had time to put anything up yet, so the more help the merrier!   I'll bump up your rights on the RSI website so you can add stuff on the webpage too.

It may be worth mentioning that it isn't the goal but the journey to reach the goal that is important.
The hare may get the carrots but when the fox comes the tortoise has a shell.

Some cod-philosophy to start the week, enjoy.

A post has been made on the RSI forum detailing what we want to achieve in SC. It would help to bump it every few days (with a meaningful reply please - even if if it's a bit contrived :flirty: )

Iv'e been looking at some of the other Orgs. They all look like they bump their threads frequently and often just copying the previous message. It's going to be hard/inpossible to keep it close to the front.

Some Orgs have even been running competitions and gifting Ships as prizes. I'll take another look tonight and list some ideas we might want to try.

Just added Apocalypse (Reverb) to the org.   One of your contacts Toby (he's from down your way).

With the numbers we've got we've easily achieved critical mass for the sorts of things we want to achieve as an Org. As there is a real risk of being thwarted by a ne're-do-well (joining us and running off with our loot etc.) should we consider abandoning attempts to recruit strangers from within the RSI forums?

Might well be Oldie.   We might want to consider growth via another route, such as via an Alliance.   I have been looking at a few over the past couple of days and thinking that it might serve us well to start thinking about this to provide us with some collective protection and advantage.   We'd not necessarily need to grow ourselves (although more quality members is always good), but an alliance does give us a little more standing.

An example of an alliance might be ReddFaction:

I confess to being confused by this whole alliance thing. How does it work? Do all the orgs within the alliance agree to help each other trade, explore, fight etc. and, if so, how do you keep track of who you're allied to?

Not entirely certain atm, but usually there are some in-game recognition tools to help.   Basically if you are in an alliance you're not on your own when someone picks on you, it's kind of like the NATO arrangement, attack one member and you're attacking all and they'll all respond against you.   Defence is the primary goal, but it then spreads into collaboration on other missions, projects, blockades, escort duties, jump data, economy etc.

Sounds good to me. I take it we can opt out at any time so shall we go for it?

You can opt out whenever you want, it's a loose association with others, so it's subject to change whenever we want.

Isn't it a bit early to sign up to any alliance? Surely we should get in and then see how the lay of the galaxy is and if we need help then look at alliance. No problem with the reddit lot at all but like to see what we can do.

My 2 cents

I suggested thinking about it more in my OP not life membership! :P

A lot of Alliances will form and grow before game launch, so it can't damage us to have a good alliance now, if nothing else than for increased profile.  If we joined one then prior to launch (or even after launch) then we could resign from it if it no longer suited our needs.   Nothing locks us in, but going into an Alliance later might give us less voice than joining one at an earlier stage.

I was really looking for feedback on the idea.  Personally I see it as something that can only help not hurt us.  Seeking the input from others will give us an idea of what the group wants to accomplish.

Nice advert mate,  if the group thinks it is a good idea then I am with it, I just gave my feedback as requested. I do see the advantages, I just like to see how we stand alone. But as I say happy to go with the flow.

I agree with Toby, but there's plenty of time to 'suck it and see' once the game is actually running, any decent alliance will still accept us once the game is in full flow. We have over a year before this will even be an issue.

Of course it's not only mutual friendship that you get, but the possibility of becoming a target of mutual enemies. Redd Faction already seem to be losing some of the larger members who feel they don't need to be part of it now they are big enough. Although they seem to be relatively good natured resignations on the whole.

This is getting less "Firefly" and more Imperial Senate.

How will we be structured as an Org? Do we envisage running separate sections for Exploration, Bounty Hunting, Trading etc. each with it's own Section Admin? Or does the existing dMw gaming section model work?

I think as Lib just said, there's plenty of time to suck it and see, but I see no reason why the existing structure would not work, much as it did for our other successful MMO.   We'd need an overall leader and a council to support,  who operated jointly to set strategy and run the organization.   If we need additional granularity we can add in more ranks, much as we did for WoW for the second raid group.   Whether those main 'Council' members then individually headed up their own 'division' which each had it's own Robert Baratheon-style 'small council' specialising in eg Escort Operation, we'd need to wait and see.   Initially I don't think we'll be big enough to warrant the overhead of a more complex structure, so a simple Game Leader with a group of Game Admins to take on the oversight of the game within dMw.

All interested parties should send applications & CVs to Toby........ :getmecoat:

What ugh ahhhh ummmm mother.

More than happy to help with selection but I must take my hat out of the ring and set it on fire. Then take the ashes and shoot it out into space.

Arma and LAN are enough for me. We all saw what happened last time ☺😉.

But must say that I feel OB is missing the lime light I look forward to his application 😈😁

Well, it worked for me.

I think the org size as it is fits me just fine.  If it grows, that's good too but right now it's just about big enough to make sure there's always a group of people you know to play online with, rather than just one or two.
