Star Citizen Patch 12

RELEASE NOTES â€" Arena Commander V0.8

WARNING: This version of Arena Commander will delete your Hangar’s “USER” folder. If you have stored screenshots or other information, please move them before patching.

IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to take off in the dogfighting module, you must pick up the HELMET located on a pedestal in your Hangar. Once you have picked up the helmet, enter an AC ELIGIBLE SHIP (F7C Hornet, Aurora or 300i) to take off. Note that if you have additional versions of each eligible ship (ie, two 300is) only one of them will allow you access to Arena Commander.

HORNET PILOT’S NOTE: Please be aware that the Gatling guns on your Hornet can overheat and explode! Be careful with the trigger to ensure you don’t lose your weapons while in flight.

Known Issues
GLOBAL
No way to easily distinguish dogfighting eligible ships from ineligible ones.
There are multiple issues with the persistence system that can cause ship loadouts to not appear and bugs with the helmet in the hangar. Easy workaround for most issues is to delete your “USER” folder inside the game client.
Having multiple input devices connected (I.E. Joystick + Gamepad) will cause conflicts between the throttle settings when certain actions are performed like changing flight modes or receiving damage with hit impulses
Hangar â€" Art â€" X55 debug text appears in key bindings menu
Some combinations of computer hardware can sometimes experience graphical glitches and artifacts.
Ship collisions with environmental objects needs tuning and refinement for proper damage attribution.
All Maps â€" Gameplay / Weapons â€" The flare countermeasure doesn’t always cause missiles to miss and follow it
Player cockpit animations and enter/exit animations still need some improvements
Infrequent crashes still occur during gameplay in special circumstances and after extended periods of play
Issues with scoreboard display when awaiting respawn or in 3rd person perspective.
Radar and signature system still needs improvement for occlusion handling and a balance pass to increase the variability of radar effectiveness.
When ejecting from the ship after the character pulls the ejection handle he tposes for a few frames before ejecting
When ejecting at high speeds you go into the cockpit a little bit before impulsing up
Particle effect remains indefinitely after gatling gun is destroyed
Some users are reporting a bypassable “No Disk in Drive” error when updating
Render thread spikes could cause performance issues
Bitching Betty may announce ‘system overheating’ at incorrect times
Missing chair whilst the player is ejecting in first person view
Camera transitions between the three animation states of ejection have large glitching issues.
Some foot IK animation errors when walking inside Constellation
Camera spins wildly when third person is activated after ejecting
On the Aurora the fixed weapon aiming reticule turns green when pointing directly at the target or behind the target’s direction
Blacking out can happen too easily sometimes
Buggy can sometimes slide around and flip over
Buggy can sometimes not accelerate unless turbo is applied (Shift)
Badger Repeater weapon geometry becomes offset when fired from the firing range
Near impossible to navigate Arena Commander UI using Oculus Rift
Some users can experience an issue of falling through the elevator floor when using lower spec machines
The Outfit Changer has been temporarily disabled
Clicking the launch button on the Arena Commander UI multiple times can cause undesired behavior

VANDUUL SWARM
All Maps â€" Vanduul Swarm â€" Gameplay â€" If pausing as the game loads into the level, the player will be left on a black screen indefinitely
All Ships â€" Vanduul Swarm / DFM_Survival â€" Art â€" There is a green, occasionally graphically corrupt, bar present when the player kills an enemy
Vanduul Swarm / DFM_Survival â€" AI â€" The Ai controlled wingmen are too quickly overheating their own Gatling guns to the point of destroying them
Dying Star â€" Vanduul Swarm â€" Gameplay â€" Wave 7 didn’t spawn in during Vanduul Swarm (only once)
No HUD element to show remaining lives

Yeah, I read that is a confirmed bug. Not sure what is happening, if they know how to fix it or not.

Word is that they forgot to put the "maps" in the download files. Patch is coming....

Wording from Web site:
ALERT: We are aware of a widespread issue in which the game locks between the Hangar and Arena Commander. We are working the issue and will publish a patch as quickly as possible.

UPDATE (12:58 PM PST): The cause of the lock up has been identified: several necessary map files were not correctly served to end users via the CDN. The team is working on a solution now!

In! Looks very nice. getting used to the controls. Flying into a lot of stuff, getting shot by a lot of stuff. Seen a few bugs the most obvious of which is my hands don't hold the wheel when I respawn. Still looks very very nice, I'm enjoying just flying about as much as I am fighting stuff.

This one's a loaner, I'll have the 4 cannons when we get our full classes.

Good thing is, the guns do track the targeting crosshairs on restricted mounts.

The first few waves of Vanduul are fairly easy to kill, but I never see the harder enemies as I tend to crash into stuff with annoying regularity. Must watch where I'm going....

Managed to get to wave 5 of the vanduul swarm by which time I had no thrusters, 1 wing and sparkly things shooting out the cockpit. Had to wait for the inevitable to respawn but wow, for pre-alpha, very impressed, very good fun indeed.

Had the odd crash, which was expected of course and not all my key mappings did what they said they should do but again expected hiccups. But it is playable and oh.....extremely pretty :D

I'm slightly feeling like I'm chasing a dot with my mouse, but to be honest if I actually look to my target and watch my incoming fire, I do seem to hit more things more often. Also if you try to play arcade mode and simply chase your target with a stream of fire/laser bolts etc you'll over heat your guns and end up a toothless sitting duck. I'm getting used to firing on my target when I'm actually likely to hit it and bumping my shields when something is on my tail. Quite tactical and yes very pretty. First game to send my CPU beyond 50% load as well.

The learning curve, for me anyway, is....steep! Control is haphazard to say the least! For me, one of the first things to sort out will be the joysticks  etc. Looks great. Could go far.

Did anyone else have connection problems? To be expected I guess.

Agree on the steep learning curve, it would seem I am a useless pilot :narnar:
I had 3 or 4 connection errors when loading the hangar, it would drop me in the hangar then show the connection error but after the first couple of attempts it went fine.

My download finished sometime overnight but the launcher is sitting on "PLEASE WAIT".  Does anyone know how long this wait should take?

Edit:  Found post on reddit saying to restart the launcher and I have but now I'm getting the Connection errors. Hope to get a short play before work. :D

Edit2:  I find the mouse/keyboard pretty much unplayable with the default settings.  More testing needed tonight :)

I did the close launcher, restart and it fixed it for me.   I then got the Connection error too, but I am assuming their servers are down so will try to connect later when I get back from my meeting.

I had the same problem but finally managed a free flight. Since then 6.30am I've been trying to d'load the pilots manual without success. Does anybody have another source for this manual?
I'm very pleased with the graphics and the 'feel' of the game, but quite disconcerted in the difference between joystick control and mouse control, hence the desire to RTFM.

On my first couple of attempts I couldnt work out how to leave the hangar, turns out all I had to do was wear my helmet to actually start the Arena Commander.

Luckly I had read that you needed the helmet, but my 6 year old was trying it out this morning and walk around the hanger. Meant I got into the wrong ship so I couldn't start the AC. Took me 10 minutes to realise. :)

I assume that as well as the base ships your hanger will also contain the ship you purchased, so I must have sat in my 315p and not the 300i.

I'm seeing my red 325i and a new grey 300i. I can dog fight with the 300i but am not allowed to fly my 325i yet. So you should still have your 350i speed machine in there as well.

The default mouse sensitivity was really low and when I bumped it up things started to click into place.  Just finished a 30 minute swarm that ended in a crash to windows but I can't believe how good this is at this stage of development

Is there any way to invert the controls? Tried flying with a mouse, and that is just no doable. Horrible actually. You either go too far or not fast enough. Better dig up my old joystick, or maybe buy a gamepad or something. Pretty cool so far though. Feels much more like a SIM than I had imagined acutally. So pilot skill will matter a lot in the end I assume.

Correct...but. They are preselected game controllers/joysticks. If you don't have what is available you're sunk. They need for the game to scan your PC for all input devices, not just the one they see fit.

Star Citizen will fail! :lmfao:

Wasn't too keen on the mouse myself although I liked the precise aiming on gimbal mounted weapons. Overall though I'm finding a 360 gamepad much better, only thing I'd like to do is remap the 2nd analog stick from look to strafe. I did try a combination of both - flying with the gamepad and aiming with the mouse - seemed like it could work except that moving the gamepad stick centres the targeting reticule every time. If they changed that it might be workable, although there are still so many other controls you need to be able to reach...

It seems I was missing a folder in CitizenClient\Data. There was no controller info at all. Repair didn't want to know, it just sat there like a lemon. So I removed the CitizenClient folder and downloaded again. The speed is a damned sight quicker than it was last night! I'm getting 7mb/s as opposed to 1.5-2mb/s

We shall see if I have any control. Before I just went round in circles!

EDIT: It said 3 patches. Two patches were downloaded and installed. It gave up the ghost on the third patch! Result, no change to the original download. I'll try uninstalling the lot and start again.

You know the feeling when you just want to DRINK! :rolleyes:

The mapping is very alpha at the moment and they have stated it will be improved, so I'd expect that nearer beta or release we'll see much a much wider range of mappings, more flexibility to change the mappings and generally more options for us to edit.

I got the hang of flying with the mouse after a while. I managed to invert it in the hangar, but not in the flight, which is the opposite of what I wanted :rolleyes:

Just from trying it out while having a chat on TS last night I got to wave 7 before my ship became pretty fireworks. Very impressed so far, and this is just the Alpha!

I'm using my sidewinder 2 joystick and it seems to be working quite well.

It will be great when we can configure it or it is set up to support the hardware. I've figured out the 3rd person view, after-burner, target identification (including cycling through targets). To be honest there's so much going on in game I'm OK with having to aim down the middle and not fuss around with the mouse. I tried the joypad for about 30 seconds but it was too sensitive.

At first it was making me ill as the graphics are so good. Much better now.
Throttle response is realistic but also crucial to have that control when enemies are close. It is definitely not all-on or all-off
I like the shields being taken off line and then regenerating
Damage system seems to be working well.

All in all it's quite good fun and I'm enjoying my 300i. How the hell do I upgrade some of the weapons??

Also, how do I get online? Do I have to go through all the swarms? I did manage to get to level five on one of them.

I must not buy more ships.. I must not buy more ships... I must find a way to buy another ship without my Mrs finding out!!   "you paid £40 for a spaceship in a game that isn't even out yet??!!"

The multi player roll-out is being staged and they're adding more players as they ramp up the servers etc. We'll get access to the multi player game based on how early we backed the game. So Brother Toby should be one of the first to get in.

I tried joystick this morning for the first time and irrespective of any discussion about control mechanisms, I actually found I enjoyed the joystick version far more and was actual more successful than I was with keyboard+mouse.     Tracking a ship with a joystick is far easier imo than with kb+mouse, aiming might be harder but actually I thought it balanced quite well.

Joystick all the way for me from now on for AC.    HOTAS will have to wait and see.

I actually read somewhere that joysticks get some auto-targeting/tracking on gimbaled weapons.

They might well have in order to create some balanace.   I'm sure that they way we have it at the moment will be tweaked by launch time, but it sure is fun!

I thought the same when I tried joypad after kb+mouse. I think the way the gimbaled weapons automatically track just now levels the playing field nicely.

I backed SC Oct 18, 2012 and no multi-player either. One rumour I've seen is that there is a private forum for the 1st 1000 backers. I'm #40214 so backed SC quiet early but maybe not early enough :)
Currently sort of enjoying drones @15fps low with red dots so MP can wait until my new parts arrive.

From memory is was Lifetime Hull Insurance with the promise of Alpha access, and one or the other would no longer be available when the website re-launched?

Lifetime insurance I think? Which reminds me, is that only on the ship that's in that particular game package? Probably worth upgrading to something better than an Aurora if it is...

Only hull insurance. Load outs, cargo are not insured I think.
Also, I believe the in-game insurance to buy I think is time limited, so no matter how much you die, you always get your hull back. So it's not that much of a game changer, just a little help to get you rolling without fear of being really ship-less.

I have a 300i and no plans to change it right now as it's a fairly significant outlay to upgrade it to the Hornet which iirc is the only hull I could change it to. Hmmmm, I wonder if I could move it to the 325 variant cheaply though?

The star citizen informer app tells me I am #350393 though my laptop gpu is too slow right now for the alpha anyway. It's really hard to hold off upgrading but I know the money will go further if I wait until next year... That's what I keep telling myself at any rate!

How long before I give in, get the cross-chassis upgrade from Aurora to 300i and then upgrade to 325a... :(

The default lasers on the Aurora are some real weak sauce.
