In a recent thunderstorm a seemingly 'right over my head ' lightning strike fried the deskphone that I use for my business line, so I am now looking at switching it out for a VOIP phone and moving to a VOIP provider.
My intention would be to migrate my current 'business' BT telephone number to the VOIP provider (should cost circa £20).
the VOIP would be delivered to my VOIP phone over my current fibre connection which supplies both my home phone and my internet
Buy a VOIP deskphone to replace my ageing and now dead BT deskphone and plug it into my home network
Use something like Zoiper to route my VOIP calls to my mobile when I am out (using my mobile phone's data connection)
Upload a csv of my contacts database to my VOIP phone for maximum caller recognition.
I'll probably trial the service via a softphone, but then transition to the VOIP deskphone when I am happy the service is working
I have been looking at which VOIP provider to use and wondered if anyone had any experience with providers that might suit the 'home office' market.
VOIPfone (https://www.voipfone.co.uk) seems to have a reasonably good rep.
Anyone got any experience of other providers or want ot make a recommendation for a good one please?
As you are with BT already dont they have a BT Voip systems for small business, might be able to add it to your pacakge you have? Just a idea had no dealing with them at all.
Quick, web searching says steer clear of BT for VOIP. I also have the slight problem that their business charges far exceed the residential cost I currently pay for the second line, so a different alternative might be best!
Fair enough just thought it might of been eaiser if all in one place but if customers say steer clear, I would go with that crowd

You're planning to use SIP right?
No idea what SIP is, other than I can have as many SIP trunks as I want within the VOIPfone offering.
SIP = Session Initiation Protocol. Basically think of SIP trunks as individual lines, so if you have 4 SIP trunks then you can take or make four calls at a time.
I've used Skype for work for years at 20 quid a quarter for unlimited world wide land line calls, 3 number in 3 countries and video multiway.
Good for getting your calls to your 4G mobile and home. No need for SIP trunks, or any other Jazz just a straight IP line.
