Scawen is apparently alive and kicking.
Version 0.6F is coming (faints):yahoo::yahoo:
https://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=85930
I've been following this on their forum and while the LFS community has been waiting five years for the promised Scirocco/Rockingham/Tyre physics, Scawen preferred to make LFS support the Oculus Rift. Pfft.
The irony, for me, is that in the past there were loads of hosts (us included) who always had the latest test patch installed so we could help the developers with any issues etc. Now it appears that Scawen has to actively ask people to try the patch. A direct result of ignoring the needs of a once vibrant and excited community.
When the new version is released I will make sure it's on our server as soon as possible. Enjoy the anti-aliased mirrors :flirty:
Installed and tested it on the server, it's compatible so download away :thumb:
The 3D works ok but is half resolution using LFS settings. As it's now DX9, it works with my tellys 3D rendering software and it looks way better using this method instead.
I'll not be buying a Oculus Rift headset, it's old tech already.

But note, what's available now is the test patch (6E series). 6F is due to be released this weekend. The server will be updated to 6F once it's released.
Note that because it is a test patch you need to download it from the forum. You cannot use the autoupdater from the ingame server list.
To me this is not giving anything. I already had gfx maxed and not having fps issues. Not having nor intending to have oculus rift. The only visible change is that some car rims have some small gfx issues when turning the car in the carage view. Looks like z-fighting to me (tiny areas having waving patterns).
The full 0.6F patch is due this afternoon sometime. As soon as I spot it I'll update the server.

NEW Westhill tracks soon :D and maybe fixed the stupid overheating tyres.
Patch F is in the autoupdater. Probably just like E19.

NEW Westfield tracks soon :D and maybe fixed the stupid overheating tyres.
West
hill :P and....
abused tyres will always overheat, no matter the physics
Track update looks pretty different, that evil tyre chicane looks much slower now, will be interesting to see.

And, of course, there's a problem.
Scawen has only released the DCON (console) version of the dedicated server. This means all the work done today by Whitey is broken and we may have problems getting Airio to work. I'm currently on TS if anyone wants more info.

Thanks for the update oldie. No panic though! We normally race over at the Dominant Monkeys server at the Weekend.

Think it's sorted. Server is up but needs testing if anyone's about.
Thanks Oldie, everything seems to work A.O.K.
Reconfigured combo to FXO@SO1 and everything, including Airio was fine.
Thanks again.:D
Cheers Oldie :thumb:
Another update report from Scawen and looking like another test patch next week :)

Sorry to double post but didn't think it was worth starting a new thread.
Eric has posted on the forum regarding track design, odd enough to see Eric actually post but I found this interesting :
Quote from: Eric;1863976As a side note, I have no idea how the revised Westhill will drive with the old tyre physics that you guys are using. I’ve been testing with the new tyre physics for a few years now and I refuse to drive the old one, which has just doesn’t have that visceral tyre feel and response compared to the new tyre physics.

How long do we have to wait?
Good to seem him posting, hopefully the forum trolls can control themselves this time :)
Quote from: EricBefore The release of S2 and GTRs, I was working with S1 tyre physics which had very little grip before Scawen improved on it. The classic case is Westhill which was challenging with the old Pre-S2 tyre code but just became a flat-out drive with the current physics. My fault, partly for not thinking ahead design wise and not having the experience. Anyway, I’ve addressed most of the design issues I’ve had with Westhill, so hopefully no-one will fall asleep at the wheel this time.
Interesting the way he thinks (Scawen too probably) that Westhill is too boring. I don't think every track has to be twisty and not flat out to be fun. If that was the case the UF1 @ Westhill should be a snooze fest...but we all know it's far from that. :)
Agree Seany, I quite like the idea someone else posted about keeping "Westhill classic" as a separate track to the new one, as you say with cars like the uf1 it is a great track for close racing.
Either way it's good to see the Devs back active in the forums and what looks like very promising news :)
Hard to say how the new Westhill is compared to the old one if not driven the new one yet. I have to say I have always considered WE1 to be most fun with cars like XFG and XRG. With faster cars the good overtaking places seem to disappear and car tuning seem to be harder than e.g KY or AS tracks.
Nice to hear they have been driving with the new physics for years and wouldn't change back :sideways:
