Post by: TeaLeaf on April 07, 2014, 07:53:19 AM
dMw are please to confirm the dates for our 2014 autumn LAN party, so book some time off and buy your flight tickets!

16th - 19th October 2014

As usual the autumn LAN will also combine with a social meet for some of the game sections, so it should be well-attended!

More details to follow once Ninja & Toby have completed their usual post-LAN therapy sessions!

I'm in with my shiny new gaming laptop :yahoo: so just the server and the racing box to lug this time.

Hope to get a few East Anglian 'Star Citizens' to pop their heads in too over the weekend. We will be well into the Dog Fighting Module by then and maybe even some FPS planet-side stuff too.

In other news ... Now less than 2,500 Alpha slots left. Just saying :flirty:

2,244 alpha slots left now and going fast.   The DFM seems to be having an effect on potential Star Citizen fans!

@GhostMjr - the word is 'MSI' with a GTX880M. :dribble:

Yes we need to reduce the weight of all the other systems in the room so Lionheart's case doesn't become the center of a sinkhole.

Please just hang fire for a moment.

There's a lot of background negotiations/discussions with the hotel needed for every LAN. The excellent combination of the BroNinj will advise forthwith

I'm guessing this is the same spot as usual, but could we have some info in the OP about the hotel and so on? I should be good to attend this year :)

It's at the same hotel as usual, but it's over to Ninja & Toby as to when to open the booking thread and allow rooms to be booked etc.

Awesome. Is Stansted Airport on the way for someone? It seems the cheapest tickets for me would be to go there.
Title: LAN XXVI dates
Post by: Penfold on July 15, 2014, 09:22:05 AM
As always we will endeavour to pick up as many people as we can en route but it does depend on timings.

Worse case though is that Stansted is the nearest airport to March and does have a quick direct train should that be necessary -taking one hour and only three stops.

for example http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/timesandfares/SSD/MCH/today/0908/dep

Normally though I think we normally get everyone picked up. IIRC Hal caught the train once and I picked him up from March railway station

If someone is coming to Luton airport I could drive you if petrol is paid :)

Post by: Tutonic on July 15, 2014, 10:02:09 AM
Stansted is the closest (and probably cheapest) airport to fly to. As Pen says, from there you can grab a train to March (or Cambridge and Ely) where we can arrange a pickup.

I'm close to Stansted, so can do a pickup if needed - there will be a dedicated thread for this once Toby & Ninja open up the LAN for bookings, so I suggest you hold fire until then :)

I know many international members make it to the UK LAN and are successfully picked up by domestic members - and I'm sure that we'll work hard to make sure everyone is covered again for this LAN.

I personally take the view that any LAN attendee who has stumped up the cash to buy a flight (in addition to the normal LAN costs) has done enough to be offered a free lift to the hotel as I'm grateful that they're making the effort to attend and improve the quality of the event for everyone.   If they happen to buy me a pint to say thank you, or gift me a bottle of their local firewater etc, then that's a lovely bonus but it's neither an expectation nor condition of them getting a lift from me.

Forgot to add, being based in Milton Keynes I'm actually a lot closer to Luton, but I tend to do the Heathrow run and pick up a certain group of Norwegian renegades!   Quick stop for fish'n'chips in Watford and then onwards to the hotel.

You've definitely picked me up there once, though I've also walked from the station to the hotel with my stuff before ... that bit of march is eerily quiet and dark!

The drive from airport to the hotel is always great :) never had a problem (yet)! If you are driving with Pen you should know a Mc Donalds pitstop is advised so he can have his Mc Breakfast :P

I have to admit, that's one of my rituals as well. It's the only thing I ever eat from there and only when I'm on a long early drive. But I have a tea from home in the car.

I dont really understand why you have the bring stuff like this up ( Again ) Duvel. It has been a year and everyone moved on. This was the problem last year that you cant let things go!
But if things bother you this mutch you might be happy that most people you had problems with in the past are probably not going anyway, so you can have fun at the lan. which ever one you decide to go to :)

I do have to agree.

To say that people didn't get your side of the story is just plain wrong and does a disservice to those of us who spent a 'fun' few hours resolving it.

We handled it at the time and we handled it after the LAN. It's been in bed ever since and I'm not prepared to let it flare up.

If you're not going to let it go then perhaps it's a good thing you're not coming to the LAN. Either way, the the community is not going to accept any more behaviour from people who are too immature to handle their drink..... that goes to several people who know who they are and have been warned.

Not only will they be banned from future LANs but also from the Community.

Now. Onwards and upwards please.

Why bring that up in this thread Duvel?

If you don't fancy attending, that's your choice, but your reason isn't relevant to this thread. If you have an issue with the way things were handled, take it up with those involved in private.
