Title: more monitor woes
Post by: Stryker on October 02, 2002, 03:16:01 PM
I've got two 17" monitors, brands never heard of.

Recently the "RED" cathode on the one I used on the games machine died.  So I moved t'other 17" to the games machine.

Problem.  On the game machine the alternative monitor is TOO dark.  Desktop, CS u name it.  On the g400 drivers I had to turn the gamma right up just to see... problem is the game (cs) is now unatrully bright (cant see cross hairs on dust, flashbangs blind me for 30+ seconds!).

I've let the pc redetect the new monitor to no evail.

I always thought a monitor was a monitor till all this happened.

Any ideas peeps?

:?: You checked for drivers for the monitor? I've got a 19" TAXAN and it came with it's own drivers.
Also with my video card there is a setup proggie that allows me to set various stuff like screen brightness and gamma and colour balance and refresh rate and .....................
Otherwise might be worth trying some welding goggles

I take it you 'whacked' the one where the red dropped out. This is a good cure as it's usually only a 'dodgy' connection.

We had a few here that would turn green, a sharp thwack would sort them!

I thrashed it to within an inch of it's life (and the table edge).... still the stubborn little fkr refuses to show red.

The picture rolled a lot tho :-)

I subscribe to Novatech newsletter. They are in Portsmouth. They are currently selling 19" monitors for £99 + vat. Don't know if the monitors are any good (1600x1200 flicker free @ .26 dotpitch) but I've used Novatech a lot and not had any probs (even with the occasional return).

The offer is at http://www2.novatech.co.uk/novatech/SpecPage/NOV-1926G (http://www2.novatech.co.uk/novatech/SpecPage/NOV-1926G)

Staples are doing 19" Medion monitors for £120 at the moment.

Medion are supposed to be pretty good, m8 of mine bought a complete system about 18months ago and hasn't had any trouble with it so I guess there ok.

It's the same with any mass produced electronics though, stricly pot luck :)

Thats STAPLES office products for the uninitiated, bit like Office World but cheaper  :)
