Title: A new kind of torture
Post by: Karrde on April 18, 2014, 11:00:52 AM
I've had a dream...

Which means I'm back playing Minecraft cos it's always the new obsessions that drives me. Although I still haven't finished that climbing wall...

It'll be the normal stupidly big, stupidly dangerous, stupidly difficult death game affair. Looking at the blue prints so far it'll be about 12 levels of torture with a about 3,000 blocks a level.

Now thinking ahead, I don't want the kids to end up trapped for 3 hours, so was thinking. I'll obviously have a safe room at the start and probably one every three levels or so. The problem is that once saved you are then trapped n the middle. Is it possible that if I mark some blocks in each safe room as exit, an admin can set them as teleports back to the safe room outside? It's a simple easy thing to do and works very well. This means at worst if the kids need to leave the maze they can die, respawn in the last safe point and then teleport out.

Thoughts?

portal in each room back to nether with a tunnel to a portal that leads to one outside the area

That would mean 1,024 blocks distance minimum between safe zone and the maze.

That means every time someone dies at the start they have to run that far with no items. Won't someone think of the children!

if its a tunnel in the nether that is sealed it aint an issue, and you can have portals very close together as long as you have built the other end

Aye but the overworld one will have to be 1,024 from the maze so that people can use the portal which means a long trip. It's fine I was trying to save you guys rescuing people.

The end and spawn portal in the real world are way closer than that I'm sure of it

No its got to be a minimum of 1,024 distance in overworld and 128 in underword - it's the 8 times distance factor.

If I set up portals inside the maze they will go to the same nether portal - that's fine. To take them somewhere else it will have to be 1,024 distance away overland.

I could set that up but then you'd need a safe transport to take them back the 1,024 to the maze start each death between start and first save point.

I'd send you my spreadsheet with the stuff on but it has all my secrets...

I would prefer that we don't have portals that close together to be honest if possible, I'm not entirely sure how the teleportation works but I'll read up on it.  I'm away most of today and don't have access to a pc but I'm sure we can work something out.

ROFL. SWMBO told me she had a very pleasant quiet three hours the last time you trapped them in your fiendish little maze.
